(140) New Feature (11/13/08/JPR): Any open application menus are now listed within the Windows taskbar as small green rock hammers superimposed on a menu.
(139) New Feature (11/12/08/JPR): The Window / Tile option will now tile any open application menus. The following example shows 11 application menus tiled onto a 3-monitor desktop.
(138) New Feature (11/12/08/JPR): Currently active instances of the new application menus are now listed within the main Windows menu. Clicking on any of these items will bring the associated menu to the forefront of the display. This capability is useful whenever a menu is "lost" (i.e. hidden below another menu).
(137) New Feature (11/12/08/JPR): A new option titled "Embed Results" has been added to the Secondary Menu options within the Tools / General Preferences menu.
This new settings determine where the results of a given operations will be displayed.
Embed Results Within Dialog: If this option (the default) is selected;
Two-dimensional diagrams will be displayed within a tab that is embedded within the current application dialog. Subsequent re-plots of the diagram will replace the previous diagram with the new diagram.
Textual reports will be displayed within a tab that is embedded within the current application dialog. Subsequent re-computations of the report will replace the previous version of the report with the new report.
Do Not Embed Results Within Dialog:
Two-dimensional diagrams will be displayed in a new instance of the RockPlot/2D program. Subsequent re-plots of the diagram will create new instances of the RockPlot/2D program without erasing previous version.
Textual reports will be displayed in a new instance of whatever program has been assigned (by Windows) to text files. Subsequent re-computations of the report will create new instances of the report without erasing previous versions. The default text editor within Windows is the NotePad program.
(136) New Feature (11/11/08/JPR): A new option titled "Modality" has been added to the Secondary Menu options within the Tools / General Preferences menu.
This new setting determines how the new menus (see below) will behave;
Modal: Once a menu is active, nothing else within RockWorks is available. For example, you cannot minimize the menu and edit the Utilities datasheet or modify the Borehole Manager data. Other menu items cannot be selected. The menu must be closed in order to select a new menu or modify the data. This is the "safe", default configuration.
Non-Modal: This option allows you to have multiple menus open at any given time. You can also modify the data within the Utilities datasheet and the Borehole Manager while the menu is open. The downside is that many of the menus share variables. As a consequence, unpredictable behavior may occur if the multiple instances of the same program are being run at the same time. For example, if you run two copies of the EZ-Map program at the same time, a change in the settings within one instance will not be reflected within the menu for the other instance. The output (e.g. the map), will be based on whatever menu setting was last changed.
To make the Non-Modal operations more palatable, a new option (and associated speed button) titled "Refresh" has been added to the menu under the View option.
The Refresh option will reload the menu settings so that more recent changes made to another instance of a menu will be reflected within the current menu.
The primary advantage of Non-Modal operations is that is provides the user with a means to manage multiple applications simultaneously. The following screen-shots are from a 4-monitor system (yes, it's a geek thing) at the RockWare office.
Notice the main RockWorks menu at the center of the multi-screen display (above).
Note that this is not the same as simply displaying multiple instances of the RockPlot/2D program. Each of these dialogs represent separate programs, meaning that the output may be modified by changing the menu settings within the menu to the left of each diagram and pressing the "Continue" button.
(134) Improvement (11/09/08/JPR): The options menu and display windows within the Utilities / Stats / Point Distances program have been combined into a single dialog. This eliminates the tedious process of creating a diagram and then re-loading the options menu in order to change things.

(22) New Feature (10/18/08/JPR): The profiling programs (listed below) now include a suite of options for plotting the index map as either a "stand-alone" diagram or appending the diagram to the profile(s). This new capability is very similar to a similar feature that was added to the sectioning programs (see item below) except that this version has the capability of adding individual diagrams when creating multiple, parallel profiles.
Note: Embedding section-location index maps within diagrams that will be vertically exaggerated is not advisable. If you wish to combine a section location map with a cross-section, generate the cross-section and the index-map separately and combine them with the ReportWorks program.
(21) New Feature (10/17/08/JPR): The sectioning programs (listed below) now include a suite of options for plotting the index map as either a "stand-alone" diagram or appending the diagram to the section.
This new capability allows the user to plot the index map either to the left, right, above, or below the section.
The index map "Size" parameter is defined as follows;
If the map is being plotted above or below the section, a size of 100% will be translated to 100% of the section width.
If the map is being plotted to the left or the right of the section, a size of 100% will be translated to 100% of the diagram height.
The "Margins" refer to the distance between the edge of the diagram and the edge of the location map.
This new capability applies to the following applications;
Borehole Manager / Striplogs / Multi-Log Section
Borehole Manager / Lithology / Section
Borehole Manager / Stratigraphy / Section / Modeled
Borehole Manager / Stratigraphy / Section / Straight
Borehole Manager / I-Data / Section
Borehole Manager / T-Data / Section
Borehole Manager / P-Data / Section
Borehole Manager / Fractures / Section
Borehole Manager / Aquifers / Section
Utilities / Solid / Section
Note: Embedding section-location index maps within diagrams that will be vertically exaggerated is not advisable. If you wish to combine a section location map with a cross-section, generate the cross-section and the index-map separately and combine them with the ReportWorks program.
(20) Cosmetic (10/16/08/JPR): The profiling programs no longer include an option for combining the parallel profiles into a single diagram. Instead, the program will automatically create a combined diagram within the newly redesigned profile menu/display dialog. A new sub-option titled "Generate Individual Diagrams" will load each profile into a separate instance of the RockPlot/2D program (in addition to the composite diagram).

(6) Cosmetic (10/07/08/JPR): The Borehole Manager / I-Data / Statistics Map option has been split into two separate programs for 2D and 3D diagrams.
(5) New Feature (10/07/08/JPR): A variety of new features have been added to the Borehole Locations sub-option within the following programs:
Borehole Manager / Map / Borehole Locations
Borehole Manager / T-Data / Time-Graph Map
Borehole Manager / Aquifers / Plan Map
Borehole Manager / Aquifers / Hydrograph Map
All programs that create index maps showing the locations for profiles, sections, and fence diagrams.
These new options include;
Enclosing Rectangle: Plots a
rectangle around the borehole title.
Opaque Background: Fills the title
background with a user-defined color before plotting the label. Notice
how the the labels within the following diagram would be unreadable in the
blacker regions without the white background. Conversely, notice how
the transparent background within the diagram above allow the user to see
the contour details.
Multi-Item Titles: The program now
allows the user to select one or more items for the borehole labels.
Prefixes & Suffixes: All of the new
title items contain their own, user-definable prefixes and suffixes.
The prefixes provide a
means for labeling each item within a multi-item label (e.g. "Total Depth
="). On the other hand, you may wish to disable the prefix
option if the labeling includes a single item. The "suffix" provides a
means for specifying the units that are being used. For example, you
may wish to add a "meters" suffix to all depths. A notable "casualty"
of this new capability is the removal of angled labels.
(4) Improvement (10/07/08/JPR): The options menu and display windows within the Borehole Manager / Map / Borehole Locations program have been combined into a single dialog. This eliminates the tedious process of creating a diagram and then re-loading the options menu in order to change things.

(2) New Feature (10/07/08/JPR): The Borehole Manager / Aquifers / Plan Map program now includes an option for plotting the borehole locations using symbols, titles, and log-traces (the course of inclined and deviated boreholes). This eliminates the hassles of creating a separate location map and then combining it with the aquifer plan-view map.
