Hi,

I'm trying to append different lithology models for different stratigraphies, but I'm getting an out-of-memory error when building my 3D model. I was wondering if you could advice me on the best way to handle this.

The number of cells per stratus is max 10 million cells in the solid models and I'd like to append about 5-6 stratigraphies, getting to a max model sixe of about 60 millions cells, which is pretty large of course. However, for the purpose of the model, I'd rather not decrease the resolution.

Is there anything else you could recommend to try? Or should I just go with decreasing my resolution?

Thanks,

Ellen

Unfortunately, if you are appending several models together in RockPlot3D, I think that you will eventually run into these memory errors (hopefully a future 64-bit version of RockWorks will help with this).

If all of the models have the exact same extends and spacing, and if there is no overlap between stratigraphic units, then you might try the Solid / Filter / Replacement program in the Utilities to combine all of the models into a single RWMOD files (which will be much more manageable in RockPlot3D).

Feel free to contact us directly with more details about this at tech @ rockware. com.

Thanks,

Alison
