Improvements (12/28/17) Implemented FireDAC's Array DML to speed up imports. This basically fills an array with the new data and sends it to the database all at once, reducing the back and forth communication with the database engine. It was applied to the new import, the Penetrometer import, the Geoprobe DI import, the multi-column I-Data, P-Data, etc. imports, and the copying of data from one project to a new project. (12/21/17) Added ability in Utilities Map | EZ-Map to color code symbols by value in a column. (12/20/17) Added option to specify Gridding Options Max Distance Cutoff in ft/m. Previously was only in percent of project extents. (12/15/17) Added an IsoSurface/ Voxel option to the Solid | Morph. (12/11/17) Utilities/Survey/Lidar To Cloud program. This program will load huge files (4.5GB tested) and display them as a point cloud. There is an option to specify Red, Green and Blue columns or use a single color. Very large files can be decimated (recommended). Fixes (12/28/17) 0007208: Dimensions dialog in RockPlot3D, View- Dimensions. The "Reset Defaults", "Stretch Fit" and the center coordinates weren't working. (12/21/17) 0007205: Fixed problem in Utilities Survey | XYZ -> Optimum Path | Plot 3D Path. Fixes: (11/29/17/MIW): The Show RCL settings for the Grid Gonstant Math now show the correct variables.(040) (11/20/17/MIW): The Borehole Survey Report now lists the inclination in the same system as that which is specified within the input menu. (11/01/17/JCJ): Import I-Data was not importing due to the import reader reading past the end of the file. (10/30/17/JCJ): The State Plane conversion now works correctly. (10/23/17/JCJ): The View | Select boreholes now shows the boreholes when the data units and Model unit are different. Specifically; When there were mixed units (e.g. feet vs. meters) between input (database data) and output units (Grid and Model Dimensions, there was an issue with the Scan boreholes function to calculate the dimensions corectly. This was most notable when working with subsite dimensions. Please note: the dimensions are always shown in the Output dimension units (this was also fixed to display correctly) (10/20/17/JCJ): The Excel/Text import has been re-designed to import data within the correct sequence. Specifically, the previous version iterated over the import as it is stored in the file, which broke the importer as it needs to import in a sequence to maintain the data's relational integrity (i.e. import the Stratigraphy Types and Locations before Stratigraphy). (10/09/17/JCJ): The single-table Excel and Text imports now work correctly (again). Improvements: (11/30/17/MIW): Changes to the Orientation Resolution will now rescan the borehole data in order to recompute the XYZ coordinates along the borehole. (11/30/17/MMM): The Help menu now has a Show Log menu item within the Miscellaneous section. (11/29/17/MIW): The Automatic Increment for deviated boreholes is now based on the elevation range of the project rather than the "project diagonal" (distance from maximum SW elevation to minimum NE elevation). This convention works better for horizontally large projects with shallow boreholes. (11/22/17/JPR): The Preferences | RockPlot/3D menu now displays an option labeled "Hide warning when overwriting tables." This replaces a previous checkbox where the text was garbled (i.e. "Don't show his dialog."). If unchecked, RockPlot3D will display an overwrite warning when appending other RockPlot3D diagrams into the current diagram. These files may contain lithology and stratigraphy tables that are different than the current diagam. For example, let's say that you've displayed a new 3D log diagram and append a stratigraphy model that was created before adding some new stratigraphy types. In this case, the stratigraphy table within the old file will not include the new stratigraphy types. (11/20/17/MIW): Multiple labels may now be pasted as one group into the Morph Models | Labels dialog. (11/13/17/JPR): The Utilities | Solid | Polygons -> Solid program has been rewritten to work correctly. (11/13/17/JCJ): When a project uses SQL Server logins (versus a Trusted connection/OS Authentication), the login of User