  1. The Midas.dll error can occur when RockWorks20xx is launched. It is caused by the midas.dll file not being properly registered. To correct that follow the steps below. Close RockWorks. Open up a command prompt by selecting the windows button + R at the same time. Type cmd into the Run window like the screenshot below which will bring up the command prompt window. On the first line after C:\Users\Username type (or copy and paste) in: cd "c:\program files\rockware\rockworks20\" and hit Enter. That should bring up a second command line starting with c:\Program Files\Rockware\Rockworks20\ and after that type (or copy and paste) in: regsvr32 midas.dll and hit Enter. A window should then pop up saying: DllRegisterServer in midas.dll succeeded. Below is a screenshot of what this should roughly look like. If the error persists, users have found that running a registry cleaner solves the problem, presumably by removing conflicting references to the DLL. Molly Mayfield RockWare Inc
  2. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with many new features, improvements, and bug fixes. No rest for the programmers! The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features: The ModOps | Volume | Ore Grid program now includes options for specifying the classification terminology that is used within the Geologic Resource and Economic Reserves reports (e.g. Measured vs. Proven, Probable vs. Indicated). Eleven new symbols have been added to the raster symbol library. The names of the grid files used to generate a RockPlot3D surface are now shown within the data "tree" along the left side of the RockPlot3D dialog. Users can now copy a data object in the RockPlot3D scene and paste it into scene as a duplicate object. A new option titled "Manual Labeling" has been added to the Peripherals | Color Legend sub-menu The ModOps | Solid menu contains a new program titled “Paper Solid”, used to create images that can be cut, folded, and glued to create three-dimensional paper models. Added the option to filter/select boreholes by Well Construction. This could be useful when selecting wells that have Screened intervals, or Monitoring wells. The Add Points option that was available within RockWorks17 has been reinstated to the Solid Model Special Options menu. A number of new infrastructure objects/parameters have been implemented: Pit, Depth, Height Multiplier, Opacity. You can now sort by date within the datasheet. Data in the column that cannot be converted to a date will cause that row to be sorted to the bottom. Improvements: Gridding Options: You can now specify the replacement value for nodes that are clipped via the Polygon option. Borehole Manager | File | Export | P/T/I-data | All Tracks: Now have Spatial filter (and Time). The Setup | Preferences | Warnings menu offers disabling of Web Browser error messages. The color scheme menu that is used for plotting 2D grid contours, 3D grid surfaces, and 3D block models now has options for using the existing lithology and stratigraphy types tables The Solid Layer -> Grid program now includes options that define the direction of the vertical slices (e.g. west to east versus east to west). Legends are now included with the Wavefront Obj (Sketchfab) export in RockPlot3D. Non-applicable options are no longer displayed within the Solid Model Special Options menu based on the currently selected algorithm. Options have been added for saving and retrieving the configuration of the Multi-Range Color Table Maker, making it easier to share with other projects. Setup - Preferences | User Interface: User may turn off Show Hints separately from the Abstracts. An option to reuse an existing RockPlot3D window has been added to the Save tab of the Output 3D form. RockPlot3D now stores and uses relative file paths for images, making it easier to transfer projects. Bug Fixes Borehole Manager | File | Import | Kansas Geological Survey - Fixed an error importing TD. Custom Colors are remembered more readily between different color drop-downs on the same page and from session to session. The Interpolate Outliers option for Lithology Models now is applied. Spurious 2D contours are no longer drawn within flat regions. Importing Shape files that have polylines with multiple parts into the RockWorks Datasheet now retrieves the correct record for each point. When installing a new build of RockWorks the settings for Coordinates | Decimals were being saved from the defaults for the screen controls before they were read from the ini file. The early saving has been circumvented, the screen control's defaults changed. The Inverse-Distance-Weighting Isotropic algorithm can now model negative values. Numerous fixes to the Delete key handling. If a person was set to use local help and they downloaded the latest version of RockWorks, it will now unpack correctly. Borehole Manager - File | Backup Database: if Quickmap is active then an Access Violation error is no longer raised. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the the latest version. To download this build, use the Help | Updates | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks20. 3. A new version of RockWorks2021 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with many new features, improvements, and bug fixes. We've been busy! The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features Point symbol maps, borehole location maps, stereonet maps now offer raster symbols in addition to the standard RockWorks vector symbols. They can be uniform, column-based, or table-based. Raster symbol capabilities have been added to many other programs as well: 3-D | SpherePlot | 2D Spherical – Point 3-D | SpherePlot | 2D Cylindrical – Points Planes | Stereonet Stats | Scattergram Stats | Ternary Raster symbols are a new graphic type in RockPlot3D Added new table type "Raster Symbol Range" to Map/Models Tables. Data Dictionary version increased to 37. A new menu option titled "Traverse Defined By ..." has been added to all of the programs that create sections. If the "Interactive Map" setting is selected, these programs