Ethan Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I have results from a 1-D radial simulation of CO2 injection into a brine reservoir. The radial grid extends from 0.1m to 1e5m (or 100km) with 500 grid cells and a growth factor of (f = 1.02). The pressure perturbation resulting from injection only propagates 50km over the course of a 50-year simulation while the CO2 plume only propagates 2.5km in the same time. When I look at the data using the Line Plot viewer, I am limiting the x-range to focus on the regions of change (i.e. x = 0.1 to 3000m) and it appears that the line plots are discretized at 500m intervals rather than with respect to the grid resolution in this portion of the reservoir. Because of the growth factor I am using, 75% of the grid cells are within roughly a 5km radial distance from the injection point - I would expect the data resolution to be very high in the region. Why is the data limited to 500m intervals? Is it related to the x-range (i.e. 100km) compared to the number of grid cells in the radial direction? I have included a sample of the exported CO2 saturation data at the end of the 50-year simulation - you can see that there are only 5 data points between x = 0.1m and x = 2500m when there should be several hundred data points: Dist (A- | SG 0000.000000 | 0.991954 0502.512060 | 0.469778 1005.024121 | 0.390516 1507.536181 | 0.340709 2010.048241 | 0.299952 2512.560302 | 0 3015.072362 | 0 3517.584422 | 0 4020.096482 | 0 4522.608543 | 0 5025.120603 | 0 Also, just as a suggestion, it would be very convenient if the Line Plot viewer had the options to view the data with log-log and semi-log axes in addition to linear scales - particularly when viewing pressure data. Thanks for any help you can provide on this topic. Ethan
Charlie Thornton Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Thank you for your suggestion about scales. I've added a note to our issue tracker. The line plots always use 200 evenly-spaced sample points. The increased resolution of the grid in an area will make those samples more accurate, but it will not increase the frequency of the samples. I agree it would be a lot nicer if the data points on the line plots matched the resolution of the underlying grid. - Charlie