name and Password can be a part of the connection parameters. This is done from the Advanced button on the Connection editor (or Database Engine tab in the New Project Wizard). Uncheck "Use Trusted Connection" and the enter values for User_Name and Password in the FireDAC Connection Editor dialog. If one or both of these are left blank a Login dialog will appear when opening the database and allow the user to enter them. The values will be cached for the session so the login dialog appears only once, instead of multiple times, but not saved. The behavior change is the caching of the user name and password and suppression of multiple appearances of the login dialog. (11/13/17/JCJ): The Foreign Key / Types Editor (for Aquifer, Bitmap, Lithology, Stratigraphy, and Well-Construction types) allows the user to create and show user-defined fields. Look for it in the Edit menu of the Types Editor. (11/13/17/JCJ): A memory leak in the Foreign Key / Types Editor has been plugged. (11/02/17/MIW): Some typos within the Collada Export menu have been fixed. (11/02/17/MIW): An option has been added to the RockPlot3D configuration for disabling the double-buffering. This addresses a rare problem with selected Intel video cards. (11/02/17/MIW): An option has been added to the RockPlot3D | Collada Export for including "normals". (11/02/17/MIW): The item spacing within the Collada Export | Select menu has been fixed. (11/01/17/MIW): A Collada (dae) export option has been added to the RockPlot3D program. Only one object at a time can be exported. The choices can be confusing on busy scenes so it's best to turn off items in the scene first. Some programs such as Sketchup require that the coordinates are shifted to a 0,0,0 origin and there's an option on the dialog for this. The Collada file and it's texture file are separate files and must be in the same folder but they can be moved. The texture file either contains the colors or a draped image. Also during the bulk conversion to PLSS the messages showing the hunt for Meridian/Township/Range and Section are suppressed . (10/27/17/MIW): It is now possible to select multiple items within the ReportWorks Layer List. This new capability works with the Delete Layers and Select Layer Items options. (10/27/17/MIW): The ReportWorks custom scaling no longer resets the y-scale when changes are applied. (10/19/17/MIW): The memory report no longer generates negative numbers. (10/19/17/MIW): The memory report no longer changes to the same color as the background if the available memory drops below 25%. (10/18/17/MIW): The layer information is now saved when importing DXF polylines into RockPlot2D. (10/18/17/JCJ): Help is now included with the installations. Whether to use it or not, is still set in the Preferences | General Program Settings | Help System. The date of the zip file is maintained so if a newer version is included in the installation it will be un-zipped automagically (only if RW is set to use the local help). If the help is set from the web back locally the date will be checked at that time and unzipped if necessary.   3. A customer, new to RockWorks17, saw the following error when the program first launched, as it was trying to load the Samples database: Could not open the database. Error loading MIDAS.DLL This error prevented the program from launching. This DLL is used by the RockWorks database. We install it along with the program into the RockWorks17 program directory (C:\Program Files\RockWare\RockWorks17 [64-bit version] or C:\Program Files (x86)\RockWare\RockWorks17 [32-bit]). It had been our understanding and our experience that the DLL local to the program calling it would be used. On this customer's Windows10 system, this was definitely not the case. After he confirmed that this DLL was indeed installed in the RockWorks17 program folder, we then had him search the Windows Registry on his computer for other occurrences of "MIDAS.DLL". There were two, and they referenced file locations that did not exist on his computer or network. He ran a registry cleaner which presumably removed these orphaned references, and then RockWorks17 launched successfully. Happy ending! Molly Mayfield RockWare Inc.