behave just like the used to, meaning that the section location is selected via the Section Location tab at the top of the menu. The new "List ..." options provide a way to define the sections based on ASCII text files that contain either a list of Borehole IDs or XY coordinates. Users can now generate vertical scales for profiles and sections using depth below a Datum. Vertical axis annotations for sections and profiles permit different left and right axis settings. For example, one axis might display elevation and the other depth from a datum. You can block copy the settings from one axis to the other Vertical axis annotations for sections and profiles include a new Vertical Offset setting which allows for "fine-tuning" the endpoint label positions. The Lithology | Solid Model | 3D Solid Diagram | Block Diagram | Filter now includes an option to select a given lithology (based on the Lithology Table) and use its G-Value to set the Minimum and Maximum Visible G-Value settings. This eliminates the hassle of switching back to the Lithology Table to look up the G-Value for a unit of interest. A new program titled "Drape Grid" has been added to the ModOps | Grid menu. This program will create a 3D color contour map in which the elevations are based on an “elevation grid” while the colors are based on a different grid (e.g., geochemistry). A new program titled "Multivariate Grid Map" has been added to the ModOps | Grid menu. This program will use two to five grid models to create multivariate pie chart or star burst maps in which the size of an individual slice or petal represents the average cell value from the associated grid within the vicinity of the diagram A new program titled "Grid Math" has been added to the ModOps | Grid | Math sub-menu. It consolidates the previous Grid & Constant, Grid & Grid, Add Multiple Grids, Multiply Multiple Grids, Absolute Grid, and Grid Sieve programs (which have been moved to the Utilities | Misc. | Obsolete menu to provide backward-compatibility with older versions of RockWorks Playlists.) A new program titled "Solid Math" has been added to the ModOps | Solid | Math sub-menu. It consolidates the previous Solid & Constant and Solid & Solid programs (which have been moved to the new Utilities | Misc. | Obsolete menu to provide backward-compatibility with older versions of RockWorks Playlists.)A new program titled "Solid & Grid" has been added to the ModOps | Solid | Math sub-menu. This program is used to perform mathematical operations on a solid model based on corresponding grid values. A new “Coal” tutorial case study project folder has been added to the RockWorks Data folder. This project folder includes a PDF (Coal Evaluation Case Study Using the RockWorks Playlist) that describes the example Playlist which processes a RockWorks datasheet with 583 boreholes in order to identify the areas in which three coal seams meet a variety of criteria including overburden thickness, interburden thickness, BTU, sulfur, and ash. A new program titled “HTML Builder” has been added to the Misc pulldown menu. This program creates an HTML file based on a list of images and image captions. The intended purpose of this program is to provide a means for organizing and concatenating all of the images that are generated by a RockWorks Playlist into a file that can be displayed within a web browser or edited within Microsoft Word to produce a final report. The RW17 Fault Contours to Fault Surface program has been added to RW20 and modified to Import the fault contours to a 3D fault in the Fault table. Added Project_Cmd to be able to set the project in the Playlist or a command script. Improvements The Playlist shows which step is being processed. The RockWorks20 installer includes the Microsoft Visual C++ The "Loading" menu that appears when an application menu is being loaded now displays a gauge that shows the loading process. A similar gauge is also displayed within the Playlist when an item is being saved. The Geobody program includes options for specifying cutoff volumes in terms of project units (e.g. cubic meters) and displaying a message if none of the geobodies exceeds the threshold. The Borehole Manager | Edit | Adjust Elevations From Grid program provides options for setting the collar elevation to the new ground surface elevation, for offsetting the existing collar elevations based on the ground elevation changes, and for not adjusting the Collar elevations at all. The maximum Vertical Exaggeration within the 3D diagram Export menu has been changed from 10 to 9999. Items in RockPlot3D can now be offset in the X and Y directions as well as Z. It is now possible to specify directions between -360 and +360 degrees when specifying the offset direction for parallel profiles. The Utilities | Maps | Lineations/Arrows program now includes color options for the endpoint labels. The Datasheet | Filter | Remove Disabled program is now orders of magnitude faster and the screen doesn't incessantly flicker during the process. Imports into the Datasheet automatically assigns the input filename as the Datasheet filename (with .rwDat extension). If this filename already exists in the folder the user will be prompted for a new name. Text, CSV and Excel Datasheet imports allow the setting of datasheet column types and units. These new settings are stored in the ini file and can be set/edited in a Playlist Since the improvement in the Datasheet import of CSV files allowed multiple lines and quotation marks in a field, The Save and Open a datasheet will now also allow these improvements. A number of changes have been made to the ModOps | Grid | Import | Bitmap program, including importing large GeoTIFF images, crop the data to the project dimensions, rescale the image pixels to the project dimensions cell size, accommodate image dimensions in a corresponding World file that are expressed in a different coordinate system. ModOps - Solid | Filters | Tunnel Clipping and Borehole Clipping now accept (and default to) the RockWorks null value. The ModOps | Solid | Edit - As Block Model program is no