  1. A user has reported a DLL error running the Safety Factor Calculations in RockPack III on a Windows 10 64-bit computer: Class not registered. You need the following file to be installed on your machine. MSSTDFMT.DLL. This is a DLL which is apparently not installed with newer versions of Windows, and it is required by RockPack III. Solution: 1. Find this DLL: First search your own computer for MSSTDFMT.DLL. If you cannot find it locally, search your company network computers for known safe copies of this DLL (probably from installations of older software). If you cannot find it on your network, you can also do a search on the microsoft.com site. We do not recommend downloading DLLs from "DLL Download" websites. 2. Once you locate a copy of the MSSTDFMT.DLL file, copy it to one of these system folders: If you have a 32-bit computer: c:\windows\system32\ If you have a 64-bit computer: c:\windows\syswow64\ 3. Register the DLL In the Search box on the Windows 10 taskbar, type in: cmd You should see the "Command Prompt, Desktop App" displayed in the results. Right-click on this item and select Run As Administrator. Click Yes if prompted to confirm it's ok for this program to make changes to your system. At the command prompt, type one of the following and press the Enter key: 32-bit: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\msstdfmt.dll 64-bit: regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\msstdfmt.dll Note that there is a space between "regsvr32" and "c:\windows\..." If the registration is successful you'll be notified as such. 4. Start RockPack III and see if the tools in the Safety Factors Calculations menu now launch. Contact our support group if you need additional information. Molly RockWare Inc.
  2. A new version of RockWorks17 was uploaded to the RockWare website yesterday, with the following changes: New Feature: + Metadata is now created and saved within Grid and Solid models. These data include modeling algorithm and other related settings. Metadata can be viewed/saved as an RCL file or a text report by right-clicking on the RwGrd or RwMod file name in the Project Manager and choosing from the popup menu, or through the Grid or Solid menu Statistics | Metadata menus. This new feature will apply to new models generated in the program. Older models will simply state "no metadata" if a report is requested. + Improved selection/de-selection of children in Rockplot3D Fixes: + The Utilities | Imagery | Rectify program now generates 3D output, if requested. + Imported Surfer Binary grids now calculate the Y Spacing correctly. + RockPlot3D's reporting of the current viewing angle is correctly updated. 4. If you are generating long, continuous logs in LogPlot8, it is possible to run out of memory exporting the log to PDF. Attached here is a document which discusses some of the pagination options which might help. Users are also strongly advised to use the 64-bit version of LogPlot8 if their logs are very long (and if they have a 64-bit operating system!) as it is able to take advantage of more system memory. Cheers, Molly Mayfield RockWare Inc. How to output continuous logs to PDF in LogPlot8.pdf
  5. A customer, new to RockWorks17, saw the following error when the program first launched, as it was trying to load the Samples database: Could not open the database. Error loading MIDAS.DLL This error prevented the program from launching. This DLL is used by the RockWorks database. We install it along with the program into the RockWorks17 program directory (C:\Program Files\RockWare\RockWorks17 [64-bit version] or C:\Program Files (x86)\RockWare\RockWorks17 [32-bit]). It had been our understanding and our experience that the DLL local to the program calling it would be used. On this customer's Windows10 system, this was definitely not the case. After he confirmed that this DLL was indeed installed in the RockWorks17 program folder, we then had him search the Windows Registry on his computer for other occurrences of "MIDAS.DLL". There were two, and they referenced file locations that did not exist on his computer or network. He ran a registry cleaner which presumably removed these orphaned references, and then RockWorks17 launched successfully. Happy ending! Molly Mayfield RockWare Inc.