RockPlot2D DXF Import fixed to import objects to separate layers if selected. Scan boreholes for subsites with different XY units in the borehole than in the project dimensions works correctly. View | Select Boreholes fixed to show boreholes even when borehole XY are feet and project dimensions are meters. New Features and Improvements RockPlot3D added Vertical Exaggeration to the main window for easier changes. RockWorks help is now included with the installation. A new version of RockWorks 17 was uploaded to the RockWare website with the following changes: The ChkMaint.dll is now implemented with the DelayLoad option to work around problems installing RockWorks. The ChkMaint.dll error is reported in the Setup Log*.txt in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Temp\ The command line argument /force=true helps to work around problems installing RockWorks with the ChkMaint.dll error. Project Dimensions are now displayed when specified after importing an Excel file into the Borehole Manager. Fixed a problem with Google Earth export fragmenting memory. Fixed a problem with digitizing points in RockPlot2D. Data | Options | Export: clipboard and text file were not working, Updated link to unlock RockWorks via the web. Fixed a problem with RockPlot2D - File | Import | DXF: local map origin not being saved. Fixed a problem with the borehole name and data out of sync when hiding disabled boreholes.   6. A customer submitted a support issue for his RockWorks17 project, in which he was trying to create a Section diagram through his solid model with striplogs included. He had imported a very detailed polyline into the XY Coordinate Table - LOTS of vertices - to serve as the section trace. In the output diagram, at about a third of the way along the cross section, the logs started 'stacking up' at one location, resulting in the P-Data panels to the right displaying ok, but with no logs. The problem was best solved by using the P-Data | Projected Section diagram, in which the logs are not restricted to plot at panel edges; they are projected perpendicularly onto the panels instead. This is actually what the Projected Section diagrams were designed for - to eliminate the need to draw hole-to-hole section traces when the desired section polyline runs along a roadway, pipe, or similar, and those locations (typically imported into the RockWorks database) might be quite detailed. The problem was also solved for regular Sections by turning on the Snap feature in the Section Selection Map window before importing the section vertices. This pre-processes the section polyline such that logs can be assigned to panel junctions without confusion. Molly M RockWare Inc

  8. A new version of RockWorks17 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following new features, improvements, and bug fixes. New Features: T-Data can now be displayed within the EZ-Section correlations. It is now possible to save the scene dimensions within RockPlot3D thereby allowing for the viewing of scene subsets. The Drape and Rectify programs can now drape an image over a selected portion of a grid. Note: The selected rectangle must be within the grid. Uniform and Circular symbols within the symbol maps may now be color-coded based on a cold (purple) to hot (red) color scheme. Lots of changes to the Stratigraphy Picker and Lithology Picker programs: + These programs now include a horizontal strip at the top of the cross-section that shows the borehole titles. This new feature solves a problem of scrolling down the logs and losing track of which logs are being displayed. It also eliminates the need to include the log titles within the Striplog Designer and the large offsets that can occur between the log titles and the log body when using vertical exaggerations. + They are now non-modal, meaning that the user may now access the main RockWorks dialog while these programs are running. + The three main work panels within the Stratigraphy Picker and the Lithology Picker are now “dockable”, meaning that they can be detached from the main form by dragging the stippled pattern within their title bars. As a consequence, they can me moved to other screens, resized, etc. When these sub-forms are dragged over the main form, small icons will appear to assist with the repositioning of the sub-forms within the main form. + Clicking on the docked panel within the new Stratigraphy and Lithology picker programs will now undock the panel. + Clicking on the Close button within floating panel will now reset the layout. + A Reset button has been added to the Picker programs to restore the original startup layout. + The Zoom, Vertical Exaggeration, and Decimal Place options within the Picker programs now include spin buttons. + The Zoom, Vertical Exaggeration, and Decimal Place options within the Picker programs are now saved between sessions. + The New button within the Stratigraphy and Lithology picker programs no longer returns the user to the main menu. Instead, the user may now select different boreholes and change other options and resume the