Initial Conditions

Concentrations

Adaptive Groundwater provides four techniques for defining realistic, complex initial concentration distributions in the simulation domain:

  • Concentration zones – assigned through polygons or cells
  • Superposition of multiple Gaussian plumes (based on analytical solutions of instantaneous point sources for multiple plumes) and concentration zone values
  • Three-dimensional interpolation (kriging) of concentration data [(x,y,z,C)] onto the computational mesh

 

 

Hydraulic Head

If the “compute initial heads” box is checked in the Simulation Control Parameters dialog (“Flow Solution” section) a spatially-variable Initial Head Solution is computed based on material properties and boundary conditions. If this is unchecked a User-selected initial hydraulic head, Ho (“Initial Head” option in the main menu), is assigned uniformly to all cells throughout the simulation domain.
