  1. A new version of RockWorks was uploaded to the RockWare website, with bug fixes, improvements, and new features. The RockWorks Revision History includes complete lists, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: Added the ability to copy “enabled” boreholes into another project understanding that the database structure would have to match for all the data to transfer. A warning message is displayed when an optional field in the target 'Location' table is missing. ESRI Shape Exports of Stratigraphic Fence diagrams now include the formation name as an attribute. This included reworking the appearance of the fence panels in the scene. Scales for RockPlot2D file in ReportWorks can now be specified with an engineering scale. Improvements: The Save settings in Peripherals now include user settings for each saved item as well as the layout for the pieces. Look for a new Add Margin button on the toolbar on the left side of 2D diagrams that adds a 5% margin to the edges around your diagram. This option was also added to the Utilities menu in RockPlot2D. Rewrote the Aquifer export. It now resembles the Stratigraphy export. ModOps | Grid | Export | RockWorks Datasheet - unused columns for Color, Thickness, Line Style were removed from the export. On editing a Playlist item as text: the text editor File | Exit and the Exit button behave the same. The File | Save behaves like a Save As and will now set the file extension to RWPlaylist with an option for txt. The File | Save As will still prompt to write back to the current Playlist (if modified). RockPlot2D Property dialogs are now displayed relative to the position of the mouse. Added the ability to copy “enabled” boreholes into another project understanding that the database structure would have to match for all the data to transfer. A warning message is displayed when an optional field in the target 'Location' table is missing. Bug Fixes: Grid silhouettes that are added to multiple parallel profiles will be plotted on the their individual profiles instead of projecting all of the grids onto the first diagram. Vertically exaggerated multi-profile diagrams are now displayed correctly. Previous versions would be plotted at a vertical exaggeration of 1.0 thereby requiring that the user manually specify the vertical exaggeration after the diagram was displayed. In the example shown below, the diagram containing four profiles is now initially plotted at the specified vertical exaggeration of 50X. The "Override Automatic Titles" option within the Parallel Profile menus (used by a variety of programs) now accepts user settings. The Load Layout option in the 2D Log Designer will now update the settings displayed in the dialog when you load a previously saved layout. The title height for RockPlot2D Color Legends is now adjusted when the Vertical Exaggeration is set from the main options to greater than one. The ESRI Stratigraphic Fence programs use the updated fence locations from the user specified table when the location tab is opened. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.18. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. 2. A new version of RockWorks was uploaded to the RockWare website, with bug fixes, improvements, and new features. The RockWorks Revision History includes complete lists, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: An ESRI Shape file containing polygons can now be turned into a RockWorks grid file. The Playlist output tabs have been revamped. Double clicking ona playlist output tab will detach the page into a separate dialogue that fills the main monitor. A new item titled "View This List As An HTML File" has been added to the base of the How-To "tree". Clicking on this item and selecting the Copy option will copy the URL to the Windows clipboard so that it can be sent to other who may not be able to access the RockWorks How-To option (e.g., RockWorks is not installed on their machine). The new program to add boreholes to the database interactively through RockPlot2D now adds the Elevation and Collar Elevation fields if the map contains a color contour layer. The Project Settings file and Playlists now reference I/P/T data names rather than index number. Improvements: The Automatic perimeter annotation dimensions are now based on the extents of the diagram, including text blocks. It is no longer possible to launch two or more instances of the How-To dialog. This prevents problems with multiple-clicks on the How-To button. Model tilting and warping control now better followw user commands and selections. A video-help button has been added to the 2D Striplog / Projection sub-menu. The Striplogs / Log Profile tab has been renamed to "Projection" within the 2D Striplog Profile, Section, and Projected-Section programs to be consistent with the re-design of the 2D Striplog menu. Note: Striplogs within profiles do not have a Projection tab because they are always plotted using the Normal Projection (i.e., the logs are projected into the panel as-is). The Stratigraphy Picker was displaying the location incorrectly when the Vertical Exaggeration was not equal to 1, now user can set VE to what they want to view. Bug Fixes: If a GeoTIFF is an a geographic coordinate system (Lat/Long), the program was not converting the Z values. It will now retrieve the units from the GeoTIFF and convert if needed. The Add New Borehole function in RockPlot2D now offers a dialog where the user can select a surface grid, fixed elevation or no elevation for the borehole elevation. Additionally a a Total Depth is added. The Shape Polygon to grid program now offers replacement options based on polygon order, highest vale or lowest value. A suite of new tools has been added to a new tab labeled "Options" within the Utilities / 3-D / Tubes program. These options include the ability to wrap images around the tubes. When exporting I-Data, P-Data, T-Data, I-Text and P-Text and sorting by "Order Field" was causing an error when using SQLServer as the database engine. This was due to differences in SQL dialects, it worked with SQLite but not SQLServer. It now works with both engines. Borehole Manager: View | Change Sorting - now shows the current sorting of the boreholes. When the Data Dictionary is missing and is copied in from the default, we update it for any optional fields found in the database tables. The borehole location map options now include an option that determines if stratigraphic information labels will be plotted adjacent to the borehole symbol or at the plan view downhole locations. All boreholes are now included when interpolating a polygon-clipped lithology model via the Lateral Extrusion algorithm. The RockPlot2D Color Legend using the Min-Mid-Max scheme requires an odd number of intervals. If the number of intervals is not odd then the program decreases the minimum value by the contour interval. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.18. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. To download this build, use the Help | Updates | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks. RockWorks Link, click on free trial tab: https://www.rockware.com/product/rockworks/ where you can download the installation program and install the new build right over the top of the existing program. (DO NOT uninstall first.) Note that you will not be able to use this new build of the program if your maintenance has expired before January 2023. Contact RockWare Sales or visit our Customer Portal (https://www.rockware.com/customer/) if you would like to update your maintenance. Katy Duncan RockWare Inc
  3. A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with bug fixes, improvements, and new features. The RockWorks Revision History includes complete lists, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: A program titled “Digitize Raster Log” has been added to the Graphics / Images list. This program is used to scan raster log images and extract the depth value information for a selected, colored curve. Note that each curve must have a unique color! The Borehole Operations / P-Data / Normalize program now includes options for truncating low and high outlier values before the normalization takes place. The Dip algorithm has bee added to the Stratigraphy Structure Grid and 3D Stratigraphic programs. A new set of option have been added to the Graphics / Images / Digitize Raster Log program. These options determine how the program will deal with sub-horizontal curve segments that intersect the scanlines ambiguously. The Location Map sub-menu that is used for sections, profiles, and fence diagrams now includes a Manual Offset option for manually specifying the offsets for the endpoint labels. The Automatic Offset option will always place the labels 90-degrees from the closest line segment which may produce maps in which the borehole locations (or other objects) overlap the labels. The ModOps / Solid / Logic / Solid -> Boolean Solid program now includes options for creating a Boolean solid based on a color model. The P-Data / Normalize program menu now includes an option to specify the number of decimal places within the output. Improvements: The Borehole Map program now uses Block Text which incorporates multiple lines of text with a perimeter and a leader line. The Playlist's "Project Units" command will now update the Coordinates and Borehole Manager tabs when run. The ModOps / Solid / Filters / Solid with Boolean Grid program has been renamed to Solid with Constraining Grid(s) and the program has been completely re-designed to filter based on an upper constraining surface, a lower constraining surface, and/or a Boolean “Cookie Cutter” grid. The ModOps / Solid / Statistics Report menu no longer asks for a conversion factor. Instead, the program now asks if the g-values represent percentages. If so, the programs asks if the g-values are expressed in terms of zero to 1.0 or zero to 100. The ModOps / Solid / Extract Grids / Solid to Grade-Thickness Grid program now saves the voxel columns with all null voxels as null nodes within the output grids. Stratigraphy data in Borehole Maps is now plotted at the correct location for deviated boreholes. When checking data integrity, the results can become too large overwhelming the control they are shown in. So now, when the results are too big, the are trimmed down displaying a only portion. The full results are still saved in the project folder as both CheckDataIntegrityResults.txt and CheckDataIntegrityResults.html. The Color Legend in RockPlot2D can now display a logarithmic scale in the Min/Max and Min/Mid/Max schemes. A Group column has been added to the Faults tab. The user can enable/disable faults based on the values entered into this column either by the group value or based on a pattern using wildcard characters. Faults displayed in 2D maps