process without restarting the process from the main menu. Improvements: Importing a Multi-Table text file into the Borehole Database no longer defaults to Local Meters if the units aren’t specified within the text file. Instead, the program now defaults to the current project units if the units aren’t specified within the text file. The Visible Menus options within the basic license now include the Borehole Manager Map and Strip Log menus. The EZ-Section correlation panels now all use the same min/max values when computing the color scheme. The new Color Legend option now works with I-Data, P-Data, and T-Data EZ-Section correlations. Bug Fixes: The Image Rectify, Image to Map, and other programs that save a raster image to a RockPlot2D diagram now set the corner point coordinates correctly. The Convert Solid to Grid algorithm now calculates the most frequently occuring points correctly. The Solid to GWV (GroundWater Vistas) Zone Matrix output has been fixed. The I-Data Fill options within the 2D Log Designer are now correctly saved. The P-Data Fill options within the 2D Log Designer are now correctly saved. The Utilities | Map | 3D Points program no longer generates a "Could not convert variant ..." error. The Utilities | Hydrology | Flowlines program no longer generates a "Could not convert variant ..." error. Draped images now show the correct colors within RockPlot3D. The State Plane Index map now properly lists Florida zone 903. The Delete View option within RockPlot3D is now visible. Images are now plotted in the correct location when draping a RockPlot3D drawing with Peripheral Images. Creating line or color contours with a faulted grid that contains null values will no longer cause the program to lock-up (infinite loop) when the null nodes correspond with the fault zone. A new version of RockWorks17 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following improvements and bug fixes: IMPROVEMENTS + Stratigraphic Units that extended below the boreholes' Total Depth are now included within the stratigraphic modeling. This provides greater utility for users when the Lithology and Stratigraphy Picker programs are used to interpret units below the logs. + All data that extends beyond the Total Depth is now displayed within the strip logs. + The ModPATH Import program now imports data that uses more than one space to delimit the data fields. + The Utilities - Datasheet | Additional File Information default coordinate system zone is now set to the project's values. + A reminder about rescaning the subsites has been added to the confirmation when reprojecting/reassigning project coordinates and rescaning the boreholes. + When prompting to save the RockPlot 2D on exit, the initial directory is now set to the current project folder. + The confirmation dialogs for setting project coordinate systems have been adjusted. BUG FIXES + The Grid Math | Grid and Constant program now uses the correct file input and output settings. + When reprojecting/reassigning project coordinates and then rescaning the boreholes an access violation was being raised if the Quickmap window was showing. The program will now change back to the Borehole Data page before reprojecting/reassigning. This capability has been added for viewing and modeling small areas within a larger project. By creating sub-sites, it is possible to still have all of the boreholes within a single database rather than creating separate RockWorks project databases. When the Subsite pull-down menu is initially clicked, the options will include the downward-pointing arrow is clicked, a pull-down menu will appear showing two options: "Full Project" and "Edit Subsites". The Full Project option will reset the Project Dimensions to the original, large-scale dimensions. The Edit Subsites option is used to create one or more subsites. These subsites may be widely separated, adjacent to each other, or overlapping. Once selected, the Edit Subsites option will display the following menu dialog: To create a new subsite, click on the "Add" button and a dialog, as shown below, will appear asking for the name of the new subsite. After pressing the OK button, the subsite name will be shown (see item #1 below), and the subsite dimensions may be manually edited within the Grid & Model Dimensions portion (item #2 below) of the menu. The subsite dimensions may also be edited via the following tools: Selecting the Import Dimensions option from the File pulldown within the menubar at the top of the Subsite menu dialog (see below). Selecting the Scan Datasheet option from the Edit pulldown within the menubar at the top of the Subsite menu dialog (see below), or clicking on the Scan Boreholes button at the base of the Subsite menu dialog. Selecting the Scan Borehole option from the Edit pulldown within the menubar at the top of the Subsite menu dialog (see below), or clicking on the Scan Borehols button at the base of the Subsite menu. The Notes tab within the Subsite menu may be used to add miscellaneous notes, including images, relating to the subsite (see example below). After