Lithology accounting for azimuth/dip data (Rockworks15)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

is there a way to create a hole-to-hole section and/or fence diagram in RW15 taking into account dip and azimuth (input from dip-meter) of lithologic units?

Kind of lithology blending that takes into account azimuth and dipping direction of the lithology?

Thanks for any input on this.

Julia

Hi Julia,

You can add dipping beds to your model by using the "Tilted Modeling" or "Warp Model Based on Grid" options under the Create New Model radio button under Lithology Modeling Options within the Lithology tab. The "Tilted Modeling" option biases the model with a single, constant dip direction and dip amount across the entire model area. The "Warp Model Based on Grid" causes your lithology layers to mimic the structure of a gridded surface that you specify. For example, you may want lithologic units to mimic the structure contour of a formation that you have confidently mapped. Both of these approaches work well for handling regional-scale structural bias. Individual borehole-by-borehole, more local-scale adjustments cannot presently be handled by these approaches.

Thanks Dan,

I've checked these options but was hoping that Rockworks could take into account more detailed azimuth/dip information for modeling.

Dear Julia,

We have added this suggestion to our wishlist for the next version of RockWorks.
