3d strike and dip mapping?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm using RW16 and am wondering if I can create 3d strike and dip maps? The help info only seems to talk about 2d mapping for strike and dip. We want to be able to generate a series of planes, in one view, set various strike and dip angles for each plane, and then display them in 3d. Is that possible with Rockworks?

Regards,

Mira

Hi Mira,

One of the easiest ways to display planar features in 3D is with the Utilities Faults menus. The Single Dip List -> 3D Ribbon can be used to create a single plane. Save the RockPlot3D files and append them together with the File | Append menu.

Also, 3 points define a plane, so you can use 3 XYZ points in the data sheet and grid them with a Polynomial First Order method.

Thanks, Tom. After looking through the help menus further, I found that I could plot multiple 3d discs that represent the strikes & dips. It worked quite well.
