longduckdong 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Can I calculate the area of a polygon using 7 survey points to create that polygon.
TomB 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 Surfer 9 displays the area of a polygon in the Properties dialog. Surfer 8 and previous versions do not have any built-in area calculation tools, but you can save the polygon as a BLN and use a Surfer script to calculate the area. longduckdong 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2009 I have Surfer 9 and it gives me the area of the polygon but not the surface area of the land in the survey coordinates. Example: The area of the polygon was 439.77321590909 cm2 on a drawing of 1:5000 scale. Ineed the land area in m2 or Ha or Acres
TomB 0 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 It sounds like you may have created the polygon by drawing it on the page in page units. To draw the polygon in map units and get the area in map units, create a new empty base map with the Map | New | Empty Base Map menu command, or add a new empty base layer to an existing map by right-clicking on the map and choosing the Add | Empty Base Layer menu command. Right-click on the Base object in the Object Manager, and choose the Enter Group menu command. Draw the polygon by choosing the Draw | Polygon menu command and clicking on the map. Press ESC to exit the drawing mode. Right-click on the Base object and choose Exit Group. Double-click on the polygon to display the Polygon Properties dialog box, click on the Info tab, and read the Area from the dialog box. The units will be the X units times the Y units.
