Adaptive Groundwater

Input/Output Visualization

Adaptive Groundwater includes a “Review Input” feature that allows the user to view porous media properties (flow and transport), solute concentration initial conditions, recharge zones, flow and transport boundary conditions (e.g., specified head and concentration B.C.’s, lakes and river, pumping wells), monitoring points, and pathline starting locations.

Options for viewing model results are numerous and include:

2D Contours – 2D plan-view maps and vertical slices are displayed using either lines or color-floods and can show head or concentration.

Velocity vectors, pathlines and the simulation grid can be plotted as overlays, along with wells, monitoring points, and boundary conditions, and no-flow areas. You can easily scroll through output times, model layers and slices within the interface, and zoom in/out or translate the views.

Adaptive Groundwater

You can easily switch between 2D and the following 3D views using radio buttons on the View Simulation Results dialog. Plot format files can also be saved or imported.

3D Surface Plots – 3D surface plots show concentration or head values from a 2D slice. As with the 2D contours, the user can easily scroll from one time to another, and from one layer or slice to another.

3D Volume Plots – 3D volume plots van be used to display simulated solute concentration and hydraulic head as a 3D contour plot. Concentration, head and spatial blanking options are available to allow the generation of cut-away, isosurface, and 3D slice plots. Pathlines, well screen geometries, and the numerical mesh can be displayed as overlays. The 3D viewpoint, vertical exaggeration, and zoom factor can be adjusted.

3D Fence Diagrams – 3D fence diagrams can be created as single or multiple vertical and/or horizontal slices showing concentration and or hydraulic head. Pathlines, well screen geometries, and the numerical mesh can be displayed as overlays. The 3D viewpoint, vertical exaggeration, and zoom factor can be adjusted. Blanking options are also available.

All plots can be printed or exported to various vector- and raster-image formats, or as ASCII files.

Animations – Animations can be created for all of the viewing options above. Animations can be based on time steps, horizontal/vertical slices through the model, or view angle (3D plots).