can now be clipped by either the grid or the project dimensions. The Borehole Operations / Striplogs / All Logs to PDF now creates a PDF in which the contents are alphabetically sorted by the Borehole Name field. The Utilities / Widgets / True Dip program has been redesigned to include a "Compute" button rather than updating the results whenever an input item is changed. This eliminates potential "lock-ups". The Borehole Operations / Striplogs / Lithology Picker and Stratigraphy Picker programs now include a checkbox option at the top-right of the dialog that allows the user to hide and show the datasheet. In RockPlot3D the view remains the same when appending another file. The Utilities / Widgets / GeoTrig / Height program can now compute the angle from the viewer to the object, the horizontal distance from the viewer to the object, and the line-of-sight distance from the viewer to the object. The Dip algorithm for Stratigraphy Layered Models will honor faults that already exist in the project. The Stratigraphy Picker now retains the values for Azimuth and Dip. The following changes were made to these table names in the interface (under Map/Model Tables): Point Map Range Table --> Vector Symbol Range Table 3D Point Map Range Table --> Color Point Map Range Table Bug Fixes: The I/P/T Data Column Layout Subdivision Intervals now allows the user to see values with more than 1 digit. Using Ctrl+C in the Utilities - Coords | Convert Single Point now copies all coordinates to the clipboard as text. The Borehole Operations / Stratigraphy / Grid Volumetrics program has an updated menu. Borehole Manager - File | Import | Text | Column-Based Imports now saves/honors the Negative Data Values Behavior settings. The ModOps / Solid / Create / Images -> Solid program now saves the output model using the specified file name. The previous version would incorrectly use the name that was specified within the "Use Existing Model" tab when the "Create New Model" option was selected. The scrollbox arrows within the raster log depth calibration screen works correctly to scroll up and down the log (ie: 10% increments). The Borehole Operations / Striplogs / Borehole Survey and Datasheet -> Borehole Survey programs no longer share the same symbol-plotting variables for the 2D map and the 2D profiles. As a consequence, the symbols within the 2D maps are now plotted properly. The Annotation option in RockPlot2D for Profiles, Logs and Sections has several fixes. The Faults options has been removed. The Other 2D Files now works correctly. The Annotate option now works correctly though the X Axis is based of the coordinates used in the file. Single logs always have an origin ox=1,500,000. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.17. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. To download this build, use the Help | Updates | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks20. 4. A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with bug fixes, improvements, and new features. The RockWorks Revision History includes complete lists, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: The Input Columns sub-menu that is shared by the programs within the HydroChem menu (Durov, Piper, Schoeller, Stiff, Stiff Map, Ion Balance, Total Dissolved Solids, and Ion Report) now includes options that determine if the input data is in mg/L (milligrams per liter) or mEq/L (milliequivalents per liter). A new option titled "Isolate Geobody that Includes Point Source" has been added to ModOps Solid menu. The solid display options used by many of the RockWorks programs has been re-designed such that IsoMeshes may now be plotted in combination with a voxel diagram. The IsoMesh options within RockWorks now provide greater control over which lines will be plotted and their spacing. A button titled "Close Sub-Menus" has been added to the Layout pull-down menu. The Graphics / Images / Vertical / Single program now includes a tab labeled “Margins”. If enabled, the endpoint coordinates are projected outward to accommodate additional annotation outside of the actual profile. Added 'Edit' menu item to allow user to combine two data types. This works for Stratigraphy, Lithology, Well Construction, Aquifers, Bitmaps, I-Data, I-Text, P-Data, P-Text and T-Data Types Tables. Improvements: The IsoSurface display options now includes an option to display the cap and cutaways as contoured or solid. The Input/Output Models, Cutoff Levels, and Remove Smaller Geobodies submenus within the ModOps / Solid / Filters / GeoBody Filter menu have been consolidated into a single tabbed page. The message that appears upon startup without an internet connection is more explanatory. If less than two boreholes are selected when using the Borehole Manager / Striplogs / Lithology Picker or Stratigraphy Picker, a more explanatory message will be displayed. A concentration option has been added to the Inverse Distance Weighting algorithm for gridding, It adds a non-linear weighting based on distance to the modelling to show a concentrated contouring around data points. Added menu item for Stratigraphy and Lithology Types Tables, the option to turn off all units/materials. 3D Polynomial Trend Modeling changed to use dynamic arrays so it is no longer limited to 2000 points, and all the points are added at once to eliminate re-dimensioning the array at each point. When importing RockWork data types into the Keyword editor you can now choose between the new entry and the current entry when there is a duplicate. The Keyword editor will also prompt you to save when exiting the dialog. Bug Fixes The Graphics >Animate >RockPlot 3D File now correctly generates a video when using the Advanced option. The QuickMap display of the project image was not using the World File or Manual position settings. If less than two boreholes are selected when using the Borehole Manager / Striplogs / Lithology Picker or Stratigraphy Picker, and the Continue button is selected, the program will no longer generate an Access Violation error message. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.17. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. To download this build, use the Help | Updates | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks20. 5. A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with bug fixes, improvements, and new features. The RockWorks Revision History includes complete lists, by date, of all changes in the program New Features: 3D Faults can now be exported directly to DXF and Shape File formats. 2D Faults can now be exported to DXF and Shape File formats. A new program titled "Migration Simulation" has been added to the Graphics / Animate menu. This program will create animations in which the low values migrate to the high values or vice-versa. A new program titled "Distance to Point" has been added to the ModOps / Solid / Filters menu. This program will replace non-null nodes with values equal the straight-line distances between the nodes and a specified point source. Improvements: The IsoSurface display options now includes an option to display the cap and cutaways as contoured or solid. The coordinate minimum and maximum values have been added to the RockPlot3D file in order to make Embellishing the file clearer. Files will need to be resaved before the extents will be added. The "Use Faults" option within the solid model smoothing dialog is now disabled by default and the option title has been changed to "Use Faults (Very Slow)". Bug Fixes The Graphics >Animate >RockPlot 3D File now correctly generates a video when using the Advanced option. The ModOps / Solid / Math / Solid Math / Constant divided by Solid option now works correctly. The previous version would fail to create a model. The Utilities / 3-D / Triangle Mesh program no longer asks for a title column or line thickness and no longer plots duplicate sets of triangles. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. To download this build, use the Help | Updates | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks20. RockWorks Link, click on free trial tab: https://www.rockware.com/product/rockworks/ where you can download the installation program and install the new build right over the top of the existing program. 6. A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with bug fixes, improvements, and new features. The RockWorks Revision History includes complete lists, by date, of all changes in the program New Features: A new program for creating Schoeller diagrams as been added to the Utilities / Hydrochem pull-down menu. The input for this program is similar to the other hydrochemistry program (e.g., Durov, Piper, Stiff, etc.). A program titled “Resampling” has been added to the Borehole Operations / T-Data menu. This program provides a tool to assist in the determination of wells that merit resampling in the future based on the T-Data within each well and its surrounding neighboring wells. The neighboring wells are determined by locating the closest well within each radial of the sectors that surround the well in question. The angle and radius of the sector wedges are user-defined. If the well or its neighbors contain a T-Data value that exceeds a user-defined threshold (e.g., the non-detect limit), the well is flagged as worthy of resampling in the future. The results are saved within an RTF (Rich Text Format) file and automatically loaded into the default RTF application (e.g., Microsoft Word). An automatic resampling option has been added to selected programs that use grids to truncate other grids and solids. The Playlist / Dimensions options now include a button that will copy the current project dimensions into the respective fields. A new Subsite option has been added to the Playlist / Add sub-menu. This option provides a means for switching to sub-sites within a Playlist. A program titled "Surface Map" has been added to the ModOps / Solid sub-menu. Given a solid (block) model and a surface (grid) model, this program will create a grid whose cell values represent the solid model voxel values at the intersections with the surface grid. It is now possible to manually control the minimum and maximum settings (versus the automatic settings) within the Utilities / Map / Radial Diagrams program thereby providing more control for how the data is normalized into the diagram, especially when using the logarithmic scaling option. It is now possible to manually control the minimum and maximum settings (versus the automatic settings) within the Utilities / Map / Barchart Map program thereby providing more control for how the data is normalized into the diagram, especially when using the logarithmic scaling option. In addition, it is now possible to plot either the component titles, the component values, or both. Improvements: The "Strat Rules" tab