  1. Rockplot 3D slow rendering

I am using RockPlot 3D14 2009.3.23, and it used to work just fine on my older machine with less memory and consumer based graphics card. Now on my new system with AMD FX8350 8 core 4Ghz processor, 32Gb of ram, and 1Gb AMD Firepro graphics card it is so sluggish I can barely use it. Originally it was set to use software acceleration and I changed that to hardware acceleration with no noticible improvement in rendering performance. It seems like this should be much faster/ smoother given my hardware specs? Thanks,
  2. Rockplot 3D slow rendering

I just installed RW16 demo and I opened the file using the new RockPlot3D It renders smoothly without any of the delay that I experienced using the older RP3D software. Hmm? Maybe I can talk my company into upgrading to the newest version of RW? I will play around with it and see if it makes sense to upgrade? The newer version of RW will not override my older RW data base when I point to that directory will it?
  3. Rockplot 3D slow rendering

Ok Molly. I will give that a try. I don't mind being the beta tester here since I am still using your older RW software.
  4. Rockplot 3D slow rendering

Strange? So even though I have a decent professional level AMD Firepro 4900 graphics card, the hardware acceleration wont really do me much good?
  5. Floating Point Error

I posted this back in April and I never received any replies. I am still having this floating point error issue. I have checked all the usual suspects and cannot figure out what is causing it. I attached my RW 14 database. Thanks for looking into this. Joseph Plummer ECM Inc. Rockworks_NestleSHack.zip
  6. Floating Point Error.

I am receiving an "invalid floating point operation" error whenever I try to plot strip log sections. I have tried restoring the database to a previous backup with no luck. The error persists. I have also tried exporting the upload sheet to excel and changing the erroneous well construction offset values from -1.7E308 to 0 and then uploading the sheet back into the database, but I am still having the problem. I have had these issues in the past, and it seems like there is no way to reset the database? Can you please tell me how I can get rid of this error now and in the future if I have the same problem? I am also getting this error when I try to upload the excel sheet back into RW. "There is nothing mapped to the Location table." Thanks,
  7. Please see the included attachment of the error message.
  8. Cannot create file, access is denied.

Tom, Here's the attachment. Please let me know if it came through this time?
  9. RW 14, logs aren

I just created a new RW database for a project I'm building cross sections for. For some reason I am unable to plot either single strip logs or strip logs along a section. I can see all the boring locations in the map view and they appear to be in the correct locations in space, but when I attempt to plot them in a section the screen is blank. I have included my menu settings .rcl file for your reference. Thanks, Joseph
  10. RW 14, logs aren

Thanks Molly! It turned out that the clipping was on. I appreciate your suggestions, they were helpful in resolving this issue.
  11. RW 14 not plotting logs.

  12. I recently added some new survey data for the borings I was using to create a solid lith model and when I re-ran the model it is no longer plotting anything at all? Any ideas what I might need to do to create the solid model again? Perhaps RW is still using the old point data that's stored in memory, and it needs to be purged before I re-plot the new model?
  13. I currently have logplot installed on my desktop computer but I would like to have it on my laptop as well, so that I can input logs while I am in the field. Please advise. Joseph Plummer
  14. Nested well?

Is there an easy way to illustrate a nested well in the well construction section of log plot 2005? So far I have figured out how to set up two well casings that are offset, with well material around one of them, but I cannot figure out how to set the well material around both wells?
  15. No points located for lith data?

I am trying to create a lith model and I am getting this error message, "no points located for lith data"? Can anyone tell me what may be causing this?
  16. We created a lith model that we would like to visualize only selected sand units. Is it possible to turn-off all other lithology in the model except for selected sand units? Perhaps this is possible by using a g-value filter? Thanks for your input?
  17. Looking for a new laptop.

I am in the market for a new laptop and wanted to know if anyone had a particular recommendation for a decent Rockworks machine? Currently I run RW14 on my desktop computer which is a quadcore with 8gb of ram and it is ok. My current laptop can barely run RW in 3D, so I'd like to get a newer one that might have a little more graphics/processing power. Thanks for the advice.

  19. Changed xyz data, lith model not plotting now?

I think I figured out the problem. It seems the surface grid I was using to constrain the top of the lith model was creating a conflict.
  20. Changed xyz data, lith model not plotting now?

I just imported the new model to my laptop and ran it, and it has the same problem, 0 Volume for lithology? Perhaps I can upload the model, and you may be able to duplicate the problem? I am able to plot out the 3D striplogs fine, there's just nothing plotting out when I try to run the solid model?
  21. Changed xyz data, lith model not plotting now?

Allison, I ran the calculate xyz values, then I ran the 3D striplogs and they all plot out correctly, however when I ran the model again it still did not plot the 3D solid lithology?
  22. Error msg.

I keep receiving this error when I try to run any models etc. I'm guessing it has something to do the .tab file not matching up with the settings in RW?
  23. Draped aerial image issues.

I'm using RW 14 and I tried to drape an aerial image over my lith model and it is not in the correct position. I also inserted a floating image using the x and y max/min coordinates I got off of it in autocad and that image is in the correct position. Can you please advise me on correctly draping the image over the model in the correct position? I should also add that the floating image covers a larger area than the model extents. I am not sure if this may be causing the issue or not? I attached the plan view of the floating image(larger) and the draped image (smaller) for your reference.
  24. Draped aerial image issues.

Tom, The area you clipped does not match the grd file I sent? The aerial covers a larger swath of the site which covers two separate sites, and for some reason the clipped image you sent me is corresponding to the other site? Any way is it possible to approach this image clipping issue any other ways? I have didger 4, perhaps I can use that program to clip the image? Only thing is I don't really understand how to bring the image into diddger via coordinates and then overlay the model reference cage on top of it to use as a clipping boundary?
  25. Draped aerial image issues.

Tom, I just uploaded the surface .grd file, the aerial image, and the coordinates .txt files to your upload site. Thanks for your help on this.