longer limited to 100 points when defining the vertices of a replacement polyhedron. Bug Fixes When selecting a profile or section points the user can have an image as a background to assist in selecting the points. (File | Options | Project Image Options) Draped images in RockPlot3D now clip the image when the image location is larger than the grid it's draped on. The Graphics | 2D Tools | Export | PDF | Single/Multiple program can add to Playlist with the Add to Playlist button. The ModOps | Solid | Extract Grids | Solid -> Total Ore Grid now accommodates solids that have null values. The Delete key now works on blocks of cells in the RockWorks Datasheet. ModOps | Grid | Drape grid, works with Custom Color Tables, honors assigned table name. Borehole Operations | Lithology | Multi-variate Map will now honor the Use Existing Model Option. Datasheet | File | Import | Excel, CSV and Text was freezing or reported a pointer error when defining column types and units. Importing into the datasheet from a text file with no header, no longer takes the first row as a title. The first row will appear as the first row in the Datasheet. Running a command script (RwCmd) from the command line or Windows File Explorer no longer causes RockWorks to load without any docked forms. In addition the command script will now be processed automatically. ModOps | Solid | Logic | Mass Calc: Missing parameter for density conversion has been added. ModOps | Solid | Extract Grids | Solid Layer -> Grid now uses the correct orietation. The color fill contours in Cross Sections and Profiles now honor the faults that are enabled in the Fault table. RockPlot2D no longer exports layers that are inactive to RockPlot3D. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the the latest version. To download this build, use the Help | Updates | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks2020. 4. A new version of RockWorks2020 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with many new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. New Features The new ModOps | Volume | Time-Based Mass creates a report that lists the change in mass of a contaminant over time, based on a list of solids that represent geochemical models for discrete time intervals. A new option titled "Polygon" has been added to the gridding options menus. This new tool can be used to crop grid models using a polygon based on: the control point extents (i.e. a convex hull), a polygon table, a polygon defined within an RwDat file, or a polygon defined within a RockPlot2D file. A new option titled "Launch Program" has been added to the Playlist | Add pull-down menu. The Borehole Operations | Maps | Borehole Map menu now includes an option for using the borehole symbols that are unique to each borehole (as defined within the Borehole Location tab for each borehole) or specifying a uniform symbol for all boreholes. The new ModOps | Grid | Math | Grid Intersections program determines the locations where two grids intersect, such as where a water table intersects the surface topography. The Layout menu offers more automatic stretch, cascade, tile, and horizontal or vertical stack of open documents and windows. The new program titled ModOps | Grid | 3 Grids -> Solid program will create a block model in which the voxel values between two surface model grids are defined by another grid (e.g. a grid representing ore grades). The faults are now included in the Multi-Table import/export (hence in the Archive also), and faults can now be transferred when creating a new project. The new Double Gridding option in the gridding Options | Faulted menu will create more accurate interpolations adjacent to 3D faults. The new Perpendicular Model option in the 3D Log Designer | Fractures menu and Fractures | Solid Model program offers easier display of downhole seismic and radar surveys in which the fracture radius represents the distance to an object (e.g. pilings) and the aperture represents the height of the object. Improvements Many Fault improvements, including 2D and 3D faults can be created from RockPlot2D from a line or polyline, you can now convert a 2D fault to a 3D fault, you can import RockWorks17 2D faults into the new RockWorks2020 fault tab. The 2D Fault Map title font size, title spacing, symbol size, and symbol spacing are now specified as a percentage of the Project Size. The grid smoothing and plotting of 3D fault intercepts within 2D maps has been improved. The Playlist drag/drop, delete, paste, and edit options have all been improved. The Filter/Select boreholes, plot of boreholes now shows the entire space based on all the boreholes. The Borehole Manager | Edit | Enable from List allows the user to enable a group of boreholes and then optionally assign a specific symbol to those boreholes. The Borehole Mananger's Edit | Save Enabled List now automatically selects "Format for Import into Other Products" so that the Enable from List program doesn't get confused by fancy formatting. The import is now more forgiving if the wrong option is selected and reports the number of updated boreholes. You can backup all the files in the project folder to a compressed file located outside the current project folder. The Flow Parameters sub-menu that is used by the Grid -> Flow Path Map, 3D Flow Diagram, and Flow Table programs has been re-designed. The 2D Log Designer Depth Bar Tick Mark Width maximum has been increased from 1.0 to 100.0. The ModOps | Volume | Thickness -> GT Grid and Elevations -> GT Grid programs have been significantly re-designed The ModOps | Solid | Filter | Replacement Table program now includes an option for setting the unfiltered nodes to the universal null value (-1.0e27). Five new symbols have been added to the Raster Symbol Library. Bug Fixes Transfer boreholes from the datasheet to the Borehole Manager database no longer raises an exception. Contouring grids no longer changes the output values in Cell Maps. Striplog Cross Sections now export without error to Google Earth. Sections and Profiles without annotation now export correctly