Improvement  (09/29/01/JPR): The files that are used to store the selected stratigraphic 'picker' wells are now stored in the project folder.  This makes life easier when switching between projects with different dimensions or coordinate systems.

Bug Fixes (9/11/01):  The following changes have been made to RockPlot3D:

Improvement (9/11/01):  If you attempt to open a data file that is in a project other than the current project setting, the program will ask you if you wish to automatically set the project folder to the same folder as the new data file.

Improvement (9/9/01):  The Geochem/Export/ASCII and Geophysics/Export/ASCII programs now allow the user to select the number or decimal places and column delimiter character.  The previous version was hardwired to scientific notation and tab-delimited fields.

Bug Fix (9/8/01):  The Geochem/Model/Filter and Geophysics/Model/Filter options now work correctly.  This capability allows the user to select which spatial and geochemical values should be used during the modeling process.  This same change applied to the geochemical profiles and fence diagrams.


Improvement Fix (9/8/01):  The Lithology/Model program now warns the user if no lithology data was extracted and suggests that the user check the data selections and the filtering options.

Bug Fix (9/8/01):  The Lithology/Model/Filter options now work correctly.  This capability allows the user to select which spatial and lithological values should be used during the modeling process.  This same change applies to the lithologic section and fence programs.

Bug Fix (9/2/01): The fence-diagram selection menu now "remembers" which panels have been selected, even if an endpoint lies outside the control area.  The previous version would discard any lines in which one or more endpoints extended beyond the control area.

Improvement (9/1/01): The direction for bar graphs, curves, etc. relative to the log axis within 3-D logs is no longer determined by the "Presentation Direction" setting.  Instead, the direction for these entities is based on the bearing of the log.  Vertical logs without any orientation data will have a bearing of zero.  Therefore the bar-graphs, etc. will plot in a north/south orientation.  If the user wishes to control the plotting direction for vertical logs, they can specify the bearing along with an inclination of zero.  Example;

This solves the a problem in which bargraphs were sometimes "spiraling" within deviated wells.  Example:

TO-DO: Remove the Presentation Direction option from the documentation and menus.

Bug Fix (9/1/01): Bar-graphs within inclined 3-D logs are now plotted perpendicularly to the log axis.  The previous version was inconsistent.

Note: In order for the symbol rotation to work properly, all symbols must be mirror images of themselves.  For example, an arrow symbol will be plotted incorrectly because the symbol will be rotated such that it is parallel to the axis of the log.

Bug Fix (8/30/01): The special symbols within vertical projections of strip logs are now plotted correctly along the right side of the log rather than the midline of the log.  Example:

Improvement (8/28/01): The automatic-interval depth labeling within vertical projections of strip logs are now plotted at more aesthetically-pleasing (less cluttered) intervals.  The program also now plots smaller tick-marks between the labeled tick-marks when either the automatic or manual labeling options have been selected (the previous version only plotted sub-intervals when the manual labeling options was selected).  Example:

New Feature 08/20/01 A new program called "Import RockWorks 99 Project" has been added to the File/Import menu.  This program will guide the user through the process of converting a RockWorks99 ATD file into a series of RockWorks/2002 borehole files.
New Feature 08/20/01 A new, "stand-alone" program has been created for importing LogPlot2001 data into RockWorks/2002.  This program may be obtained by contacting RockWare (mitch@rockware.com).  The final version will include this program within the installation file.
Bug Fix 08/21/01 The triangulation-based gridding within the stratigraphic block modeling now works if the "interpolate edge points" option has been activated.

Bug Fix 08/20/01 The dimensioning of profiles (lithology, stratigraphy, etc.) now saves the output in the save dimensions thereby allowing projected strip-log sections to be overlain with proper registration.

New Feature 7/31/01 The following new programs have been added to the Borehole-Manager/Export menu;
  • All Location Data -> Geological Utilities Datagrid: Creates a new data grid within the Geological Utilities and copies all of the location data from the logs within the project directory.
  • Downhole Datagrid -> Geological Utilities Datagrid: Copies the contents of the currently displayed log datagrid (e.g. Geophysics) to the datagrid within the Geological Utilities.  This is a useful utility if you want to process some of the downhole data within the utility programs (e.g. plotting a histogram of downhole geophysical values).  Note that this utility does not work for the Location datasheet because it's not a datasheet - use the new All Locations Data -> Geological Utilities Datagrid export if you want to examine the log location data within the Geological Utilities..
  • All Log Data -> ASCII Files:  Copies one or all logs to a series of ASCII files (.txt extension) with column titles.  The user may define the field delimiter and number of decimal places.
  • All Log Data -> Binary Files:  Copies one or all logs to a series of binary files (.bin extension) within the project directory.  These files are designed for later use by other programmers who need fast access to the log data from within other applications.
  • All Log Data -> Excel:  Copies one or all logs into Microsoft Excel.  Separate sheets are created in Excel for each of the data types (e.g. Location, Orientation, Lithology, etc.)
Cosmetic 07/30/01 The "Header" tab within the borehole manager has been renamed to "Location".
Bug Fixes 07/30/01 The following modifications have been made to the datasheet;
- A carriage-return now functions in a fashion similar to Excel.
- The log location comments are properly saved without column-width formating.
- The cut, copy, paste, delete, cut all, copy all, commands now work with the items in the log  location tab including the comments.
- The "cannot focus" error has been hopefully removed forever.
- Row numbers are now added whenever the user adds a new row.
Bug Fixes & Improvements 07/30/01 The following modifications have been made to RockPlot3D:
- Added the number of nodes to the grid and model Inof reports.
- Fixed the vertical exageration bug so that it honors the users input.
- Made the legend wider and adjusted the position of the right side legend.
- Added an INFO button to the Grid, Model and IsoSurface options dialogs that contains: min/max data and file names.
- Zoom out centers the model.
- Zoom in - up and down in the same location results in a 1.5x zoom around that location.
- Was reporting an incorrect max for grids and models.
New Feature 07/29/01 Add a new program called "Extract Solid" to the Volume menu.  This program takes a solid model (e.g. soil chemistry) and determines the volume of a pit that would be required to extract the portions of the solid model that exceed a specified limit (e.g. contaminated soil).  A report lists the pit and contaminant volumes and the stripping ratios.  A companion 3D diagram shows the pit and the contaminated soil.  
Bug Fix 07/29/01 The Solid/Convert/Ore-Thickness->Grid program now saves the grid values as thicknesses.  The z-values within the previous version represented the number of solid nodes that equal 1.0.
Bug Fix 07/29/01 The Solid/Convert/Overburden-Thickness->Grid program now sets all overburden grid values where there is no ore below to zero.  Additionally, the program does not include non-ore values below the lowest ore zone.
Bug Fix 07/29/01 The color legend options are now displayed correctly within the 2D color-fill menus.  This sub-menu is used by many menus such as the Ternary, Stereo, Ez-Map, Grid-Map, etc programs.

