A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with bug fixes, improvements, and new features.

The RockWorks Revision History includes complete lists, by date, of all changes in the program

New Features:

  • A new program for creating Schoeller diagrams as been added to the Utilities / Hydrochem pull-down menu. The input for this program is similar to the other hydrochemistry program (e.g., Durov, Piper, Stiff, etc.).
  • A program titled “Resampling” has been added to the Borehole Operations / T-Data menu. This program provides a tool to assist in the determination of wells that merit resampling in the future based on the T-Data within each well and its surrounding neighboring wells. The neighboring wells are determined by locating the closest well within each radial of the sectors that surround the well in question. The angle and radius of the sector wedges are user-defined. If the well or its neighbors contain a T-Data value that exceeds a user-defined threshold (e.g., the non-detect limit), the well is flagged as worthy of resampling in the future. The results are saved within an RTF (Rich Text Format) file and automatically loaded into the default RTF application (e.g., Microsoft Word).
  • An automatic resampling option has been added to selected programs that use grids to truncate other grids and solids.
  • The Playlist / Dimensions options now include a button that will copy the current project dimensions into the respective fields.
  • A new Subsite option has been added to the Playlist / Add sub-menu. This option provides a means for switching to sub-sites within a Playlist.
  • A program titled "Surface Map" has been added to the ModOps / Solid sub-menu. Given a solid (block) model and a surface (grid) model, this program will create a grid whose cell values represent the solid model voxel values at the intersections with the surface grid.
  • It is now possible to manually control the minimum and maximum settings (versus the automatic settings) within the Utilities / Map / Radial Diagrams program thereby providing more control for how the data is normalized into the diagram, especially when using the logarithmic scaling option.
  • It is now possible to manually control the minimum and maximum settings (versus the automatic settings) within the Utilities / Map / Barchart Map program thereby providing more control for how the data is normalized into the diagram, especially when using the logarithmic scaling option. In addition, it is now possible to plot either the component titles, the component values, or both.

Improvements:

  • The "Strat Rules" tab now includes a blue help button adjacent to the 'Include Additional Contacts' option which will display detailed information about adding supplemental points to the stratigraphic modeling.
  • Improved the positioning of text in RockPlot3D files that are exported to the SketchFab Obj format.
  • Cylindrical bitmaps shown with 3D logs are now stored as one item instead of separate triangles.
  • When isosurfaces are initially displayed within the Plot3D program, the isosurface is set to "Contoured" so that truncated portions of models will be color-contoured. Previous versions would initially display isosurfaces as solid.
  • The Borehole Manager / T-Data / Multiple Solids program is now available within the Standard version of Rockworks.
  • The Import into RockWorks from LogPlot, will check in the folder for LogPlot2022 as well as LogPlot8 and LogPlot7 folders for the keyword file.
  • The Borehole Manager / View / Total Drilled Thickness program no longer includes borehole total depths that are less than zero. This accommodates datasets in which -9999 (or other negative numbers) are used to identify boreholes in which the total depth is not known.
  • The import of Lithology type (or Stratigraphy Types, Construction Types etc.) will set the pattern number to 1 when left blank in the source document during an import from Excel or an ASCII file.
  • Programs that create 3D diagrams now include an option at the top of the Output Options tab that is used to specify the title that will appear within the 3D plotting window. This minimizes the tedium of renaming items within the data tree especially when repeatedly creating composite diagrams by using the Playlist.
  • When exporting a Sketchfab Obj file users can now choose whether the legend will be displayed in the South Edge, Centered or North Edge of the scene.
  • The Utilities / Stats / Univariate program now computes the minimum non-zero value. This is useful when determining the smallest logarithmic cycle for other types of diagrams.
  • RockWorks is expecting the database to have the same name as the project folder. Now when the database is not found in the project folder, RockWorks will look for a database with a different name and offer to use it. This may happen when the folders/files are copied or rearranged outside of the RockWorks interface.
  • The Borehole Operations / Stratigraphy / Layered Model program now includes options for assigning fault g-values to the model nodes if the output is to be saved as a solid model.
  • User can now specify to show the Log Title at the top of the log, base of the log, or Top and Base on 3D Log Design tab when building a 3D Striplog diagram.
  • The ModOps/Solid/Edit as Block Model now provides dynamic volume calculations under the Edit tab.
  • You can now manually set the location of a RockPlot2D file from the options dialog in ReportWorks.
  • The Calculation of the XYZ values process will run more quickly now. Also improved the Coordinate conversions between Easting and Northing and the Other Coordinates.
  • Database Import: The user can specify a filter to limit the records imported, specifically from large external databases (the ability to abort the import has also been added). The filter looks like what might be in a SQL WHERE clause. For instance: ([Longitude] between -105.21038 and -105.209168) and ([Latitude] between 39.749242 and 39.7528)
  • Added a halo effect to anchor and single line text in RockPlot2D maps. The option can be accessed from within RockPlot2D and also for Borehole maps and and other 2D maps with labels.

Bug Fixes

  • The Utilities / 3-D / Triangle Mesh program no longer asks for a title column or line thickness and no longer plots duplicate sets of triangles.
  • The Graphics / 3D Tools / Merge program will no longer enable random items such as a dimensions cage without user selection.
  • The program will no longer hang-up if the boreholes are colinear in an east/west or north/south direction and the Adjust to 50x50 Nodes Minimum option is checked when using the the Project / Dimensions / Scan / Boreholes tool. Instead, the program will now behave as though the Adjust to 50x50 Nodes Minimum were unchecked if the boreholes are colinear in either an east/west or north/south direction.
  • The Symbol Map now generates the statistics needed for variable circle colors and sizing.
  • Borehole Manager - View | Filter/Select boreholes will correctly form the SQL Statement for Rectilinear regions.
  • Borehole Manager – The File | Export | T-Data | All Tracks option now correctly filters data within the specified time interval.
  • A bug which sporadically and unpredictably caused the stratigraphic modeling to freeze has been fixed.
  • If the program is unable to interpolate a grid model when creating layered stratigraphic models, diagrams, profiles, sections, etc., that grid will be skipped. The previous version would add the grid if it already existed from a previous process. As an example, consider the following scenario: The Stratigraphy / Layered Model program is used to create a diagram based on borehole data for three stratigraphic units named A, B, and C. If all of the borehole data for stratigraphic unit B is removed but it still exists within the Stratigraphy Types table a potential problem could arise. Specifically, the next time that the Stratigraphy / Layered Model program was executed, the program would skip the unit B interpolation but it would still attempt to load the top and base grids for subsequent filtering (e.g., onlapping, etc. top-to-base, base-to-top onlapping filters (and other filters). This potential problem no longer exists. Positive side-effects of this bug-fix include more graceful error handling when stratigraphic units are missing.