to Google Earth. Exporting DXF files with patterns from RockPlot2D sometimes caused the program to hang. Filling a list of P-Data, I-Data, T-Data, P-Text & I-Text types sorts on the "SortOrder" field. Previously it tried to sort on a non-existent field which raised an exception on SQL Server but not on SQLite. Fault exports will include only enabled faults. Faults are now properly plotted when their intercepts with grid models are projected onto 2D maps (Figure 1). In addition, portions of “blind” faults that lie below a grid surface are now omitted from 2D maps. The ModOps | Grid | Filters | Smooth program no longer attempts to smooth across 3D faults if the "Use Enabled Faults" option is checked. The Minimum and Maximum color designations used for continuously variable circle colors now works correctly. Stratigraphic thickness report was getting lost in an infinite loop if a stratigraphic unit was set to not display in legend. Using the keyboard shortcuts for Cut, Copy, Paste and Delete in a dialog no longer cause an Access Violation error. In linearly-correlated stratigraphy sections, if Stratigraphy was referenced to Collar Elevation, Boreholes were drawn correctly referenced to Collar, but Linear Correlations were referenced to Z Elevation, creating an offset. All Sections, Profiles and Projected Sections now plot underlaid 2D files. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the the latest version. To download this build, use the Help | Updates | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks2020. 5. A new version of RockWorks2020 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with many new features, improvements, and bug fixes. And a new video! The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of all changes in the program. Video A new button titled "2D & 3D Embellishments" has been added to the "What's New in RockWorks 2020" index. Clicking on this button will display a new video that describes some additional new features within RockWorks 2020.(https://www.screencast.com/t/16pyJx9BJp). New Features A new tab option titled "Lith/Strat Filter" has been added to the following menus: I-Data | Histogram I-Data | Statistics P-Data | Histogram P-Data | Statistics T-Data | Histogram T-Data | Statistics Reports generated by programs that use the new Lith/Strat Filter option now include summaries of the Lith/Strat Filter settings. Users can now specify the number of sides in RockPlot cylindrical entities (cylinder, cones, disk, etc.) in the Preferences dialog on the RockPlot tab. Fewer sides will make drawing faster and exports smaller. The default setting is 12 with a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 24. Changes to this value will affect already created diagrams. The Surface Profile options for sections and profiles now provides for two surfaces (e.g. ground surface and water table). The vertical title position for section and profile annotation can now be manually specified. This is useful when creating multiple sections and profiles in which the title position must be consistent. An option for smoothing the grids has been added to the T-Data | Multiple Solids (TimeMachine) program menu. Added an ability to list the files/entries in the Project Manager. The report labeling options within the Borehole Operations | I-Data | Volumetrics (IDataVolume) and Borehole Operations | T-Data | Volumetrics (TDataVolume) programs now include options for independently specifying the decimals places for the area, g-value, length, mass, and volume results. A new option titled “Format for Readability” has been added to the TXT and RFT sub-menus for programs that create reports. If selected, the output is configured for optimal display using a fixed-width font. The Grid Polygon Clipping program now will take multiple polygons from a RockPlot2D file and apply them to the output grid. The Utilities | 3-D | Perimeter/Wall program (Perimeter3D) now includes an option for plotting a "Cage" around the diagram. Lots of changes to the Histogram programs. "Reset Menu Setting to Defaults" was added to the Settings menu in most program windows. This is similar to the Reset in the main Setup menu except that it applies only to the menu that is open. It opens the project default ini file and updates the menu setting to those values. Improvements The "Show Instructions" checkbox that formerly appeared within the sub-menus listed below has been replaced by a small "Show/Hide" +/- button located near the upper-right corner of the sub-dialog. The status of the small +/- buttons (display/show help embedded messages) at the right edge of the following sub-menus is now shared with all other programs: Time Filter , Strat Rules, 2D Log Design, 3D Log Design, Fence Location, Section Location, Profile Location, ProSect Location, and Location Map. In the Playlist you can multi-select items then Cut, Copy, Paste and Delete multiple items at a time. The popup menu that appears when the user right-clicks on the Playlist now includes the Enable All and Disable All options. The number of Playlist items is now shown within the Playlist title. Vertical and diagonal striplog titles within sections and profiles now properly offset the main title. The Solid Voxel Reveal program has been renamed to Solid Reveal and now works with both Isosurfaces and Voxel models. The stand alone Voxel Reveal program now allows users to set the view direction, zoom, vertical exaggeration, background color and other 3D options. The Solid Reveal program now allows the user to activate up to 12 different changes of direction, with or without a bounce. Deletions from the Faults tab will warn the user with a confirmation dialog for both single fault deletes or the Erase Disabled functions. Reminder warnings have been added to the 2D Striplog Section and Stratigraphy Picker menus to avoid using the Hang and Vertical Clipping at the same time. ModOps Solid | Import changed the menu items to ASCII XYZG Import with and without a header. Reworked the imports to handle other delimiters in addition to a space. The RockWorks