I just installed the new version of RW 16, and now I can't start rockworks.

I get the error: Your data dictionary is out of date and your current installation was not installed with the installer.

I went into my temp files and changed the name on the app data so that RW would make a new folder, this did not resolve the problem. I tried unistalling, rebooting, and re-installing from the new .exe downloaded from the Rockware site. The problem still happens.

Any ideas? I did email the bug report to support@rockware.com with a screenshot of the error.

Thanks,

Eric.

Hi Eric

Hmmm, interesting message.

I just tested installing today's build on top of the last-published (2013.11.13) build and could not duplicate this problem.

I would try this:

1. Close RockWorks16.

2. Rename the C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\RockWare\RockWorks16 folder to "RockWorks16_old".

3. Rename C:\ProgramData\RockWare to "RockWare_old".

4. Restart RockWorks16.

The program should rebuild the "master" data dictionaries and reference tables in ProgramData, rebuild your global user settings and libraries in AppData\Local, and start up RockWorks16, opening the Samples project folder.

Let us know if this is not what happens. Please specify the name of the project folder that the program is trying to open.

I'll also run this by the programming group for their review.

Thanks

In fact, I already did this: It created a new RockWorks folder, and then did the same error. I'm worried that there's a registry entry or some crap, or my carefully queried data is making it act all strange.

Just for grins, I uninstalled and reinstalled again, and the same thing happened. I'm not even trying to open any project folder: It does not even get that far.I see the error, click "continue", the RW start screen pops up, then closes immediately, and I'm back to where I was with no RW open.

Hi Eric,

Did you do #3 above - renaming the ProgramData folder? That step is important because that is the repository of the master database dictionaries. If you did not do that step, please repeat all of the listed steps again.

Are you using an MS SQL database, or are you using the standard MDB?

If this does not solve the problem, it would be helpful to go through this with you over the phone - just give us a call.

Thanks

That error sounds familiar: I had to run an sql update script with my MS SQL databases and put a Version.txt file in a Rockworks system folder (both provided by Alison (Rockware)) - don't remember which of the two actually got rid of the error, but RW16 latest install is currently working.

Hope that helps,

Julia

Hmm. I haven't heard back in a few weeks. Is this still possible? I would like to use some of the Google earth plug-in modifications of the new version, but it still does not work, even after starting a new project.

Hi Eric,

I'd sent you a couple of emails with some suggestions, including a copy of the Version.txt file referenced above. Please let me know if you did not receive those emails and I can re-send.

Thanks