  6. LogPlot8 2017.10.12

New versions of LogPlot8 (32-bit and 64-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website today with the following changes. Enhancements: + An option has been added to force the program to draw column top and base lines for Lithology Description, Lithology Pattern, Interval Text, Point Text and Well Construction Columns. + The Fracture column can now be set to use dip from vertical measurements. Fixes: + Comments in the Lithology Description column could cause items below to be offset even when not needed. + The last entry in the Lithology Description model wouldn't display the base of the interval line when the description spanned 2 or more pages + Lithologic descriptions that overlap 2 pages now plot correctly regardless of the device or output resolution. + When importing from a Multisheet Excel file the Well Construction Inner and Outer dimensions were swapped. 7. A customer submitted a support issue for his RockWorks17 project, in which he was trying to create a Section diagram through his solid model with striplogs included. He had imported a very detailed polyline into the XY Coordinate Table - LOTS of vertices - to serve as the section trace. In the output diagram, at about a third of the way along the cross section, the logs started 'stacking up' at one location, resulting in the P-Data panels to the right displaying ok, but with no logs. The problem was best solved by using the P-Data | Projected Section diagram, in which the logs are not restricted to plot at panel edges; they are projected perpendicularly onto the panels instead. This is actually what the Projected Section diagrams were designed for - to eliminate the need to draw hole-to-hole section traces when the desired section polyline runs along a roadway, pipe, or similar, and those locations (typically imported into the RockWorks database) might be quite detailed. The problem was also solved for regular Sections by turning on the Snap feature in the Section Selection Map window before importing the section vertices. This pre-processes the section polyline such that logs can be assigned to panel junctions without confusion. Molly M RockWare Inc

  11. A new version of RockWorks17 was uploaded to the RockWare website today, with the following new features, improvements, and bug fixes. New Features: T-Data can now be displayed within the EZ-Section correlations. It is now possible to save the scene dimensions within RockPlot3D thereby allowing for the viewing of scene subsets. The Drape and Rectify programs can now drape an image over a selected portion of a grid. Note: The selected rectangle must be within the grid. Uniform and Circular symbols within the symbol maps may now be color-coded based on a cold (purple) to hot (red) color scheme. Lots of changes to the Stratigraphy Picker and Lithology Picker programs: + These programs now include a horizontal strip at the top of the cross-section that shows the borehole titles. This new feature solves a problem of scrolling down the logs and losing track of which logs are being displayed. It also eliminates the need to include the log titles within the Striplog Designer and the large offsets that can occur between the log titles and the log body when using vertical exaggerations. + They are now non-modal, meaning that the user may now access the main RockWorks dialog while these programs are running. + The three main work panels within the Stratigraphy Picker and the Lithology Picker are now “dockable”, meaning that they can be detached from the main form by dragging the stippled pattern within their title bars. As a consequence, they can me moved to other screens, resized, etc. When these sub-forms are dragged over the main form, small icons will appear to assist with the repositioning of the sub-forms within the main form. + Clicking on the docked panel within the new Stratigraphy and Lithology picker programs will now undock the panel. + Clicking on the Close button within floating panel will now reset the layout. + A Reset button has been added to the Picker programs to restore the original startup layout. + The Zoom, Vertical Exaggeration, and Decimal Place options within the Picker programs now include spin buttons. + The Zoom, Vertical Exaggeration, and Decimal Place options within the Picker programs are now saved between sessions. + The New button within the Stratigraphy and Lithology picker programs no longer returns the user to the main menu. Instead, the user may now select different boreholes and change other options and resume the process without restarting the process from the main menu. Improvements: Importing a Multi-Table text file into the Borehole Database no longer defaults to Local Meters if the units aren’t specified within the text file. Instead, the program now defaults to the current project units if the units aren’t specified within the text file. The Visible Menus options within the basic license now include the Borehole Manager Map and Strip Log menus. The EZ-Section correlation panels now all use the same min/max values when computing the color scheme. The new Color Legend option now works with I-Data, P-Data, and T-Data EZ-Section correlations. Bug Fixes: The Image Rectify, Image to Map, and other programs that save a raster image to a RockPlot2D diagram now set the corner point coordinates correctly. The Convert Solid to Grid algorithm now calculates the most frequently occuring points correctly. The Solid to GWV (GroundWater Vistas) Zone Matrix output has been fixed. The I-Data Fill options within the 2D Log Designer are now correctly saved. The P-Data Fill options within the 2D Log Designer