Geo- type error message

Recommended Posts

When I try to import my data from excel, I get the error message :"Geo type incorrectly added, could not be indexed." I checked the rockworks mdb and the structure is there, but no data was imported. The excel table is the same structure I have used in the past with no issues. If I try again to import into the same database, I then get the message : "The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again", but as I said, there is no data in there. I double checked the borehole tab and there are no duplicate entries. Any suggestions?

This may be difficult to trouble-shoot without seeing the XLS file you're importing. You might try creating a new project folder using the default database structure, and then importing the file again to see if the original error recurs. If so, please send us the XLS file so that we can check the layout. You can send the file to [email protected]

Thanks for the quick response, Molly. I did try to export an excel structure and pasted my data in, with no luck (same error). Then I deleted everything but the location data, and the location data came in fine. So then i started adding items (data types) to the file piecemeal and determined that it was an entry in the lithology type. One of the lith types was too long and getting truncated and creating an entry that must have duplicated another lith type. I renamed the problem entry and renamed all the related entries in my lithology tab and that fixed the problem.

Good sleuthing. You are correct that Lithology Types are limited in length to 80 characters, and they'll be truncated on import.
