rudyabo
Dear Rockworks Developers, In some cases, a lithological model can replicate complex geology and aquifer heterogenities better than stratigraphic models. Rockworks is already integrated with an attractive tool requiers more attention and effort for further development. As already known, Rockworks are being used by hydrogeologists for decades, helping by interpreting and modeling their hydrochemical and hydrological data, thus, it would be great to see type of link or coupling between Rockworks and available groundwater modeling GUI (e.g. Aquaveo GMS, GW Vistas, Visual Modflow..). So far, the Export - Modflow function utilize a .Dis dimesnion file to export different zones of each specified G Value, but constructing a conceptual model requers thicking about different way to do that.. So it would be so great to make it possible to export a lithological model into another Modflow format (e.g. .NAM, .IN ...etc). thanks for your consideration
Alison
Dear Rudyabo, Thank you for your input, we are currently working on some tools that will allow both RockWorks RwGrd files and block models (representing lithology, permeability, etc) to be imported into the Groundwater Vistas MODFLOW interface. If you are interested in learning more about these, feel free to contact me and I will send you additional information (we are currently working on a case study covering these tools). Best Regards, Alison Alison @ RockWare.com
rudyabo
Dear Alison, thanks for following up my post, great news! I am so excited to try that new feature in the coming versions of Rockworks. I'll appreciate to have any further information about it. Sincerely, Rudy
Rosialine Marques Roedel
Hi Alisson I'm trying to export surface from stratigraphy model to MODFLOW, but I couldn't convert Rwgrd in grd....First, I've tried to convert in shapefile, but data went to there as polygon... I can't interpolate polygon as raster in GIS .... So it's a messy..... I need a file as grid (interpolate surface) to build my model in MODFLOW .... Can you help me? Alison
How you approach this probably depends on which MODLFOW interface you are using. I think in most cases, the ASCII XYZ export (through the Grid menu) will likely load as a surface into your MODFLOW interface. I would probably turn off the header, and you can adjust the delimiter based on your preference (tab, comma, space, etc.). Also, if you are using Groundwater Vistas v7 and RockWorks17, we have added some new tools for exporting grids in a format that can be automatically loaded into Groundwater Vistas. You can find more information about this by doing a search for Groundwater Vistas in our Help files.
Rosialine Marques Roedel
Hi Alisson that's the problem: I couldn't find the option to export to ASCII.... (where is the grid menu?) I just opened my stratigrapy model and went to file and then export options....I'm using rockworks17 standard, but I would my surface as" .grd" extension to use in visual modflow flex.... I was researching and I figure out that option on old version of rockworks (2006)... Please, could you help me? Rosialine
Alison
When you create a stratigraphy model, top and base RWGRD files are created and stored in your project directory. They are named based on the names of the stratigraphic units in the project. To export one of these RWGRD files as an ASCII file, to go the Grid|Export menu in the Utilities portion of the RockWorks program. There, you'll find the option to export both ASCII file and Surfer GRD files, which would probably work as well in Visual MODFLOW Flex. I hope this helps! Rosialine Marques Roedel
Thank you so much Alisson, I found the grid Export tools!!! So, one more doubt....is there one tool to clip my grid in an specific area, as I can do on GIS features? Sincerely, Rosialine
Alison
Yes, this is available under the Grid|Filters|Polygon tool. You'll need to create a polygon table that contains the xy locations for the vertices in the polygon.

Rosialine Marques Roedel
hI THERE I'm using rockworks 17 and would like to export lithology model to modflow flex, how can I do that? where can I find modflow export function?
Alison
Rosialine, RockWorks does not currently include any tools for linking RockWorks lithology models to MODFLOW Flex. The program does include some tools designed to export data to a Groundwater Vistas MODFLOW model. Please take a look at the documentation for these tools in the help files. I think you could probably manually modify the DIS file created by MODFLOW Flex so that it can be used to extract a lithologic value for each cell in your MODFLOW model. You will have to figure out a way to import that data into your MODFLOW Flex file. If you'd like to pursue this further, please send us your lithology model and your DIS file, and we'll try to help you through this process. You can send these files to tech @ rockware.com.