Graphics | Images | Digitize program has been redesigned. The textual reports produced by the IDataVolume and TDataVolume programs now include the name of the polygon table used for limiting the resource, the density conversion factor, and the stripping ratio type. They have been reformatted for better readability, and the Geologic Resources/Reserves summary has been moved to the bottom of the report to be more consistent with the sequence of filtering. Other reports have also been reformatted for better readability: Borehole Operations: Striplogs | Datasheet - > Borehole Survey, Striplogs | Borehole Survey, P-Data | Create Predictive Model, P-Data | Histograms by Lithology, I-Data | Statistics, T-Data | Statistics, P-Data | Statistics Utilities: Stats | Univariate, Survey | XYZ, Planes | Beta Intersections, Stats | XYZ Analysis ModOps: Grid | Directional | Trend Surface Report, Grid | Statistics | Stats - Single Grid, Grids | Statistics | Stats - Multiple Grids, Volume | Triangulation Volumetrics, Volume | Ore Grid, Volumetrics | Extract Via Surface Excavation The ModOps | Volumetrics | Extract Via Surface Excavation program now checks to make sure that the surface and the solid models have the same dimensions and issues a meaningful error message if they don’t. You can now import your 2D faults into 3D fault tab (Faults Tab | Import | Fault Table to 3D Faults. On the Fault tab, delete any value in the G-Value field will NULL the field, it will show as a blank, a database NULL value. The frame for importing Faults will now accept a blank value as a null value and not convert it to a '0'. The font dimensions for adding perimeter annotation in Google Earth is no longer shown in scientific notation and the maximum size has been increased to 10,000 meters. The RockPlot2D Annotate Border program now offers the correct options for the type of diagram (maps, sections, diagrams) and has been renamed to Annotate. Bug Fixes The solid modeling Distance filter now works correctly when modeling lithology using either the Lateral Blending or Lateral Extrusion algorithms. The ModOps | Volumetrics | Extract Via Surface Excavation program now generates a 3D diagram. Unchecking the Report option will now eliminate the report. The Stratigraphy Picker now reads numbers with thousands separators and plots formations below a depth of 1,000. The Manual option within the CSV export program now works correctly. Planes | Polylines to Planes, azimuths can represent strike or dip. Tab renamed to Directionality. I-Data Volume and T-Data Volume programs no longer generate errors if the Report option is disabled. Utilities - Stats | Ternary Diagram Titles now honor the Peripherals input values. Also applies to the Durov and Stiff diagrams. Fixed DBF import to the Datasheet, plumbing reconnected so import works. Polylines & Images -> Mult. Curved Image Panels, plumbing reconnected so it works. Also Sample file Images_Vertical_Multiple_Curved updated. Polyline & Image -> Single Curved Image Panel, plumbing reconnected so it works. Added an example file to "Polyline & Image -> Single Curved Image Panel". Sections with grid-based surface profiles no longer generate an error if there are duplicate vertex points. Sections through solids no longer generate an error if there are duplicate vertex points. 3D Shape Exports (Stratigraphy, Lithology, Water Levels, Well Construction Fractures, I-Data, T-Data and P-Data) have been moved out of the Ledger Exports due to an incompatibility of the options and purpose. The Shape exports have their own menu items as they did in RW17. Reports that are sent to Text or RTF files now use the designated Manual file name. The Solids to Animation program now scans all included solid models to find one minimum/maximum value set to fit all models in the animation. This prevents the color scheme from changing for each frame. The Solid | Export | ASCII program permits selection of G value decimal places. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the the latest version. 6. A new version of RockWorks2020 was uploaded to the RockWare website yesterday, with many new features, improvements, and bug fixes. New Features and Improvements RockWorks can now import 5 meter DEM's. Be aware that they create huge (>1.5M node) grids so plotting will be slow. The processing of 3D animations has been sped up by about 30%.. Changed the memory display colors for 0-25% to white text on a red background. Dates will now be saved in US format MM/DD/YEAR (i.e. 7/22/2020) for Ini, Play list and command script files. Shape file import will now read the Shape file's Projection and Coordinate Reference System (prg file). Date Format and Date Separator in the Datasheet work with 'Date' Type columns and programs that use dates. Bug Fixes Striplogs | 2D Striplog: Plot vertical with elevations for deviated holes now show correct elevations for the corresponding measured depth. Map Overlays - Prefix and Suffix prompts are wider, a consistent 100 pixels. Google Earth functions have been hidden on the Subsite dialog as they use the Project's values and not the Subsite's. Tweaked several 3D Log Design Designer Options to scroll better on a smaller screens. Draped images can now be displayed in RockPlot3D without error. The RockPlot3D export to DXF no longer has a limit on the number of entities. Declustering for Solid Models now more closely matches the user suggested spacing. When defining the labeling options for symbols, the Opaque Background setting is no longer dependent upon the Enclosing Background setting The Solid and Grids Filter now handles nulls in the grids. Double clicking on a file in the WIndow's File Explorer now opens the file even if RockWorks is already running. The Grids To Stratigraphic layers program now runs. Playlists that modify the Datasheet no longer cause a "Cannot Focus a Disabled Window" error. Total Nodes and Grid Area are calculated and shown in Grid Statistics report. 