now includes a blue help button adjacent to the 'Include Additional Contacts' option which will display detailed information about adding supplemental points to the stratigraphic modeling. Improved the positioning of text in RockPlot3D files that are exported to the SketchFab Obj format. Cylindrical bitmaps shown with 3D logs are now stored as one item instead of separate triangles. When isosurfaces are initially displayed within the Plot3D program, the isosurface is set to "Contoured" so that truncated portions of models will be color-contoured. Previous versions would initially display isosurfaces as solid. The Borehole Manager / T-Data / Multiple Solids program is now available within the Standard version of Rockworks. The Import into RockWorks from LogPlot, will check in the folder for LogPlot2022 as well as LogPlot8 and LogPlot7 folders for the keyword file. The Borehole Manager / View / Total Drilled Thickness program no longer includes borehole total depths that are less than zero. This accommodates datasets in which -9999 (or other negative numbers) are used to identify boreholes in which the total depth is not known. The import of Lithology type (or Stratigraphy Types, Construction Types etc.) will set the pattern number to 1 when left blank in the source document during an import from Excel or an ASCII file. Programs that create 3D diagrams now include an option at the top of the Output Options tab that is used to specify the title that will appear within the 3D plotting window. This minimizes the tedium of renaming items within the data tree especially when repeatedly creating composite diagrams by using the Playlist. When exporting a Sketchfab Obj file users can now choose whether the legend will be displayed in the South Edge, Centered or North Edge of the scene. The Utilities / Stats / Univariate program now computes the minimum non-zero value. This is useful when determining the smallest logarithmic cycle for other types of diagrams. RockWorks is expecting the database to have the same name as the project folder. Now when the database is not found in the project folder, RockWorks will look for a database with a different name and offer to use it. This may happen when the folders/files are copied or rearranged outside of the RockWorks interface. The Borehole Operations / Stratigraphy / Layered Model program now includes options for assigning fault g-values to the model nodes if the output is to be saved as a solid model. User can now specify to show the Log Title at the top of the log, base of the log, or Top and Base on 3D Log Design tab when building a 3D Striplog diagram. The ModOps/Solid/Edit as Block Model now provides dynamic volume calculations under the Edit tab. You can now manually set the location of a RockPlot2D file from the options dialog in ReportWorks. The Calculation of the XYZ values process will run more quickly now. Also improved the Coordinate conversions between Easting and Northing and the Other Coordinates. Database Import: The user can specify a filter to limit the records imported, specifically from large external databases (the ability to abort the import has also been added). The filter looks like what might be in a SQL WHERE clause. For instance: ([Longitude] between -105.21038 and -105.209168) and ([Latitude] between 39.749242 and 39.7528) Added a halo effect to anchor and single line text in RockPlot2D maps. The option can be accessed from within RockPlot2D and also for Borehole maps and and other 2D maps with labels. Bug Fixes The Utilities / 3-D / Triangle Mesh program no longer asks for a title column or line thickness and no longer plots duplicate sets of triangles. The Graphics / 3D Tools / Merge program will no longer enable random items such as a dimensions cage without user selection. The program will no longer hang-up if the boreholes are colinear in an east/west or north/south direction and the Adjust to 50x50 Nodes Minimum option is checked when using the the Project / Dimensions / Scan / Boreholes tool. Instead, the program will now behave as though the Adjust to 50x50 Nodes Minimum were unchecked if the boreholes are colinear in either an east/west or north/south direction. The Symbol Map now generates the statistics needed for variable circle colors and sizing. Borehole Manager - View | Filter/Select boreholes will correctly form the SQL Statement for Rectilinear regions. Borehole Manager – The File | Export | T-Data | All Tracks option now correctly filters data within the specified time interval. A bug which sporadically and unpredictably caused the stratigraphic modeling to freeze has been fixed. If the program is unable to interpolate a grid model when creating layered stratigraphic models, diagrams, profiles, sections, etc., that grid will be skipped. The previous version would add the grid if it already existed from a previous process. As an example, consider the following scenario: The Stratigraphy / Layered Model program is used to create a diagram based on borehole data for three stratigraphic units named A, B, and C. If all of the borehole data for stratigraphic unit B is removed but it still exists within the Stratigraphy Types table a potential problem could arise. Specifically, the next time that the Stratigraphy / Layered Model program was executed, the program would skip the unit B interpolation but it would still attempt to load the top and base grids for subsequent filtering (e.g., onlapping, etc. top-to-base, base-to-top onlapping filters (and other filters). This potential problem no longer exists. Positive side-effects of this bug-fix include more graceful error handling when stratigraphic units are missing. 7. A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program New Features: The Playlist / Dimensions options now include a button that will copy the current project dimensions into the respective fields. A new Subsite option has been added to the Playlist / Add sub-menu. This option provides a means for switching to sub-sites within a Playlist. A new program titled "Solid Model" has been added to the Borehole Operations / Stratigraphy pull-down menu. User can now specify to show the Log Title at the top of the log, base of the log, or Top and Base on 3D Log Design tab when building a 3D Striplog diagram. A program titled "Surface Map" has been added to the ModOps / Solid sub-menu. Improvements: The Utilities / Stats / Univariate program now computes the minimum non-zero value. This is useful when determining the smallest logarithmic cycle for other types of diagrams. When the database is not found in the project folder, RockWorks will look for a database with a different name and offer use it. Added a halo effect to anchor and single line text in RockPlot2D maps. The option can be accessed from within RockPlot2D and also for Borehole maps and other 2D maps with labels. Borehole Manager - Database Import: The user can specify a filter to limit the records imported, specifically from large external databases (the ability to abort the import has also been added). Bug Fixes The pop-down sub-menus within the Borehole Manager / QuickMap menu are no longer drawn incorrectly (along the right edge of the menu) when the main RockWorks menu is maximized on the third monitor of a three-monitor computer system. Exporting lithology fence diagrams from the RockPlot3D program to Google Earth now works correctly when the input is is Florida State Plane - East coordinates. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. 8. A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: A Decluster option has been added to the Utilities / Maps / Triangulation Contours program menu and the program will now automatically removed any duplicate points from consideration even if the Decluster option is disabled. The previous version would always execute the declustering thereby decreasing resolution around clustered points. A program titled Radial Diagrams has been added to the Utilities / Maps sub-menu. The Utilities / Stats / Sieve Analysis program now includes an option for plotting vertical lines indicating where the sieve curves intersect a user-defined threshold. This provides a visual indicator that shows the grain sizes above or below a percentage threshold. Improvements: When opening a playlist in a text editor (through the interface), and then making a change, the user will be prompted to write it back to the current Playlist. Since this is more of an edit function, this item was moved to the Edit menu and is shown modally. The Setup / Misc / Enable Randomization options has been removed because the Delunay triangulation option is now hardwired to remove duplicate points. The Utilities / Animations / RockPlot3D -> Animation program is running significantly faster. In some cases, animations that took one or more hours are now produced in a few minutes. Also, the program no longer runs out of memory when rendering complex diagrams. Bug Fixes If the program is unable to interpolate a grid model when creating layered stratigraphic models, diagrams, profiles, sections, etc., that grid will be skipped. A bug which sporadically and unpredictably caused the stratigraphic modeling to freeze has been fixed. Borehole Manager - File | Export | T-Data | All Tracks, in the time interval data tracks to be included is fixed. Borehole Manager - View | Filter/Select boreholes will correctly form the SQL Statement for Rectilinear regions. 