  1. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: Bug Fix + Fixed a problem in which the program's validation of the unlocking or extension code was preventing activation of the license. Users would see an error “The activation code is incorrect. Please check your typing. (-1)” Note that this affects licensing of the software only. If your license is already activated and you updated the program last week (2018.11.29) there is no need to download this revision. 3. I am then trying to make an isopach 2D map and when I generate it it shows up blank. Im not sure if maybe the values I have input would not generate such a thing or maybe on the Excel tab 'lith type' I have messed up the colors that could be used?
  4. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: Improvements + The bulk import for LAS files into the Borehole Manager will now handle LAS version 3.0 files. The bulk import will now allow a filter for depths, NULL conversions and decimation of data. + LAS files (Version 3.0) can be imported into the Utilities datasheet. The options have been expanded to allow NULL conversions and decimation of data. These two improvements will only import Log/Curve data. Other sections allowed in the LAS version 3.0 specification are ignored for these imports. They can be imported via the single file import in the Borehole Manager. + Stratigraphy legends now use the background color for the pattern when "Background Colors" are turned off, so that they match unfilled section panels. + RockPlot2D is now using GDI+ for displaying transparent images and images with a transparent color. + Added an option to the Vertical Panels to Color Model and Vertical Panels to X/Y/Z/Color to sample by distance instead of pixels. + Improved the drawing quality and speed of raster images in 2D Strip Logs. These changes can be seen anywhere that 2D Strip Logs are plotted (e.g. Cross Sections, Profiles, Stratigraphy Picker, etc.). Bug Fixes + Fixed an issue when running RCL files that displaying 2D graphics caused an Invalid Pointer error. + Fixed a problem in which the Borehole Manager Check Data Integrity menu option would display an OS Function error if the error list output to HTML was too big to be displayed in the RockWorks browser component. + The path for the Constraining Surface was being removed if the grid file was in a different folder than the project. + Fixed an Access Violation in the Projected Section EZ contouring (Striplog menu). To download this build, use the Help | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks17. 5. A customer recently emailed us saying that his IT group was getting their SQL Server set up and figuring out his access to the server through the firewall. He inquired: Can you tell me if RockWorks users need full admin rights on the computer it is installed on or just power user / Win10 equivalent? Here is our short answer: No, users do not need Admin rights to run the RockWorks17 program. Long answer: While Admin rights are not necessary to run the program, RockWorks - when connecting to a SQL Server - does require the ability to Create, Read, Update, and Delete records in the SQL server database. This level of permission is established through permissions on the SQL Server side, not in RockWorks. Note that if you don't have permission to create new fields in the database, which is higher than the "CRUD" permissions above, that is generally ok except when we update the data dictionaries. This could cause problems when you install an update for RockWorks. But there is a work-around for this - you can activate a setting in the database connection window in RockWorks17 for the SQL Server to "Generate a SQL Script File without executing it" for these cases. Then just give the script file to the network Admin to run, and it then the necessary fields will be added to the SQL Server database. Molly Mayfield RockWare Support
  6. When plotting correlation lines for Stratigraphy, if the corresponding well log does not have a matching geology unit the correlation line forms a point and plots back to the originating log. See the attached graphic for an example of this behavior. Is there a setting or method to tell rockworks to not draw this line when no corresponding segment exists in the adjacent log? section.bmp
  7. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: New Features + RockWorks will now import LAS (Log ASCII standard) version 3.0 into the database. The Reader will still read previous versions 1.2 and 2.0. + You can now add a scalebar to your RockPlot3D scenes, at the top or bottom of the view. You can also specify a vertical and horizontal offset. Improvements + If RockWorks cannot load a project image, it will display a more informative message for the user. + Implemented code to protect against importing text longer than the database field size for Types Tables Fixes + The Stratigraphy Grids to Logs program now saves the correct grid-based values to the database rather than the original values + Fixed a problem causing a FireDAC error message that would occur when importing data from archived text files + Fixed a problem with Section/Fence location maps in projects with mixed X-Y / Elevation-Depth (meters v feet) units + Stratigraphy rules are improved for projects with mixed X-Y / Elevation-Depth (meters v feet) units To download this build, use the Help | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks17. The user can specify either a fixed collar elevation or use a surface grid to find the elevations. The new boreholes are automatically named with a "PG" plus a number. + Points and Lines digitized in RockPlot3D can now be exported to the database as boreholes. + A new Solid model Polygon filter that uses polygons in RockPlot2D has been added. This allows filtering