2D Grid Map | Peripherals showing the North Arrow and not showing the pattern key adjusted for Grid math items. Aquifer legend removed from ModOps - Grid | Directional | Flow Path Map We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. New Features and Improvements The user can draw a rectangle in RockPlot2D, and the select it with a right click to update the project dimensions. (Rectangle Attributes, Location tab, Set Output Dimensions button) A Null replacement value has been added an option to the Grid Model --> Boolean and Solid Model --> Boolean programs. Users can now move the anchor point of Anchor Text in RockPlot2D. Users can load dimensions from an existing subsite (Subsite_Cmd). A quick way to add this command to the Playlist is from the Subsite Dialog (last item in the Subsite drop down list - "Edit Subsites"). From that dialog there is a "RCL" menu item , which has options to "Add to Playlist" and "Export to a RwCmd file". The RockPlot2D Manual Pattern Scaling can now be applied to all diagrams. Map, Section and Profiles are based on the Project Dimensions. Charts use the diagram dimensions. The Float Images in Google Earth now force a rotation so that the images are in the view. Added a vertical scroll bar to the Vertical and Horzontal Axis options for Profiles, Sections and Projected Sections so that all options can be seen and adjusted. Borehole Manager | Import Raster Logs, you can now select multiple files for import. The import is more forgiving when the tiff file is no longer in the original folder. A vertical divider bar (to be moved left/right) has been added to the 2D Log Design window, so that the visible items pane can be expanded. Added scroll bars to the Georeference dialog. LoadDimensions_Cmd and SaveDimensions_Cmd will work from Playlists and scripts. Example: PROJECT DIM_FILE Default_Project_Dimensions.rwDim Bug Fixes Stratigraphy and Lithology Fence diagrams now honor the position setting for Legends. All of the PLSS data input fields in the Borehole Manager trigger saving to the database when edited. Default filename extension for input solids changed to RwMod, was RwGrd. The "Create New Solid Model" option now uses the user specified name. Playlist Load and Save Datasheet behave more as expected. The Inclined Surface option for Solid and Grid(s) Filter is now created correctly. ModOps - Grid | Filters | Polygon Clip was freeing the polystream twice causing a Invalid Pointer. Grid filter tools were missing the color legend option When inserting a new borehole, the "Other Coordinate Projections" data is now posted with the rest of the entered borehole data. The project dimensions could get the number of nodes set to zero and saved when the values were edited such that the Minimum exceeded the Maximum. The check on the values is now being done before saving. When scanning boreholes from the Subsite dialog, the Subsite dialog is now being updated, not the Dimensions tab in RockWorks. Also the Dimensions tab is updated when Scan Boreholes is called from the Search Dialog. Hydrology and Borehole Operations - Aquifers: Hydrograph tools (Hydrograph, Hydrograph map and Hydrograph billbords) work. Graphics - Images | Geo-reference - 3D Display default was changed to Float instead of Drape. Graphics - 2D Tools | Export | ReportWorks: will now prompt to save on close. The Solid and Grid(s) Filter now uses the correct surface type instead of defaulting to grid surfaces. The Solid and Grid(s) Filter no longer causes an Access Violation when grid surfaces are selected. Google Earth programs that output disks, tubes, centered images and text were not calculating sizes correctly. Re-projecting just the Z values now works. RockPlot2D previews are now saved when the Rw2D files are saved whether the diagram is displayed or not. Fixed vertical divider bar in the Application Search dialog. A RW15 input grid model is converted only once when both a 2D map and 3D diagram output are requested via the Grid | Display program. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. Contact support at rockware.com for a link to the the latest version. 8. A new version of RockWorks2020 was uploaded to the RockWare website yesterday, with a lot of changes: New Features The Output Options / Export sub-menu now includes an option for exporting the output directly to PDF. The Opacity of Colored Intervals within 2D output may now be adjusted such that features below the contour map (e.g. airphotos) may be identified. The Striplogs page within the Graphics / Animate / Solid -> 3D Animation and Solid -> 3D IsoShell Animation program menus now includes an option titled "T-Data Only". If selected, striplogs within the animations will be filtered such that only the logs with T-Data that was sampled during the model date interval will be shown. A new program titled "Depth to Target" has been added to the ModOps / Solid / Solid -> Grid sub-menu in RockWorks2020. Given a ground surface grid model and a solid model, this program will create and display a grid that represents the depth to either the largest solid node value or the depth to the shallowest node within a specified range. An option titled "Constrain" has been added to the Solid Options sub-menu. This new tool will use the specified boolean model (the "constraining model") to determine which nodes will be interpolated during the subsequent modeling process. Specifically, nodes will not be interpolated for voxels in which the corresponding node within the constraining boolean model has a value of zero (false). Constraining models are useful for limiting geochemical models to regions defined by other parameters such as permeability. Improvements All programs that read data from the Datasheet will now skip any data that contains a null (-1.0e27) value. If the Drape option is used as an embellishment for any 3D diagram, and the grid that the image is to be draped over has not been specified, the following error message will appear: RockPlot2D now loads quicker and with less flickering in the Launch Form. DXF exports from RockPlot3D now use True Colors and support vertical exaggeration. Collada Export is exported in meters. Coordinate system has to be set but does not have to be