the OK button within the Subsite Edit menu dialog has been pressed, or whenever a different subsite has been selected, a dialog box will appear, asking if the boreholes outside the new subsite should be disabled. The idea behind disabling the boreholes around the subsite is to minimize the processing required to create models at the subsite dimensions. For example, if the main project has 10,000 boreholes but the subsite only has 25, there's no sense in including all of the boreholes within the process. The "Buffer Percent" will compute the diagonal size of the subsite and not disable any boreholes that reside within the specified percentage of the diagonal size from the border edges. This has been included to prevent "edge effects" when plotting maps of adjacent subsites. Once the subsites have been defined, switching between them, or switching back to the full project dimensions, is simply a matter clicking on the Subsite pulldown and picking the desired site (see below). (077) Improvement (11/22/16/JPR): The Smoothing Method (i.e. Averaging versus Classification) is no longer available within the Smoothing sub-menu when creating a Lithology model. Instead, the program will always use the Classification method when modeling Lithology data. (072-076) Improvements (11/21/16/JPR): The Project | Settings | Project Image sub-menu has been re-designed such that: (072) The current Project Image file name is shown in a bold font. (073) If a Project Image has not been selected, the Project Image file name will be shown as "<UNDEFINED>". (074) The Project Image is now changed by selecting the new Select button. (075) A new Project Image can be rectified (calibrated, rotated, clipped) by selecting the Create button. (076) A "thumbnail" preview of the Project Image will now be displayed within the sub-menu. (069) Improvement (11/21/16/MIW): The Utilities | Widgets | GeoTrig | 3-Point Problem program now indicates when there is an error condition (e.g. three points along a line). (068) New Features (11/20/16/JPR): A new option titled "Show Infrastructure" has been added to all of the menus that are used to create profiles and sections. This new feature will compute the intersections between the vertical profile or section slices and the 3D entities such as Buildings, Structures (subsurface buildings), Tubes (e.g. pipelines and buried tanks), Roads, and Walls within an Infrastructure File (see item #060 below) and plot them within the diagrams. As shown by the diagram below, this new capability will compute the intersections between the 3D Infrastructure entities and the vertical panels represented by profiles and sections. Cylinders, Buildings, and Structures will be plotted accurately, meaning that their dimensions represent the distance between their walls as defined by the intersections of the vertical planes. Roads and tubes, however, will be plotted such that their symbol will be centered on the axis intersection with the vertical plane. The width of the roads will be set to whatever width was defined within the Infrastructure file. The radius of the tubes will be equal to the radius that was defined within the Infrastructure file. These caveats prevent extraneous road fragments and tube intersections plotted as ovals. The Infrastructure Options menu is identical to that used by the Utilities | Grafix | 3D-Utilities | Infrastructure program with the addition of options for filling and labeling the Infrastructure entities: The following table summarizes which Infrastructure commands are processed as two-dimensional objects when using the Show Infrastructure option to superimpose the entities (or the intersections thereof) on top of profiles and sections: (068) Improvement (11/20/16/JPR): Infrastructure features such as Buildings, Walls, and Roads that extend beyond the ground-surface reference grid (assuming that the Variable elevation model option is being used) will no longer be plotted at the default elevation. Instead, the portions of these entites outside the reference grid will be omitted from the 3D diagram. Other features such as Cones, Cylinders, and Oblates will be omitted if their midpoints are outside the elevation grid. Buildings whose midpoint is outside the elevation grid will also be omitted. (060-067) New Features (11/19/16/JPR): The following changes have been made to the Utilities | Grafix | 3D-Utilities | Surface Objects program: (060) The program has been renamed to "Infrastructure" because some new capabilities have been added for plotting sub-surface features (i.e. buried tanks, pipes, building sub-structures). Given that the surface and sub-surface features are meant to plot man-made objects, the title "Infrastructure" is more appropriate. (061) The menu has been redesigned with an Options button that displays a dialog which is shared with other programs (e.g. Profiles and Sections). (062) Either tabs or spaces, or any combination thereof, may now be used as field delimiters within the ASCII input file. (063) A new TUBE command has been added for plotting buried tanks and pipelines.