using multiple polygons. + Polygon Filtering during Modeling can now use multiple polygons from with a RockPlot2D file. + The RockPlot2D files used for the Polygon Filter can now be in a different coordinate system than the Project's output. Enhancements + The 2D Striplog Fracture and Vector columns can now plot the tadpoles with the color in the table. + The Stratigraphy and Lithology Pickers now allow negative depths. + The Grids -> Strat program now makes sure that the paired grids share the same dimensions. Bug Fixes + Quickmap now shows the selected borehole when the input and output units don't match. + Quickmap now shows the border when the input and output units don't match. + Dimensions -> Google Earth will display in the correct place when the project is in feet + The Stratigraphy Picker now shows the entire cross section when units have depths below TD and/or above KB. + The Stratigraphy Picker wasn't drawing units with depths below 999 units. + A user may delete a field in a SQLite RW17 database. SQLite does not allow multiple transaction levels. + Only 3D Fault options will be displayed for Stratigraphic Fence diagrams. + Fixed a problem with the Catmull-Rom spline calculation for 3D Curve Ribbon that cause some lines to appear bumpy. + The Stratigraphic 3D Isopach program wasn't producing any output. + The RockPlot3D Surface filter sliders now update the minimum/maximum values correctly. + The Plot Faults option for Stratigraphic Models was sometimes being ignored. + World Outline transparency settings are now stored and loaded correctly. To download this build, use the Help | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks17. Or visit our website and click on the RockWorks Free Trial tab: https://www.rockware.com/product/rockworks/#product_inquire_form_1494_tab where you can download the installation program and install the new build right over the top of the existing program. 16. A new version of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: + Added 2 additional stock animations to the RockPlot3D Video export, for rotations around the model's Z axis. + In the 2D Striplog I-Text was not correctly centered if the font angle wasn't Horizontal, Vertical or Diagonal. + The Projection Data stored in the grid and solid models now shows the units (meters vs feet) and excludes information about projections that aren't being used. + The Block Model Grade Statistics by Level program was calculating volumes using the Data Input units instead of the units of the solid model. + In the 2D Striplog the Zero Thickness Expand thickness value wasn't being saved. + The Utilities / Survey / XYZ --> Optimum Path / Plot 3D Path wasn't outputting a diagram. + Imported Surfer Binary grids now calculate the Y Spacing correctly. + Improvements to using the Help as local files: The help was not shown correctly if the computer did not have an Internet connection. The Test function in the Preferences menu was not using the correct path to the files. Also the Test function will extract the files immediately in order to test them. The help Zip file contains folder references, so the path to the help files in the preferences excludes "WebHelp" and refers to folder where WebHelp is to be installed and used. When a new Help Zip file is included in the installation and the user is using the local help, the zip file extraction is executed earlier in the RockWorks start up process to avoid file sharing problems. This does add some extra time for RockWorks to start when a new zip file is included. + Import and Export of Multiple tables Import and Export of Multiple tables were not consistent in the use of computer settings. RockWorks will now save and restore backups internally using US format settings. This allows sharing the archive files between computers with different format settings. Users manually creating or adding to the file will need to be aware of this specially for floating point numbers and dates. When a project table has a single quotation mark (') (as in Section A-A') the import will now import it. Some Unicode characters in field names caused the import to not find query parameters, causing the import to fail. + Reportworks Improvements: The background grid in Reportworks is now drawn correctly when the units are set to centimeters. The background grid in Reportworks is now set to 2 centimeters when set for centimeters. In Reportworks the coordinates for the Line and Rectangle dialog are now shown and can be modified by the user. In the Reportworks Line dialog buttons have been added to make the line Vertical or Horizontal. To download this build, use the Help | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks17. 18. A customer, new to RockWorks17, saw the following error when the program first launched, as it was trying to load the Samples database: Could not open the database. Error loading MIDAS.DLL This error prevented the program from launching. This DLL is used by the RockWorks database. We install it along with the program into the RockWorks17 program directory (C:\Program Files\RockWare\RockWorks17 [64-bit version] or C:\Program Files (x86)\RockWare\RockWorks17 [32-bit]). It had been our understanding and our experience that the DLL local to the program calling it would be used. On this customer's Windows10 system, this was definitely not the case. After he confirmed that this DLL was indeed installed in the RockWorks17 program folder, we then had him search the Windows Registry on his computer for other occurrences of "MIDAS.DLL". There were two, and they referenced file locations that did not exist on his computer or network. He ran a registry cleaner which presumably removed these orphaned references, and then RockWorks17 launched successfully. Happy ending! Molly Mayfield RockWare Inc.