9. A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: The Borehole Manager / Lithology / Multivariate Map program has been rewritten and enhanced to include bar chart, spidergram, and blended color maps. The 3D Triangulation Surface program now includes an option for adding a "skirt" around the perimeter of the diagram in which the base elevation is defined by the user. Added a Location Map program to the >Borehole Operations >Maps menu. This programs allows users to create a location diagram for previously created and saved sections, profiles and fences that are stored in the project database. Five new import options have been added to the Lithology Types / File menu. Selecting one of these options will add pre-defined keywords and associated patterns for the selected soil classification system. This will alleviate the drudgery of manually populating a lithology Types table. A new option titled "Merge Lithology & Stratigraphy Tables" has been added to the program that creates custom-color tables. The purpose behind this new capability is to assign colors to a solid model that has been created by merging lithology and stratigraphy models. Search RockWorks Help online for the full write up about custom color updates. The Borehole Manager/Fractures Solid Modeling program has been re-designed and significantly enhanced. These changes apply to geotechnical (tunneling and roadcuts), environmental (contaminant migration pathways), hydrothermal (steam vents), mining (breccia pipes and hydrothermal venting), and petroleum (hydrofracing) applications. A new option titled “Sort By” has been added to the 3D Lithology Legend sub-menu. If the Sort By option is set to Name, the legend will be sorted by the lithology Keyword. If the Sort By option is set to G-Value, the legend will be sorted by the G-Value. Improvements: The size of the RockWorks exe file has been decreased from 659mb to 253mb by relocating some of the help messages. This means that the program loads much faster. Excel/Text Import (Row-based tables) Now displays a red "X" button to close a Block Mapping tab. The selected tab sheet is easier to see with the title bolded. The Combo-Box on the Block Selection tab displays an alternate button ("...") to show the block mapping tab for that selection as a further indicator for the user to look at the mappings. The drop down list can be sized. When loading example datasheets in to RockWorks the program will match datasheet columns with items in the menus. The raster export menus within RockPlot3D will now automatically append the appropriate suffix to the file names if they are omitted. For example, if saving a PNG and “Test” is entered for the file name, the file name will be automatically renamed to “Test.png” if the OK button is clicked. The grid creation dialog will give you an overwrite warning if the Grid file exists. Users can now switch the RockPlot3D Cage units between meters and feet. No projections are changed. The Depth Bar in RockPlot3D can now be switched to display feet or meters. When creating a new project based on an existing project the linked files in the RockPlot3D file are now copied with the RP3D file. No change to any embedded files. Additional font size options have been added to the Sieve Analysis program for the Annotation and Axes. The Annotation font size is activated by an Override check box. Changes have been made to the Lateral Blending algorithm to allow varying degrees of randomization specified by the user. Search in the RockWorks online help to learn more about the changes and see examples in a pdf document. Sort Order for I/P/T-Data table is now honored immediately in the displayed grid after modification by the user. Option now given to Sort tracks either by Name or Order for I/P/T-Data table when using 'multi-track' export. User can now specify the number of decimal places for the track values when using I/P/T-Data multi-track export functionality. The Density increase and decrease button within the Pattern Selection sub-menu now increase and decrease in 0.25 increments thereby minimizing the need to manually specify the Density. In the Polygon Table Editor, you can now import from a datasheet that defines polygon perimeter points. When Editing data in the Borehole Manager (e.g. Lithology) using the 'Edit as a Datasheet' tool, only applicable menu items have been preserved, especially for the Import menu. Bug Fixes Stratigraphy section creation will now continue even if a missing surface is encountered. The Label Decimation checkbox within the 2D diagram Peripherals / Color Legend now properly enables / disables the decimation setting. The Preview button in the RockPlot3D 'Rotate' Animation now displays the rotation axis. (Remember to move the dialog off of RockPlot3D so you can see the preview axis.) Control points outside the clipping region as defined by polygons, superface surfaces, and/or subface surfaces are now used during lateral-extrusion model interpolation. The RockPlot2D Text Table dialog no longer displays the column configuration panel by default. Opening RockPlot3D files from the Project Manager no longer opens with just the caption bar and instead shows the whole window. 10. A new version of RockWorks2022 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: You can now copy or paste column titles from/to the datasheet. Since you cannot select the titles row, and determining if the clipboard data has titles would be difficult, these options are separate Edit menu options. If multiple columns are selected, the Paste will start at the first column selected. If no specific columns are selected it will start at the column after the "Use" column. Similarly the Copy will only grab the column titles of the selected columns if multiple columns are selected. If no specific columns are selected it will copy all column titles. Improvements: Improved the drawing of Fence Diagrams utilizing Color Tables. An option to export a grid file in another format has been added to most grid creation and filter functions. Multiple files can now be dragged and dropped from the Windows File Explorer to RockWorks. Execution History is being save in monthly files. They will be deleted automatically after one month. The retention value may be set in Setup | Preferences | Misc. and is one month by default. Select/Filter boreholes allow for unspecified values as where before they were represented by a '0'. Since a '0' is a valid value, it caused erroneous results when assumed as unspecified. Also the value's precision has been changed from 4 to 8 decimal places. Ending dates have been extended in range calculations to better include the ending date. Bug Fixes The logic for manually specifying decimal places for map axes label honors users selected number. The Section and Profile Horizontal Axis spacing Annotation no longer reverses the Automatic and Manual settings for the Tick Mark and Label Spacing. All options are now visible within the Fence Options / Location Map Options sub-menu. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. To download this build, use the Help | Updates | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks20. 11. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: Added a new program, Stratigraphy | Grids->Simple Stratigraphy, that displays a set of surfaces listed in a Utilities Datasheet. A new program titled "Drawdown Grids" has been added to the Utilities | Hydrology pull-down menu. This program will create a series of grid models based on a starting day, an ending day, and time increments. The list of grid models is intended for subsequent animation with the Utilities | Animate | Grids -> Contour Map Animation and Grids -> 3D Surface Animation programs. Unlike the Drawdown Surface program, however, the days cannot be specified on a well-by-well basis. The Input sub-menus within four of the Graphics | Animate programs (shown below with the red box) now include an option to enable or disable the date annotation within the animations. A program titled “Solid Vertical Slice -> Grid” has been added to the ModOps | Solid | Extract | Grids sub-menu. This program may be used to (1) create a grid that represents a vertical slice through a solid model based on two user-defined endpoints, (2) display the grid, and (3) create a report that lists the XYZ coordinates and corresponding solid-model g-values at those locations, that can be saved in a variety of formats. A new program titled “QAPF Diagram” has been added to RockWorks under the Utilities | Stats pull-down menu. This new tool allows users to work with igneous rock classification. Improvements: The editor for working with Project Notes has been improved to include Numbered Bullets as well as Find and Replace options. The Shape Import to RockPlot2D now can apply elevation or other numeric data from either the shape file (shp) or the attribute table (dbf). The Total Depth Grid program now allows users to filter by total depth. Borehole Manager Import workflow can now use a Synonym or Alias table during column-based import of I/P/T-Data to list replacements for various ND (non-data) records. The Editor for viewing a Playlist now has a "Search and Replace" option. The save function will also default to the RWPlaylist file extension. The user can create a fault based on a triangulated surface created from either a datasheet or XYZ data file. Grid Create: The "Dip" Algorithm is mutually exclusive to the other algorithms. It has its own menu item and requires 5 columns as input: X, Y, Z, Direction, and Dip. This algorithm will not work for the generic XYZ to Grid creation. The XYZ to Grid does not show the "Dip" algorithm and the XYZ & Dips to Grid only shows the "Dip" algorithm parameters. Bug Fixes The Hydrology | Drawdown Surface program now saves the output grid to the grid name that is specified and the Duration field decimals have been decreased from 8 to 2. T-Data | Time-Graph, Peripherals, scalebar option removed. You can create a new project based on an existing project using a Custom Coordinate Reference System. This was giving an error. The "Include Aquifer Name" and "Include Sampling Date" options are no longer clipped within the 3D Log Design | Aquifers | Symbols & Captions sub-menu. Since Collar Elevation is no longer a required field, it was showing up as an Optional Field in some places. Borehole Manager | View | Filter | Select boreholes - Using the sizable rectangle to select boreholes works again. Borehole Location Map | Optional Fields now displays the field's short description (display label) instead of the field name. The Y (Northing) Cutoff position was being miscalculated in the Cutoff dialog. The Export to PDF when creating Cross Sections or Profiles now sizes the output files correctly honoring Vertical Exaggerations other than 1 (one). We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. 12. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: A Pinchout Filter has been added to the Grid|Filters that allows the user to create pinchouts between 2 grid surfaces using either a minimum thickness or a polygon. Users can specify the pinchout to use the top, bottom or average elevation. The Borehole Operations / Striplogs / Lateral Geo-Steering program has been completely redesigned. A program titled “Total Depth Grid” has been added to the Borehole Operations / Maps sub-menu. This program will create and display a grid depicting an interpolated surface that intersects the base of all enabled boreholes. A program titled “Fade With Depth” has been added to the ModOps / Filters sub-menu. This program will decrement voxel values below a specified elevation or a user-defined surface (grid) model. The new (9/7/21) capability for including "supplemental points" when creating stratigraphic models based on borehole data has been enhanced to include optional dip information for the upper and lower contacts. Please note two caveats: (1) This information is only used if the Dip Direction algorithm is used to model the surfaces. (2) If a dip is specified for the top surface of a stratigraphic unit but no elevation is provided, the dip information will be ignored. The same applies to the base. Improvements: The ModOps / Volume / Extract Via Surface Extraction program has been modified and improved. The Time Filter has been added to the Time Graph and Time Graph Map menus. Borehole Manager will now import Point Shapefiles directly into the Location table. The RockPlot2D Scalebar now draw the filled scalebar to appear similar to the peripherals scalebar which it replaces after this change. The endpoint labels can now be displayed left, right, both or no sides. Water level data can be appended to existing data like T-Data in the Single Table Import. There is a check box on the right to Append the data (or not) for Water Levels to allow the user to make this choice to replace or append the data. The RockPlot3D Strat Unit decimates very large grid surfaces when Solid Fill is selected. Users can see the decimation factor in the option dialog and turn decimation off. The drawing of the 3D Stratigraphy Units has been improved to better work with null values and the minimum thickness cutoff. In addition Cutoffs can now be applied. The minimum thickness transparency option has been removed. The RockPlot2D Color Legend now allows you to set a separate Text Interval form the Color Interval. The Text and Color Interval must both divide evenly into the Z Range and a warning will be issued by the dialog. A Copy File command has been added to the Playlist Add menu at the top. Bug Fixes The 'Perform Smoothing Last' option for Solid Models now operates whether the Smoothing option is enabled or not. The RockPlot3D Export for Sketchfab will now plot all the Legend values for a custom table when transferred to Sketchfab. RockPlot2D Rectangles now use 4 points so that they can be properly converted to Latitude/Longitude Degrees and will appear correctly in Google Earth Vector files. The Borehole Surface Intersection now correctly omits boreholes that don't intersect the surface when the Omit option is selected. The Borehole Surface Intersection now correctly marks boreholes that start below the surface. The Borehole Surface Intersection now shows all the boreholes. RockPlot2D now starts in zoom rather than edit mode. Borehole Manager | Import Multiple Tables (Excel & Text) for the tables I-Data, I-Text, P-Data, P-Text, and T-Data the existing tracks will now be cleared when Replace Data is checked. Borehole Manager | Exports | ... All Tracks will now account for regional formatting (i.e. comma as a decimal separator) I-Data, I-Text, P-Data, P-Text, T-Data. Empty column values in the import are set to NULL for field values in Playlist CSV Import process. Borehole Operations Maps | Google Earth (Simple or Advanced) was giving a DB error. RockWorks allows CollarElevation to be NULL, however the function to choose the Elevation value when CollarElevation was NULL was making the field read-only. RockWorks will now allow coded Coordinate Systems (like epsg:2877) that are based in U.S. Surveyor's Feet. Upgrading a project from RW17 that uses a custom coordinate system and an "Init" style code (like epsg or esri) will succeed. The PROJ generic coordinate transformation software RockWare applies used to change how it handled "Init" parameters. 13. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: Users can now extract values from a solid model along the path of a borehole. The "speed buttons" along the left edge of the Playlist tab sheet now display the icons on the left side of the text versus the icons being positioned above the text. This decreases the likelihood that options won't be visible when the height of the Playlist tab sheet is vertically reduced. The borehole label font size that is used when plotting the index maps for profiles, sections, projected sections, and fence diagrams may now be adjusted by selecting the File / Options menu. A new option titled “Include Additional Contacts Defined Within RwDat File” has been added to the “Strat. Rules” tab that is shown within all programs that create stratigraphy models based on borehole data. A new program titled "Resample (Fine-to-Coarse)" has been added to the ModOps / Solid / Math sub-menu. This program is used to convert high-resolution solids to low-resolution solids based on a variety of options as shown below. The Borehole Operations / Lithology / 2D Isopach option now displays two options: Voxel-Based and Grid-Based. The Grid-Based option behaves just like the previous version meaning that it generates surfaces based on the uppermost and lowermost occurrences of the selected lithology and then subtracts the lower from the upper surface to create the isopach grid. The new Voxel-Based option simply adds the heights of all voxels that are equal to the designated lithotype to produce the isopach. This new approach will account for voxels in-between the uppermost and lowermost occurrences that don't equal the selected lithotype (i.e. interbeds). Improvements: The Stratigraphy Picker now has the option to snap stratigraphy to an existing lithology contact. Added the ability to extract values from a Solid Model based on XYZ points stored in a datasheet. Added a program to extract values from a grid based on XY points in a datasheet. Users can now use the Aquifer Pattern Table colors for water symbols in 2D and 3D Striplogs. Water level data can be appended to existing data, like T-Data allows. There is a check box on the block mapping tab for Water Levels to allow the user to make the choice to replace or append the data. File | Export | Stratigraphy, will now export for "All Units" or for a single Stratigraphy Unit/Type. The Lithology / 2D Isopach program no longer fits grids to the uppermost and lowermost contacts and subtracts them to produce an isopach grid. Instead, the program simply adds the heights of all voxels that are equal to the designated lithotype to produce the isopach. An option titled "Clear Output Tabs Whenever "Process Playlist" Button Is Clicked" has been added to the Playlist / Configure pull-down menu. If checked, any open output tabs will be closed before the Playlist processing begins. The result is identical to pressing the "Clear" button before pressing the "Process Playlist" button. The idea is to reduce the clutter left behind by any previous Playlist data processing. The default setting for this new option is "off". File | Export | Stratigraphy/Aquifers, will now export for "All Units" or for a single Stratigraphy Unit/Type. The unit type column was added to the output. The editor for editing a database memo field in the Borehole Manager, like the comments in Lithology, has been more streamlined. There is now an OK and Cancel button on the bottom of the editor to either save back to the database or cancel the changes. The Save button is not shown but if the user wants to write out to a text file they can still choose Save from the menu. Bug Fixes RockWorks no longer starts in the previous project if Select Project on Startup is selected on Preferences menu. The Highest Probability solid modeling algorithm now returns the correct values instead of nulls. The Fence Location dialog now updates the map when selecting locations from an XY Pair table. The Rockplot3D Window will never be opened minimized. The RockPlot2D Export to RockPlot3D now uses the transparency options for both draped and floating diagrams. RockWorks will now allow NULL values for the "Collar Elevation". This change will allow the user to not enter a value for this field. Then when RockWorks looks to use the value for Collar Elevation, if it is NULL at that time, we would use the Elevation value in its place. This gives the user the ability to set the Collar Elevation to 0.0 if they want and for 0.0 to not behave as if the user did not enter a value. If they set one of the other tables to "measure depths from the Collar" and the Collar is NULL, that borehole would use the Elevation value in its place. The update of the field to nullable now also updates SQL Server databases. GeoTIFF Import now honors "No Data" data values, converting them to the assigned grid NULL value. This true for the default "No Data" value of -32768 and when the Geo Key Directory of GDAL_NODATA is set. P-Data | Histogram by Lithology no longer causes an Access Violation error when there is no Lithology and a Lithology Unit is chosen in the LithoTypes table under diagram options. The Peripherals / Color Legend / Title may now be edited if the Title checkbox is checked. The "Average" smoothing method for non-lithology modeling menus will no longer be switched to "Classification" after the Lithology Modeling menu has been used. The Hybrid grid modeling no longer generates an Access Violation error inadvertently introduced during the previous update. The text position for IData, IText, TData, Stratigraphy Text and Lithology Text in 2D Striplogs is now honored. Project Folder | New - Creating a project based a custom coordinate system using an EPSG code no longer adds the "+init" to the parameter string (the +init was invalid). When tilting or warping I-Data, T-Data, etc. models in conjunction with superface or subface model truncation, the program no longer produces strange gaps between the model and the truncation surface. Special thanks to Alison for taking the time to illustrate the problem within a Playlist. It shaved at least a day off the de-bugging. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the latest version. 14. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: An option to perform smoothing last has been added to the solid modeling. An option has been added to the Borehole Operations / T-Data / Multiple Solids program menu that determines how the program will handle duplicate points with different g-values that have been obtained within the same sampling interval. The Horizontal and Vertical Resolution settings within the Solid Declustering menu may now be specified in map units as well as percentages of the project size. Added an option to the RockPlot2D/Export to Raster dialog to specify the output width in Inches or Centimeters. The Units and DPI options were moved from the Scale Factor Page because the DPI is used by all the Raster Exports and the Units are also used by the Width by Units. An option has been added to the Peripherals to plot Pattern Legends without the pattern lines. Import ASCII XYZG to Solid (MicroModel) can now choose the Null value to initialize the solid to and choose whether to resolve the nulls to a value from their nearest neighbor. An Include Border option has been added to the Billboard for Hydro, Production and Time-based billboard graphs. The Spatial Filtering for Z, Upper Surface and Lower Surface now apply to downhole Borehole labeling for Stratigraphy, Aquifers, I-Data and T-Data. Grid Import will import ESRI ASCII Grids that have X&Y dimensions specified to reference the Lower-Left corner of the Lower-Left cell or the center of the Lower-Left cell. Improvements: The local coordinates for the cursor are now displayed within the Grid Editor. An option to use faults for the color fill and contour lines has been added for Profiles, X-Sections and Projected Sections. The code used for generating contoured sections and profiles from solid models has been modified to provide much faster performance. Changed the calculation of line thicknesses from RockPlot2D to print, raster and PDF to provide slightly thicker lines in the output. Solid model smoothing can now be performed last to allow smoothing to include previous filters. In addition, the smoothing settings are now being set correctly for both pre and post smoothing. The Multiple RockPlot2D Files to PDF program now allow users to enter a scale for output allowing for the scaled display of unequal size diagrams in a PDF. This option will leave blank space around smaller diagrams. An option has also been added to specify output width in inches. Redesigned the menus for exporting from RockPlot2D to Raster and PDF, and Multiple Rw2D to PDF. The Image width in units and pixels are now linked to make them easier to understand and a Line Width Adjustment has been added to modify the appearance of lines in the output. The ModOps | Grid | Grid Math menu now uses the term "Grid" instead of "Model". Grid and Solid Metadata is now embedded in Rw3D files and can be viewed from the Info button that's available on the item Options dialog. The ability to save embedded grids and solids with metadata has been added. Bug Fixes Menus with Linear or density unit’s drop-down lists will read and write to the ini settings file correctly. ReportWorks Printing when scaled to the output page now correctly locates Legends and Text, and scales Line Widths. The Sector Width and Sector Height within the IDW Advanced / Closest In Sector sub-menu are now interpreted properly. Previous versions would increase the selection by one level (e.g., 30 degrees would be incremented to 45 degrees). The Grid to Flow Table program now offers Ledger Output Options instead of outputting to the Utilities Data Sheet. Printing from ReportWorks to a page with different dimensions then the document now correctly scales line widths and places text accurately. When reassigning or reprojecting the project's coordinates, the Borehole Manager units are updated with the correct label (feet/meters) The help in the Lateral Geo-Steering was not showing the second time the dialog was shown. Imported Surfer Binary grids now calculate the Y Spacing correctly. Solid | Import | ASCII file - The header was not being parsed correctly. The automatic creation of Subface and Superface grid makes sure that the grid Distance Filter is turned off to avoid unexpected solid filtering caused by the grids. Exporting color legends from RockPlot3D to SketchFab Obj now honors settings for order, label interval, scientific notation, prefix and postfix labels. Opening a RockPlot3D file in a non-project folder with associated files no longer prompts the user to find the files. The program will no longer attempt to display the model if the Cancel button is clicked when viewing a declustering report for solid modeling. In the Borehole Manager, data tabs the user may define additional fields. If the additional field is a Value List, a new button allowing editing the list became visible. This button now shows list for more than just 2 Value List fields. The T-Data / Multiple Solids program will now stop processing if an error is encountered and the user selects the Cancel option. RwGrd file created through the Map | Borehole Map program shows elevations. The Z Filter and Surface Filters in the Spatial Filter are now activated for the Borehole Map function. Users can now select the Manual setting for borehole resolution in the Preferences dialog. The Borehole Survey program now sets the origin correctly. When specifying a CRS (Coordinate Reference System) using the Other option, one can specify a pre-defined system (like espg:2229) that has linear units other than international feet or meters (U.S. Surveyors foot for espg:2229). This could introduce inaccurate results for some operations. RockWorks will now warn about this. RockWorks also looks up these units from the definitions for better reporting. 15. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: The grid and solid math menus now include options for computing the log base 10 and natural logarithms of the node values. This is a useful tool for identifying spatial relationships for data in which the majority of the values are much lower than the highest value. Layers in RockPlot2D window can now be locked from selecting to make it easier to edit dense diagrams. A new program called "Copy Files" has been added to the Utilities / Misc sub-menu. This program is used to copy a list of files (within the RockWorks Datasheet) to a designated folder. The intent is to provide a means to copy selected files to another folder, computer, server, or FTP site. The Grid and Solid Range Filters now allow null values to be filtered and replaced. When an error is encountered while processing a Playlist, the error message dialog now provides a new option to cancel the process rather than continuing with the Playlist processing or closing/restarting the program. The Enable and Disable buttons within the Playlist now have small black arrows along the right side of the button that will display additional options for enabling/disabling all of the options above or below the currently highlighted item within the Playlist. These new options are also available within the View option at the top of the Playlist as well as the popup menu that appears if the user right-clicks within the list. Improvements: The Multiple RockPlot2D to PDF Export options now includes Pattern Scaling options. Added a command to the Playlist to reset the project settings to their default values. Added Map Options to the RockPlot2D Shape File Import, so that Borders, Labeled Axes, etc. can be specified directly in the Shape file import. Improved the RockPlot3D export of text in Wavefront Obj files for Sketchfab. Additionally, added a text scalar option. The Geobody Filter program is now several orders of magnitude faster than the previous version. Seconds versus hours faster. "Geobodies" represent clusters of connected voxels that fall within a user-specified g-value range. A typical application involves the identification of "hydraulic communication" based on filtered hydraulic conductivity data. RockWorks will use the materials table to define drawing order for Well Construction striplogs. Bug Fixes The Polygon List / Grid program no longer offers a Point Map Overlay which could cause error messages. 2D Faults when intersected with a grid are no longer terminated by null values or the border of the grid. The processing of a Playlist is now terminated if the Cancel button has been clicked. The actual termination will not occur until after the active item is finished processing. The "active" item is defined as the item that was being processed when the Cancel button was clicked. In addition, the user will now be asked to confirm the cancellation if the Cancel button is clicked. Polygon Clipping is no longer applied to automatically generated grids for Subface and Superface Clipping surfaces since it caused Polygon Clipping to fail. Profiles that cross a fault more than once now show all fault intersections. Grid | Import | Bitmap (Raster Image) - will now honor the Input Coordinate settings and properly crop the image down to the Project Dimensions. Utilities - Statistics | Histograms, honors minimum/maximum filters for both the statistics and the histogram. The algorithm that determines if a point is inside or outside a polygon no longer sporadically and incorrectly identifies points (e.g., grid cells, solid voxels) as being inside or outside the polygon. 16. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with many new features, improvements, and bug fixes. No rest for the programmers! The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: The ModOps | Volume | Ore Grid program now includes options for specifying the classification terminology that is used within the Geologic Resource and Economic Reserves reports (e.g. Measured vs. Proven, Probable vs. Indicated). Eleven new symbols have been added to the raster symbol library. The names of the grid files used to generate a RockPlot3D surface are now shown within the data "tree" along the left side of the RockPlot3D dialog. Users can now copy a data object in the RockPlot3D scene and paste it into scene as a duplicate object. A new option titled "Manual Labeling" has been added to the Peripherals | Color Legend sub-menu The ModOps | Solid menu contains a new program titled “Paper Solid”, used to create images that can be cut, folded, and glued to create three-dimensional paper models. Added the option to filter/select boreholes by Well Construction. This could be useful when selecting wells that have Screened intervals, or Monitoring wells. The Add Points option that was available within RockWorks17 has been reinstated to the Solid Model Special Options menu. A number of new infrastructure objects/parameters have been implemented: Pit, Depth, Height Multiplier, Opacity. You can now sort by date within the datasheet. Data in the column that cannot be converted to a date will cause that row to be sorted to the bottom. Improvements: Gridding Options: You can now specify the replacement value for nodes that are clipped via the Polygon option. Borehole Manager | File | Export | P/T/I-data | All Tracks: Now have Spatial filter (and Time). The Setup | Preferences | Warnings menu offers disabling of Web Browser error messages. The color scheme menu that is used for plotting 2D grid contours, 3D grid surfaces, and 3D block models now has options for using the existing lithology and stratigraphy types tables The Solid Layer -> Grid program now includes options that define the direction of the vertical slices (e.g. west to east versus east to west). Legends are now included with the Wavefront Obj (Sketchfab) export in RockPlot3D. Non-applicable options are no longer displayed within the Solid Model Special Options menu based on the currently selected algorithm. Options have been added for saving and retrieving the configuration of the Multi-Range Color Table Maker, making it easier to share with other projects. Setup - Preferences | User Interface: User may turn off Show Hints separately from the Abstracts. An option to reuse an existing RockPlot3D window has been added to the Save tab of the Output 3D form. RockPlot3D now stores and uses relative file paths for images, making it easier to transfer projects. Bug Fixes Borehole Manager | File | Import | Kansas Geological Survey - Fixed an error importing TD. Custom Colors are remembered more readily between different color drop-downs on the same page and from session to session. The Interpolate Outliers option for Lithology Models now is applied. Spurious 2D contours are no longer drawn within flat regions. Importing Shape files that have polylines with multiple parts into the RockWorks Datasheet now retrieves the correct record for each point. When installing a new build of RockWorks the settings for Coordinates | Decimals were being saved from the defaults for the screen controls before they were read from the ini file. The early saving has been circumvented, the screen control's defaults changed. The Inverse-Distance-Weighting Isotropic algorithm can now model negative values. Numerous fixes to the Delete key handling. If a person was set to use local help and they downloaded the latest version of RockWorks, it will now unpack correctly. Borehole Manager - File | Backup Database: if Quickmap is active then an Access Violation error is no longer raised. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the the latest version. 17. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with many new features, improvements, and bug fixes. We've been busy! The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features Point symbol maps, borehole location maps, stereonet maps now offer raster symbols in addition to the standard RockWorks vector symbols. They can be uniform, column-based, or table-based. Raster symbol capabilities have been added to many other programs as well: 3-D | SpherePlot | 2D Spherical – Point 3-D | SpherePlot | 2D Cylindrical – Points Planes | Stereonet Stats | Scattergram Stats | Ternary Raster symbols are a new graphic type in RockPlot3D Added new table type "Raster Symbol Range" to Map/Models Tables. Data Dictionary version increased to 37. A new menu option titled "Traverse Defined By ..." has been added to all of the programs that create sections. If the "Interactive Map" setting is selected, these programs behave just like the used to, meaning that the section location is selected via the Section Location tab at the top of the menu. The new "List ..." options provide a way to define the sections based on ASCII text files that contain either a list of Borehole IDs or XY coordinates. Users can now generate vertical scales for profiles and sections using depth below a Datum. Vertical axis annotations for sections and profiles permit different left and right axis settings. For example, one axis might display elevation and the other depth from a datum. You can block copy the settings from one axis to the other Vertical axis annotations for sections and profiles include a new Vertical Offset setting which allows for "fine-tuning" the endpoint label positions. The Lithology | Solid Model | 3D Solid Diagram | Block Diagram | Filter now includes an option to select a given lithology (based on the Lithology Table) and use its G-Value to set the Minimum and Maximum Visible G-Value settings. This eliminates the hassle of switching back to the Lithology Table to look up the G-Value for a unit of interest. A new program titled "Drape Grid" has been added to the ModOps | Grid menu. This program will create a 3D color contour map in which the elevations are based on an “elevation grid” while the colors are based on a different grid (e.g., geochemistry). A new program titled "Multivariate Grid Map" has been added to the ModOps | Grid menu. This program will use two to five grid models to create multivariate pie chart or star burst maps in which the size of an individual slice or petal represents the average cell value from the associated grid within the vicinity of the diagram A new program titled "Grid Math" has been added to the ModOps | Grid | Math sub-menu. It consolidates the previous Grid & Constant, Grid & Grid, Add Multiple Grids, Multiply Multiple Grids, Absolute Grid, and Grid Sieve programs (which have been moved to the Utilities | Misc. | Obsolete menu to provide backward-compatibility with older versions of RockWorks Playlists.) A new program titled "Solid Math" has been added to the ModOps | Solid | Math sub-menu. It consolidates the previous Solid & Constant and Solid & Solid programs (which have been moved to the new Utilities | Misc. | Obsolete menu to provide backward-compatibility with older versions of RockWorks Playlists.)A new program titled "Solid & Grid" has been added to the ModOps | Solid | Math sub-menu. This program is used to perform mathematical operations on a solid model based on corresponding grid values. A new “Coal” tutorial case study project folder has been added to the RockWorks Data folder. This project folder includes a PDF (Coal Evaluation Case Study Using the RockWorks Playlist) that describes the example Playlist which processes a RockWorks datasheet with 583 boreholes in order to identify the areas in which three coal seams meet a variety of criteria including overburden thickness, interburden thickness, BTU, sulfur, and ash. A new program titled “HTML Builder” has been added to the Misc pulldown menu. This program creates an HTML file based on a list of images and image captions. The intended purpose of this program is to provide a means for organizing and concatenating all of the images that are generated by a RockWorks Playlist into a file that can be displayed within a web browser or edited within Microsoft Word to produce a final report. The RW17 Fault Contours to Fault Surface program has been added to RW20 and modified to Import the fault contours to a 3D fault in the Fault table. Added Project_Cmd to be able to set the project in the Playlist or a command script. Improvements The Playlist shows which step is being processed. The RockWorks20 installer includes the Microsoft Visual C++ The "Loading" menu that appears when an application menu is being loaded now displays a gauge that shows the loading process. A similar gauge is also displayed within the Playlist when an item is being saved. The Geobody program includes options for specifying cutoff volumes in terms of project units (e.g. cubic meters) and displaying a message if none of the geobodies exceeds the threshold. The Borehole Manager | Edit | Adjust Elevations From Grid program provides options for setting the collar elevation to the new ground surface elevation, for offsetting the existing collar elevations based on the ground elevation changes, and for not adjusting the Collar elevations at all. The maximum Vertical Exaggeration within the 3D diagram Export menu has been changed from 10 to 9999. Items in RockPlot3D can now be offset in the X and Y directions as well as Z. It is now possible to specify directions between -360 and +360 degrees when specifying the offset direction for parallel profiles. The Utilities | Maps | Lineations/Arrows program now includes color options for the endpoint labels. The Datasheet | Filter | Remove Disabled program is now orders of magnitude faster and the screen doesn't incessantly flicker during the process. Imports into the Datasheet automatically assigns the input filename as the Datasheet filename (with .rwDat extension). If this filename already exists in the folder the user will be prompted for a new name. Text, CSV and Excel Datasheet imports allow the setting of datasheet column types and units. These new settings are stored in the ini file and can be set/edited in a Playlist Since the improvement in the Datasheet import of CSV files allowed multiple lines and quotation marks in a field, The Save and Open a datasheet will now also allow these improvements. A number of changes have been made to the ModOps | Grid | Import | Bitmap program, including importing large GeoTIFF images, crop the data to the project dimensions, rescale the image pixels to the project dimensions cell size, accommodate image dimensions in a corresponding World file that are expressed in a different coordinate system. ModOps - Solid | Filters | Tunnel Clipping and Borehole Clipping now accept (and default to) the RockWorks null value. The ModOps | Solid | Edit - As Block Model program is no longer limited to 100 points when defining the vertices of a replacement polyhedron. Bug Fixes When selecting a profile or section points the user can have an image as a background to assist in selecting the points. (File | Options | Project Image Options) Draped images in RockPlot3D now clip the image when the image location is larger than the grid it's draped on. The Graphics | 2D Tools | Export | PDF | Single/Multiple program can add to Playlist with the Add to Playlist button. The ModOps | Solid | Extract Grids | Solid -> Total Ore Grid now accommodates solids that have null values. The Delete key now works on blocks of cells in the RockWorks Datasheet. ModOps | Grid | Drape grid, works with Custom Color Tables, honors assigned table name. Borehole Operations | Lithology | Multi-variate Map will now honor the Use Existing Model Option. Datasheet | File | Import | Excel, CSV and Text was freezing or reported a pointer error when defining column types and units. Importing into the datasheet from a text file with no header, no longer takes the first row as a title. The first row will appear as the first row in the Datasheet. Running a command script (RwCmd) from the command line or Windows File Explorer no longer causes RockWorks to load without any docked forms. In addition the command script will now be processed automatically. ModOps | Solid | Logic | Mass Calc: Missing parameter for density conversion has been added. ModOps | Solid | Extract Grids | Solid Layer -> Grid now uses the correct orietation. The color fill contours in Cross Sections and Profiles now honor the faults that are enabled in the Fault table. RockPlot2D no longer exports layers that are inactive to RockPlot3D. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. 18. A new version of RockWorks2020 was uploaded to the RockWare website yesterday, with many new features, improvements, and bug fixes. New Features and Improvements RockWorks can now import 5 meter DEM's. Be aware that they create huge (>1.5M node) grids so plotting will be slow. The processing of 3D animations has been sped up by about 30%.. Changed the memory display colors for 0-25% to white text on a red background. Dates will now be saved in US format MM/DD/YEAR (i.e. 7/22/2020) for Ini, Play list and command script files. Shape file import will now read the Shape file's Projection and Coordinate Reference System (prg file). Date Format and Date Separator in the Datasheet work with 'Date' Type columns and programs that use dates. Bug Fixes Striplogs | 2D Striplog: Plot vertical with elevations for deviated holes now show correct elevations for the corresponding measured depth. Map Overlays - Prefix and Suffix prompts are wider, a consistent 100 pixels. Google Earth functions have been hidden on the Subsite dialog as they use the Project's values and not the Subsite's. Tweaked several 3D Log Design Designer Options to scroll better on a smaller screens. Draped images can now be displayed in RockPlot3D without error. The RockPlot3D export to DXF no longer has a limit on the number of entities. Declustering for Solid Models now more closely matches the user suggested spacing. When defining the labeling options for symbols, the Opaque Background setting is no longer dependent upon the Enclosing Background setting The Solid and Grids Filter now handles nulls in the grids. Double clicking on a file in the WIndow's File Explorer now opens the file even if RockWorks is already running. The Grids To Stratigraphic layers program now runs. Playlists that modify the Datasheet no longer cause a "Cannot Focus a Disabled Window" error. Total Nodes and Grid Area are calculated and shown in Grid Statistics report. 