RockWorks contour smoothing and faults

(061) 11/11/2020/JPR - New Feature:

A new option titled "Double Gridding" has been added to the Gridding | Options | Faulted sub-menu. "Double Gridding" will create more accurate interpolations adjacent to 3D faults but it increases the processing time by 100%. Without Double Gridding, grid interpolation begins by fitting an un-faulted surface to the data and then using the intersections of the 3D faults and this un-faulted surface to define fault polylines. These polylines are then used within the final modeling. When Double Gridding is activated, the "final" model is used to re-define the fault polylines and the data is re-gridded resulting in a more accurate map. The Double Gridding option is disabled by default because the effects are typically negligible. In addition, Double Gridding is unnecessary if the Smoothing option is enabled during gridding because the smoothing is essentially a form of Double-Gridding.

RockWorks fault double gridding

(056) 11/08/2020/JPR – New Feature:

An option titled “Perpendicular Mode” has been added to the Borehole Operations | Fractures | Solid Model menu. Checking this option will disregard the fracture azimuth and inclination data. Instead, all fractures will be assumed to be perpendicular to the log axis. This capability has been added for downhole seismic and radar surveys in which the fracture radius represents the distance to an object and the aperture represents the height of the object. As a consequence, using the Distance-to-Closest Intersection option can be used to identify features such as pilings and reservoirs.