  19. A customer submitted a support issue for his RockWorks17 project, in which he was trying to create a Section diagram through his solid model with striplogs included. He had imported a very detailed polyline into the XY Coordinate Table - LOTS of vertices - to serve as the section trace. In the output diagram, at about a third of the way along the cross section, the logs started 'stacking up' at one location, resulting in the P-Data panels to the right displaying ok, but with no logs. The problem was best solved by using the P-Data | Projected Section diagram, in which the logs are not restricted to plot at panel edges; they are projected perpendicularly onto the panels instead. This is actually what the Projected Section diagrams were designed for - to eliminate the need to draw hole-to-hole section traces when the desired section polyline runs along a roadway, pipe, or similar, and those locations (typically imported into the RockWorks database) might be quite detailed. The problem was also solved for regular Sections by turning on the Snap feature in the Section Selection Map window before importing the section vertices. This pre-processes the section polyline such that logs can be assigned to panel junctions without confusion. Molly M RockWare Inc

  21. A new version of RockWorks17 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following new features, improvements, and bug fixes. New Features: T-Data can now be displayed within the EZ-Section correlations. It is now possible to save the scene dimensions within RockPlot3D thereby allowing for the viewing of scene subsets. The Drape and Rectify programs can now drape an image over a selected portion of a grid. Note: The selected rectangle must be within the grid. Uniform and Circular symbols within the symbol maps may now be color-coded based on a cold (purple) to hot (red) color scheme. Lots of changes to the Stratigraphy Picker and Lithology Picker programs: + These programs now include a horizontal strip at the top of the cross-section that shows the borehole titles. This new feature solves a problem of scrolling down the logs and losing track of which logs are being displayed. It also eliminates the need to include the log titles within the Striplog Designer and the large offsets that can occur between the log titles and the log body when using vertical exaggerations. + They are now non-modal, meaning that the user may now access the main RockWorks dialog while these programs are running. + The three main work panels within the Stratigraphy Picker and the Lithology Picker are now “dockable”, meaning that they can be detached from the main form by dragging the stippled pattern within their title bars. As a consequence, they can me moved to other screens, resized, etc. When these sub-forms are dragged over the main form, small icons will appear to assist with the repositioning of the sub-forms within the main form. + Clicking on the docked panel within the new Stratigraphy and Lithology picker programs will now undock the panel. + Clicking on the Close button within floating panel will now reset the layout. + A Reset button has been added to the Picker programs to restore the original startup layout. + The Zoom, Vertical Exaggeration, and Decimal Place options within the Picker programs now include spin buttons. + The Zoom, Vertical Exaggeration, and Decimal Place options within the Picker programs are now saved between sessions. + The New button within the Stratigraphy and Lithology picker programs no longer returns the user to the main menu. Instead, the user may now select different boreholes and change other options and resume the process without restarting the process from the main menu. Improvements: Importing a Multi-Table text file into the Borehole Database no longer defaults to Local Meters if the units aren’t specified within the text file. Instead, the program now defaults to the current project units if the units aren’t specified within the text file. The Visible Menus options within the basic license now include the Borehole Manager Map and Strip Log menus. The EZ-Section correlation panels now all use the same min/max values when computing the color scheme. The new Color Legend option now works with I-Data, P-Data, and T-Data EZ-Section correlations. Bug Fixes: The Image Rectify, Image to Map, and other programs that save a raster image to a RockPlot2D diagram now set the corner point coordinates correctly. The Convert Solid to Grid algorithm now calculates the most frequently occuring points correctly. The Solid to GWV (GroundWater Vistas) Zone Matrix output has been fixed. The I-Data Fill options within the 2D Log Designer are now correctly saved. The P-Data Fill options within the 2D Log Designer are now correctly saved. The Utilities | Map | 3D Points program no longer generates a "Could not convert variant ..." error. The Utilities | Hydrology | Flowlines program no longer generates a "Could not convert variant ..." error. Draped images now show the correct colors within RockPlot3D. The State Plane Index map now properly lists Florida zone 903. The Delete View option within RockPlot3D is now visible. Images are now plotted in the correct location when draping a RockPlot3D drawing with Peripheral Images. Creating line or color contours with a faulted grid that contains null values will no longer cause the program to lock-up (infinite loop) when the null nodes correspond with the fault zone.