are now correctly saved. The Utilities | Map | 3D Points program no longer generates a "Could not convert variant ..." error. The Utilities | Hydrology | Flowlines program no longer generates a "Could not convert variant ..." error. Draped images now show the correct colors within RockPlot3D. The State Plane Index map now properly lists Florida zone 903. The Delete View option within RockPlot3D is now visible. Images are now plotted in the correct location when draping a RockPlot3D drawing with Peripheral Images. Creating line or color contours with a faulted grid that contains null values will no longer cause the program to lock-up (infinite loop) when the null nodes correspond with the fault zone. For a complete list of the recent changes, please visit: https://www.rockware.com/rockworks/revisions/current_revisions.htm To download this build, use the Help | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks17. 12. AqQA symbol issue

A user working in AqQA 1.5 experienced missing symbols (which AqQA calls "markers") after a Windows 10 update last week. The "AqQASymbols.ttf" file was not visible in her C:Windows\Fonts\ folder. Re-installing AqQA did not solve the problem. We emailed her a copy of the "AqQASymbols.ttf" file, she saved to her desktop, then right-clicked on the TTF file and selected Install. She was warned that the font already exists, she confirmed the re-install, and the symbols now display in AqQA. It is possible that the Windows update deleted a registry setting which registered the TTF file, thus requiring re-installation of the font. (font file attached to this post) Molly Mayfield RockWare, Inc. AqQASymbol.ttf
  13. A new version of RockWorks17 was uploaded to the RockWare website on June 1st, with the following new features, improvements, and bug fixes: New Features: + The Lithology | Model | Include Volumetrics sub-menu now includes options for independently enabling/disabling the volume and mass computations. + The Lithology | Closest-Point modeling algorithm now supports model tilting and warping + The Borehole Manager | Filter | Select option now allows setting Enabled based on Option Fields with no value set (compared to NULL). + Two new options have been added to the Borehole Manager | Edit menu for saving and retrieving/restoring the enabled/disabled status of the boreholes. + It is now possible to choose Current, Enabled, or All when using the Borehole Manager | Edit | Adjust Total Depths program. + Tonnes Per Cubic Foot has been added to the list of density conversion factor units within the LithoTypes and StrataTypes tables. + Iso-Surface Contour options has been added to the Morph Model program. + Clipped isosurfaces can displayed color contours in RockPlot3D. Improvements: + Lines within RockPlot3D are no longer anti-aliased. Bug Fixes: + The colors within raster images in RockPlot3D are no longer reversed. + Elevations for inclined boreholes that angle upwards are now computed correctly. + Very large scenes within RockPlot3D no longer cause raster images to draw incorrectly + The Striplogs | 2-Dimensional | Section program no longer generates an Access Violation error when correlations are enabled for I-Data or P-Data. + The RCL “Dimensions” command now properly supports the subsite name and enable/disable borehole settings. + The G-Filter Replace options now work correctly For a complete list of the recent changes, please visit: https://www.rockware.com/rockworks/revisions/current_revisions.htm To download this build, use the Help | Check for Updates menu inside RockWorks17. 14. LogPlot8 2017.6.15

New versions of LogPlot8 (32-bit and 64-bit) were uploaded to the RockWare website yesterday with the following changes: Improvements: + The program will now “trap” and disable project folder monitoring (DirMon) if the user does not have sufficient rights. + In order to facilitate administrators who are having problems when overriding the data folder, LogPlot will now use the HKCU entry for UsrData – if it exists. Otherwise, LogPlot will read HKLM and look for an tntry like the user Document’s folder and replace whatever is there with the current user. For instance, if the key in HKLM is C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\LogPlot8 Data it will parse it and change it to, for C:\Users\Jim Jackson\Documents\LogPlot8 Data and then save it to HKCU for next time. Note: With Lp8SetNetworkPath an administrator can also set the value to: %UserProfile%\Documents\LogPlot8 Data\ for their users. Bug Fixes: + I-Text is now vertically centered. + I-Text no longer sporadically overplots adjacent entries when automatic offsets are enabled. + Scalebars with a conversion factor no longer draw tick-marks and labels in the wrong direction. + Scalebars with both meters and feet with a stickup above the ground use 0 depth as the origin, not the top of the scalebar. + Text font sizes are no longer being reduced when plotted at high resolutions to avoid long lines from stretching. Now, only the Edit and Static Text font sizes are reduced. + In the LogDesigner, Undoing the deletion of a Header Picture didn't restore the graphic. + In the LogDesigner the location rectangles that were displayed when moving an item were offset when either the vertical or horizontal scroll bars were scrolled. BUG FIXES + The Grid Math | Grid and Constant program now uses the correct file input and output settings. + When reprojecting/reassigning project coordinates and then rescaning the boreholes an access violation was being raised if the Quickmap window was showing. The program will now change back to the Borehole Data page before reprojecting/reassigning.
