aorr
I've had a coworker request an animation that mimics the "cut down" style of animation that RockWorks automatically generates for us. However, instead of cutting down equally with a plane, he would like each layer of rock in a Lithology block model to be removed one at a time (and perhaps fading out between each layer). Is there a way to do this in Rockworks without manually doing the animation by hand with G-Values and turning each layer on and off? I've thought that this would achieve the look we're after but it would be quite a bit of work to do it. Have all the G-Values for lithology be assigned from the bottom up (or top down), and after generating the lithology block model turn a lithology layer off by filtering it out, save a graphic of the block model, then repeat for the next layer down. You could then take each of these frames and put them in video software with a fade between frames. Thanks for any help you can think of, -Andy
aorr
I guess this may not be possible. Perhaps I can export each individual layer as a shapefile object and render it in ArcScene with fades between layers. One other question: Is there any form of keyframe animation built into Rockworks for controlling different types of animations and layer vizibility? Molly
Hi Andy, Again, sorry for the delay in replying to your questions. Your original thought should work - display the lithology model, filter the block display for a particular lithotype and set the desired view angle and zoom, and export a raster (PNG, JPG) snapshot. Repeat for the other lithotypes. You can then create a quick AVI file of these images in RockWorks itself - just list the sequence of PNG file names in the Utilities datasheet, and select Imagery | Picshow: there you can view a simple slide show as well as export to AVI or animated GIF (file menu in the picshow viewer). For more elaborate video effects, you would need to use a third-party video or animation program. RockWorks does not offer a keyframe method of "scripting" your animation (great idea...). For a quick overview of the animation options in RockWorks, please take a look at the recording of our Nov 2013 webinar: Molly Mayfield RockWare Inc.