in decimal degrees. The Depth-to-Target program now provides for a minimum G-Value when computing the depth to maximum G-Value. This eliminates background-levels from consideration. In addition, a color legend may now be added to the output. The maximum number of cutoff levels has been increased from three to six within the Display as IsoShells, Solids -> 3D IsoShell Animations, Time-Based Volumetrics programs in RockWorks2020 When generating IsoShell animations, empty models will generate a warning message rather than an error message. This prevents the process from disrupting a long Playlist process. Cosmetic An explanatory diagram has been added to the new Solid Modeling / Options / Constrain page. The Output Options menu for programs that generate 3D diagrams has been redesigned to be consistent with the Output Options menu for 2D diagrams. The notice/reminder that appears within the Striplogs page no longer appears behind the clipping parameters menu. The TCE Site Playlist has been modified to accommodate the new solid modeling Constrain option and the changes to the Multiple Solids (aka TimeMachine) program. The Multiple Solids help message and abstract have also been modified accordingly. The default width of the dialog box that appears when renaming a RockWorks2020 Playlist item has been increased to 800 pixels to allow for longer descriptions. Ampersands (&) are now displayed within the Grid2DipSymMap, RuColMultiFilt, SolidGridFilter, Vpanels, and Vpanels2Xyzg program titles and/or descriptions. Arrows symbols are no longer preceded by hyphens within the Pgon, R2d2Mif, R2d2Pdf, and R2DtoReportworks programs titles and/or descriptions. Bug Fixes DXF exports from RockPlot3D now correctly place polylines at their correct elevation. Restored the upper tabs for P-Data Fence diagrams. The Optimize column layout for the datasheet now honors the Preferences setting. Improved the accuracy of coordinates in RockPlot3D. Draped images now align correctly with the grid dimensions. The Animate / Solids -> 3D animation program now uses the specified color scheme. The margin and line width are now honored in RockPlot2D exports to raster images. Items within the Playlist that use custom color tables will no longer alter other items that use custom color tables if the item is edited. The Playlist / Add / Project Dimensions option now works correctly. Items that are edited within the Playlist no longer change the settings within the corresponding application within the main menu bar. Modifying a Slice Position for Solid Models in RockPlot3D (RW2020) using the mouse on the slider bar now updated the position in the title of the Slice Options dialog. Double ampersands (&&) within program descriptions are now shown as single ampersands when adding items to the Playlist. The Vertex Table options within the Graphics / 2D Tools / Enclosing Polygon program in RockWorks2020 now have check-boxes to determine how the vertices will be saved. Documentation The RockWorks2020 TCE Site Playlist and PDF have been adjusted to reflect the recent changes to the IsoShell cutoff levels within the program. A PDF file titled "Time-Based Modeling, Analysis & Visualization" is now included within the TCE Site folder for RockWorks2020. This paper is intended to serve as a step-by-step tutorial for using the Playlist to model, visualize, and analyze a TCE groundwater contaminant that is migrating over time. Abstracts have been added to a number of menu options. We recommend that Network license users install the RockWare Network License Administrator v. 1.15. 16. I have one more issue I am trying to figure out. We want to show LNAPL overlaying the shallow aquifer so I created 2 "aquifers", one for product and one for groundwater. However, when I model the LNAPL aquifer it has holes where the aquifer pinches out (see image below), which makes sense for groundwater but not for product. Ideally, the product would appear more like bullseyes and not extend to the edge of the model area. Do you know of a way to address this? Thanks again for your help!
  17. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: New Feature Layers in RockPlot2D can now be dragged. 18. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: New Feature Logarithmic histograms can have a constant bin size or a variable bin size that appear equal-sized when shown on the logarithmic scale Improvement When creating T-Data models, RockWorks will look for any T-Data intervals in which the Depth-to-Top is -9999 and the Depth-to-Base is -9999 and temporarily change these depths such that the Depth-to-Top is zero and the Depth-to-Base is the TD. Bug Fixes Transparency for RockPlot3D Groups was not being saved. The RockPlot3D Color Legends using tables weren't plotting all the labels. The Export of multiple tables (ASCII & Excel) works when there are comments for the Borehole. Eliminated an extra label for RockPlot3D Color Legends based on continuous tables. The global settings for the number of decimal places for meters and feet was used in reversed in some places (spec Project dimensions). RockWorks17 will now skip any borehole T-Data in which a null value has been imported for the sample date. In RockPlot2D pattern filled polygons that have a width or height of 0 in pixels weren't clipped correctly. The intermediate grids were not being saved when creating a Direct Color grid leading to a File Not Found error. Vertical Image Panels to XYZ wasn't scaling the Z coordinates correctly. The Vertical Panels to XYZ program using horizontal and vertical distance now correctly generates XYZ Color output. 21. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: Bug Fixes Printing from RockPlot3D sometimes produced black pages. Importing a DXF file into a RockPlot3D scene with a raster image caused a "File not found" message. Importing selected patterns overwrote the entire pattern file. RockPlot3D now uses the Custom Color Table stored in the Rw3D file before looking for the Color Table name in the project database. Solid Modeling Decluster RCL options were not always being saved when output to a file or display. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of these changes since the last update. 22. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: Improvements Pasting items into the Pattern Editor that would be offset outside the Design Window now pushes them to the bottom. A Clear All button has been added to the Pattern Editor. If a solid model consists of only null values, an error message will now be displayed and the process will be terminated. The previous version would just hang and the user was left wondering if they should keep waiting. The Transfer functions from the Utilities datasheet (Locations and Stratigraphy), will now use their own query/data to update the Borehole Manager's data. This ensures all of the data is transferred. Bug Fixes The Line Width option in the Pattern Editor is now working. The Solid Model Reveal Animation now displays the correct inner faces. The Super and Sub Face Filters Replacement values for Solid Modeling now take precedence over the Distance Filter. The dip angle spinner button within the Solid Modeling Options | Tilting menu now ranges between -90 and +90. The previous version would only allow for values between zero and +90. The Scan of the Datasheet for dimensions will not convert the coordinates if coordinate systems are the same. (The scanner converted the coordinates to Lon/Lat and back even when the systems were the same.) The multiple point coordinate converter for the Utilities Datasheet now converts to/from Local Coordinates. Due to an oversight implementing Proj.4 conversions Local Coordinates were treated as degrees of Long/Lat. Other places coordinates were converted continue to work. Voxel Models that are hidden no longer draw during rotation. In RockPlot3D Line Widths can never be set beyond the minimum or maximum values which can cause errors. The menus for exporting vertical and horizontal charts from Rockplot2D to Google Earth are no longer disabled. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of these changes since the last update. To download this build, use the Help | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks17. 23. Hi Tom, Please assist me in controlling the vertical axis for my elevation, ranging from 926-1004m.a.m.s.l but my plot diagram goes to just over 1500m.a.m.s.l Is there anywhere I can specify the min max of the axis Your support is highly appreciated M
  24. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: Improvements The Pattern Designer now has margin between the left and bottom of the designer window. In the Pattern Designer the default size is now smaller for drawn dots and imported circles. Modified the way the Pattern Designer window is sized by adding a splitter bar. Bug Fixes The Lithology Multivariate Maps no longer omit the last lithology type. A routine to resegment polylines in RockPlot2D could cause an infinite loop if the line was very short. This could happen when converting to Google Earth where the output coordinates are in degrees Line widths in RockPlot2D exports are now scaled correctly. Exports from RockPlot2D that required tiling raster images was plotting the images incorrectly. Line widths in RockPlot2D items in ReportWorks diagrams were not being scaled according to the resolution. The Hydrographs run from the Borehole Manager Aquifer menu were using elevation instead of depths for the water level. The Show Label option for Color Table records in RockPlot3D weren't being saved. New versions of RockWorks17 (64- and 32-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following changes: New Features RockWorks17 now supports the import of depth registered raster logs into the Borehole Manager database. Added a program that converts a grid to a solid (Utilities/Solid/Convert/Grid To Solid). Improvements Color Legends in RockPlot3D that use a Custom Color Table will now place the labels at the boundaries if the table is continuous with no gaps. GeoProbe Imports works with OIHP data files. Improved coordinate handling when transferring location data from an .RwDat file to the borehole database. A "Show Label" field has been added to the Color Fill Table. This allows users to pick which labels to display in Color Table Legends in RockPlot3D and RockPlot2D. IHS Energy import can limit Stratigraphy Tops & Bottoms to specific source codes. When copying data to a new project, the project dimensions were not copied correctly when there were subsite values. Improved column sorting in accessory project tables. Bug Fixes The Legend options for 3D Multiple Striplogs weren't being saved. The PLSS Offset vs. quarter/quarter radio buttons on the tabsheet tabs are now both being updated. Made a fix to the Land Grid tab-delimited System Table for custom grid coordinates, it was not loading the entire the point stream. Added a fix to the database's Color Fill table, you can enable/disable all Show Label fields at once. Tabbing thru the last row will now insert an new row as the other tables do. Specifying a column for Easting or Northing columns in Utilities/Map/Grid Based Map that didn't include input units caused the program to keep asking to automatically fix input units. Failure to create a grid in Utilities/Map/Grid Based Map caused an Access Violation error. Fixed some issues displaying Color Tables and modifying label text in RockPlot3D The Recent Projects menu item could cause an Access Violation error in certain circumstances. The Size, Color and Font Name can now be modified in RockPlot3D Bitmap Text. The Declustering Resolution for models and grids can now be set larger than 100%. The RockPlot2D Color Legend using a color table was not plotting the colors or labels correctly when in descending order. In RockPlot3D View nodes can no longer be dragged out of the View set in the data tree. The Title of Views in RockPlot3D are now correctly saved after they've been edited. The transparency setting for raster images in RockPlot3D is now saved. The RockWorks Revision History has a complete list, by date, of these changes since the last update.