Major Bug Fix 07/16/01 The tab-control and data editing within the datasheets now works correctly.
Major Bug Fix 07/15/01 The borehole manager no longer (we think/hope) issues a sporadic "cannot focus" message thereby occasionally erasing downhole data.
Major Bug Fix 07/15/01 The previous version of the program would only store the active log contents if the user selected a different log in the log list, or a main menu item.  For example, if the user finished entering log data and then clicked the New-Log button, the data for the previous log was discarded.  This has been fixed by saving the active log contents whenever anything outside of the datasheet is selected.

Major Improvement 07/15/01 The Stiplogs/3D/Mutliple program menu has two new options labeled "Lithology Legend" and "Stratigraphy Legend".  These options are used to plot the selected legends within the 3D borehole diagram.  Note that the legends will only appear if the associated option is selected.  For example, a lithology legend will only appear if the logs include lithology.
Cosmetic 7/15/01 The RockPlot3D program now defaults to a vertical exaggeration factor of 1.0.
Major Improvement 7/14/01 The lithologic, stratigraphic, geochemical, and geophysical solid-modeling and fence diagram programs now include options to determine whether or not color legends will be added to the diagrams.  These new menu items also includes sub-options that determine how and where the legends will be plotted.
Bug Fix 7/14/01 The transparency setting for fence diagrams now works correctly.
Bug Fix 7/13/01 The fence diagrams that are generated from geochemical and geophysical solid models now have the same color-coding schemes for every panel.  This colors also correspond to the colors that are used by the isosurfaces. 
New Feature 7/13/01 Resampling options have been added to the solid modeling menus for both geochemistry and geophysics.  This allows you to reduce the number of xyzg points that are being fed into the solid modeling operations and thereby reduce the execution time - but it also decreases the accuracy of the modeling.
New Feature 7/13/01 A "Resample" option has been added to the striplog geochemistry options.  This allows you to plot the geochemical intervals at interpolated intervals rather than the original sampling intervals.
Bug Fix 7/12/01 The E-Log/Resampling within the striplogs now works properly.  The previous version would plot each point regardless of the sampling method or interval.
Bug Fix 7/12/01 The column titles within two-dimensional logs now plot correctly.  They did not appear at all in the previous version.
Removal 07/11/01 The Stratigraphy/Initialize-Row-Titles option has been removed.  It's too obnoxious.

Cosmetic 07/10/01 The View/Preferences/Data-Manager option has been renamed to "Data-Sheets".  This change was made because many of the associated settings apply to all of the borehole manager datasheets as well as the utilities datasheet.
Removal 07/10/01 The Delete key is no longer a shortcut for the delete option.  This removes problem when using the delete key to remove individual characters in a cell that is being edited.
Cosmetic 07/10/01 The Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete and Refresh buttons have been moved from the borehole manager sub-sheets to the left side of the master menu.

Improvement 07/04/01 The status window at the base of the main screen has been improved; it now displays two lines of text, includes a scroll bar to review previous operations, and there's a splitter bar that may now be used to expand the window.
Bug Fix 07/04/01 The data within disabled logs is now completely skipped by all programs that read the log data.  The previous version would attempt to read all log data regardless of the disabled/enabled status even though the data was not used.  As a consequence, the program would issue warning/error messages if the data in the disabled file was in error.

New Feature 07/04/01 Two new columns titled "Radius" and "Aperture" have been added to the Fractures tab.  The Radius field is used to define the radius of each fracture (unlike the previous version in which the radius was fixed for all fractures).  The Aperture field is used to define the width/thickness of each fracture (unlike the previous version in which the with/thickness was fixed for all fractures).

Major New Feature 07/02/01 The Water Levels tabs has been reinstated within the Borehole Manager and a new set of menu items has been created under the heading "Hydrology".  This menu includes options for creating 2D aquifer profiles, contour maps, fence diagrams and 3D models.
