MarionNew 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Hi, I'm a total newbie in using both Surfer and AutoCad Map, and trying to import information of a .dwg file to Surfer (to make a 3D map of a lake). I'm using AutoCad Map 3D 2009, and tried saving .dwg as .dxf, but then I don't get the z-dimension to Surfer. I've been told I should try using "DXF2XYZ " to convert .dfx to XYZ file, but there seems to be some problem with this. Does saving the .dwg as .dxf in AutoCad Map already loose the z-component, and how could i avoid this? Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who give any suggestions about fixing this. TomB 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2009 Hi MarionNew, Normally, saving a DWG to DXF in AutoCAD preserves the Z value. Surfer does not read the Z value in a DXF file, so the DXF2XYZ utility is often a good way to extract this data. You are welcome to send me a ZIP file with your DWG and DXF files, and I'll be happy to take a look at them. Thanks, Tom B [email protected]