2D Grid Map | Peripherals showing the North Arrow and not showing the pattern key adjusted for Grid math items. Aquifer legend removed from ModOps - Grid | Directional | Flow Path Map We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. 19. A new version of RockWorks2020 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with loads of new features, improvements, and bug fixes. New Features and Improvements The user can draw a rectangle in RockPlot2D, and the select it with a right click to update the project dimensions. (Rectangle Attributes, Location tab, Set Output Dimensions button) A Null replacement value has been added an option to the Grid Model --> Boolean and Solid Model --> Boolean programs. Users can now move the anchor point of Anchor Text in RockPlot2D. Users can load dimensions from an existing subsite (Subsite_Cmd). A quick way to add this command to the Playlist is from the Subsite Dialog (last item in the Subsite drop down list - "Edit Subsites"). From that dialog there is a "RCL" menu item , which has options to "Add to Playlist" and "Export to a RwCmd file". The RockPlot2D Manual Pattern Scaling can now be applied to all diagrams. Map, Section and Profiles are based on the Project Dimensions. Charts use the diagram dimensions. The Float Images in Google Earth now force a rotation so that the images are in the view. Added a vertical scroll bar to the Vertical and Horzontal Axis options for Profiles, Sections and Projected Sections so that all options can be seen and adjusted. Borehole Manager | Import Raster Logs, you can now select multiple files for import. The import is more forgiving when the tiff file is no longer in the original folder. A vertical divider bar (to be moved left/right) has been added to the 2D Log Design window, so that the visible items pane can be expanded. Added scroll bars to the Georeference dialog. LoadDimensions_Cmd and SaveDimensions_Cmd will work from Playlists and scripts. Example: PROJECT DIM_FILE Default_Project_Dimensions.rwDim Bug Fixes Stratigraphy and Lithology Fence diagrams now honor the position setting for Legends. All of the PLSS data input fields in the Borehole Manager trigger saving to the database when edited. Default filename extension for input solids changed to RwMod, was RwGrd. The "Create New Solid Model" option now uses the user specified name. Playlist Load and Save Datasheet behave more as expected. The Inclined Surface option for Solid and Grid(s) Filter is now created correctly. ModOps - Grid | Filters | Polygon Clip was freeing the polystream twice causing a Invalid Pointer. Grid filter tools were missing the color legend option When inserting a new borehole, the "Other Coordinate Projections" data is now posted with the rest of the entered borehole data. The project dimensions could get the number of nodes set to zero and saved when the values were edited such that the Minimum exceeded the Maximum. The check on the values is now being done before saving. When scanning boreholes from the Subsite dialog, the Subsite dialog is now being updated, not the Dimensions tab in RockWorks. Also the Dimensions tab is updated when Scan Boreholes is called from the Search Dialog. Hydrology and Borehole Operations - Aquifers: Hydrograph tools (Hydrograph, Hydrograph map and Hydrograph billbords) work. Graphics - Images | Geo-reference - 3D Display default was changed to Float instead of Drape. Graphics - 2D Tools | Export | ReportWorks: will now prompt to save on close. The Solid and Grid(s) Filter now uses the correct surface type instead of defaulting to grid surfaces. The Solid and Grid(s) Filter no longer causes an Access Violation when grid surfaces are selected. Google Earth programs that output disks, tubes, centered images and text were not calculating sizes correctly. Re-projecting just the Z values now works. RockPlot2D previews are now saved when the Rw2D files are saved whether the diagram is displayed or not. Fixed vertical divider bar in the Application Search dialog. A RW15 input grid model is converted only once when both a 2D map and 3D diagram output are requested via the Grid | Display program. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the the latest version. 20. A new version of RockWorks2020 was uploaded to the RockWare website yesterday, with a lot of changes: New Features The Output Options / Export sub-menu now includes an option for exporting the output directly to PDF. The Opacity of Colored Intervals within 2D output may now be adjusted such that features below the contour map (e.g. airphotos) may be identified. The Striplogs page within the Graphics / Animate / Solid -> 3D Animation and Solid -> 3D IsoShell Animation program menus now includes an option titled "T-Data Only". If selected, striplogs within the animations will be filtered such that only the logs with T-Data that was sampled during the model date interval will be shown. A new program titled "Depth to Target" has been added to the ModOps / Solid / Solid -> Grid sub-menu in RockWorks2020. Given a ground surface grid model and a solid model, this program will create and display a grid that represents the depth to either the largest solid node value or the depth to the shallowest node within a specified range. An option titled "Constrain" has been added to the Solid Options sub-menu. This new tool will use the specified boolean model (the "constraining model") to determine which nodes will be interpolated during the subsequent modeling process. Specifically, nodes will not be interpolated for voxels in which the corresponding node within the constraining boolean model has a value of zero (false). Constraining models are useful for limiting geochemical models to regions defined by other parameters such as permeability. Improvements All programs that read data from the Datasheet will now skip any data that contains a null (-1.0e27) value. If the Drape option is used as an embellishment for any 3D diagram, and the grid that the image is to be draped over has not been specified, the following error message will appear: RockPlot2D now loads quicker and with less flickering in the Launch Form. DXF exports from RockPlot3D now use True Colors and support vertical exaggeration. Collada Export is exported in meters. Coordinate system has to be set but does not have to be in decimal degrees. The Depth-to-Target program now provides for a minimum G-Value when computing the depth to maximum G-Value. This eliminates background-levels from consideration. In addition, a color legend may now be added to the output. The maximum number of cutoff levels has been increased from three to six within the Display as IsoShells, Solids -> 3D IsoShell Animations, Time-Based Volumetrics programs in RockWorks2020 When generating IsoShell animations, empty models will generate a warning message rather than an error message. This prevents the process from disrupting a long Playlist process. Cosmetic An explanatory diagram has been added to the new Solid Modeling / Options / Constrain page. The Output Options menu for programs that generate 3D diagrams has been redesigned to be consistent with the Output Options menu for 2D diagrams. The notice/reminder that appears within the Striplogs page no longer appears behind the clipping parameters menu. The TCE Site Playlist has been modified to accommodate the new solid modeling Constrain option and the changes to the Multiple Solids (aka TimeMachine) program. The Multiple Solids help message and abstract have also been modified accordingly. The default width of the dialog box that appears when renaming a RockWorks2020 Playlist item has been increased to 800 pixels to allow for longer descriptions. Ampersands (&) are now displayed within the Grid2DipSymMap, RuColMultiFilt, SolidGridFilter, Vpanels, and Vpanels2Xyzg program titles and/or descriptions. Arrows symbols are no longer preceded by hyphens within the Pgon, R2d2Mif, R2d2Pdf, and R2DtoReportworks programs titles and/or descriptions. Bug Fixes DXF exports from RockPlot3D now correctly place polylines at their correct elevation. Restored the upper tabs for P-Data Fence diagrams. The Optimize column layout for the datasheet now honors the Preferences setting. Improved the accuracy of coordinates in RockPlot3D. Draped images now align correctly with the grid dimensions. The Animate / Solids -> 3D animation program now uses the specified color scheme. The margin and line width are now honored in RockPlot2D exports to raster images. Items within the Playlist that use custom color tables will no longer alter other items that use custom color tables if the item is edited. The Playlist / Add / Project Dimensions option now works correctly. Items that are edited within the Playlist no longer change the settings within the corresponding application within the main menu bar. Modifying a Slice Position for Solid Models in RockPlot3D (RW2020) using the mouse on the slider bar now updated the position in the title of the Slice Options dialog. Double ampersands (&&) within program descriptions are now shown as single ampersands when adding items to the Playlist. The Vertex Table options within the Graphics / 2D Tools / Enclosing Polygon program in RockWorks2020 now have check-boxes to determine how the vertices will be saved. Documentation The RockWorks2020 TCE Site Playlist and PDF have been adjusted to reflect the recent changes to the IsoShell cutoff levels within the program. A PDF file titled "Time-Based Modeling, Analysis & Visualization" is now included within the TCE Site folder for RockWorks2020. This paper is intended to serve as a step-by-step tutorial for using the Playlist to model, visualize, and analyze a TCE groundwater contaminant that is migrating over time. Abstracts have been added to a number of menu options. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the the latest version. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program.
