Heather14 Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Used Rockworks many years ago for modeling, even took a course in Denver, but it's been awhile and I am struggling with how to import some historic data that is in DXF format. These are simple geology and resource solids and I have asked another colleague to try converting to ASCII XYZ, but he is pretty busy, plus...there must be a way to directly import 3D DXF's into Rockworks??? Any pointers are appreciated - Thanks!
Alison Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 You can import simple 3D DXF files into RockPlot3D. To do this, open a blank RockPlot3D window and go to File|Import. This tool imports DXF LINE, POLYLINE, LWPOLYLINE, 3DFACE, SOLID, and CIRCLE (filled) commands. So, if the DXF is more complicated, you may need to adjust the settings during the export, or explode the DXF in a program such as AutoCAD. If you are trying to do something with the DXF other than display it in 3D, we would really need more details to determine if this import is feasible.
Heather14 Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 Thanks Alison, I was able to simplify the 3D solids in another program and have them imported, now I need to figure out how to show them in profile section format as polylines - is this a pipe dream or is this possible and I am just going about it the wrong way?
Alison Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 We don't currently have a way to project a 3D DXF onto a profile or section. If you want to send us an example of the DXF file (and your RockWorks project if you are willing to share your data), we could take a look and let you know if we can think of any way to reproduce this in a format that could be projected onto a 2D diagram. You can email this to tech@rockware.com.
Heather14 Posted December 15, 2020 Author Posted December 15, 2020 Thanks Alison, I just sent the project folder, including a folder with the DXF's to tech@rockware.com
