"I/O error 21" message opening Logplot

Recommended Posts

A customer recently saw this error when starting up LogPlot 7, before even getting to the startup licensing screen. The I/O Error 32 occurred when the program was trying to copy system files (function "TSysCopyForm.copy_system_files").

It turns out the default "documents" folder for this user's account was mapped to an external drive which was no longer connected. So, instead of the usual "C:\Users\username\Documents\" path (in Vista and Windows 7), LogPlot was trying to write to a music folder in the F: drive (aka thin air).

You can determine the default Documents folder for the current user account via the Windows Registry (which is also where LogPlot gets this info). Using RegEdit, access HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders, and its Personal key.
