  1. I need to make several 2D striplogs in Rockworks15. At the top of each striplog, I want to show the date of the boring and the total depth. In the Borehole Manager, I added the Date field. How can I automatically display the Date and Total Depth for each borehole at the top of each striplog? Can it be done using the 2D Striplog Designer or in a ReportWorks template? Mark
  2. Hi Tom, Thanks for your help using the Pattern Table. I like keeping this separate from the stratigraphy. Is there a way to make the pattern background color transparent? I can't make the background the same color as a stratigraphic layer because in some borings the pattern must straddle two layers. I did find that once the striplog is saved as a .rk6 file the Polyfill Attributes give me the option to make the background transparent. Just wondering if this could be done upfront for all striplogs in a profile or cross-section.
  3. I'm trying to import Pattern data from an Excel spreadsheet. First attempt included Bore, Depth1, Depth2, Caption fields. All but captions loaded successfully. Second attempt included Bore, Depth1, Depth2, Pattern (no data), and Caption fields. This produced error message. Import settings were Update Existing Record and only Patterns spreadsheet was being imported. bugreport.txt
  4. Rather than having Interval Text in a separate column to one side of a striplog, can it be overlapped on the stratigraphy? The stratigraphy is sand fill overlying till. However, there are thinner intervals that need to be qualified as 'Oil Contaminated Soil' or 'Oil Saturated Soil.' I can enter these intervals in my stratigraphy tab. Is there a way to represent the interval with a foreground pattern and a transparent background color so that the stratigraphy color is visible?
  5. Hello, I've created aquifer profiles and sections. I want to import them into ArcMap at the same horizontal scale as the data frame of 1 inch = 30 feet. I have tried exporting the rk6 file to a BMP and PNG with the X and Y scales set to 30 and 15 and Keep Same Proportions unchecked. But, once I import it into the ArcMap layout view the scale settings are lost. In addition, even though I set the pixels/inch to 300 and color to 24 the resolution isn't good quality. I also tried exporting the rk6 file to an EMF. The resolution is excellent, but there is no way to set the scale. How can I maintain the same scale for the cross-section as the ArcMap plan view?   6. Thanks for your help. I found a simple solution. I created the surface grid with all boreholes including surface elevation points turned on. I turned off the surface points and created the multilog cross section.
  7. I tried a 0 elevation for the surface points, but got this message. The Total Depth (0.00) for this borehole is invalid. Run Project/Check Data Integrity or edit the TD in the Location tab. After I ran the Check Data Integrity, Rockwork changed all the Total Depths to 100.0. I think this is because the depth to base of my lowest lithology layer is 100.0. Ran the multi-log section without the lithology and still got the same error.
  8. I want to create a multilog section that extends beyond the section I selected in order to show some important surface features and the elevation changes. Two retaining walls, one of which drops to a river, cause the change in elevation. At first, I created surface points as boreholes with coordinates, elevation, and a zero value for total depth. I realized this wouldn't work because the surface points need to be reflected in the surface profile line not as boreholes. Any suggestions?
  9. My lithology or stratigraphy depths are measured at the time of the direct-push boring as so many feet below ground surface. How can the added Ground Elevation field be selected as the reference for these depths?
  10. When Rockworks processes its various models where depths are used, I presume it's subtracting the depth from the Elevation field on the Location table. That's supposed to be a ground surface elevation. My depths for well construction or the water table are referenced to the top of casing elevation. Ground surface elevations are needed to create a topographic map. How can I modify Rockworks and the Excel table used for importing data to include both elevation points and then be able to use them where needed?

    top of casing depth

    I initially thought it would have to be a negative value, but I was thrown off by Rockworks Help. Well Construction Data Fields Depth to Top: Enter the measured depth to the top of the interval to be filled with the pattern block. ! The depth values must be positive.
  12. If the top of casing is 3' above ground surface, how is this entered into the DEPTH1 field for well construction?
  13. Molly, thanks for taking the time to outline these steps. They worked. When I'm editing the grid models I used the Show Points tool. Is there a way to show the borehole names?
  14. I've used Stratigraphy>Section>Model(interpolated surface model) to create the attached cross-section. Layers 2 and 3 are only found in the 2 boreholes at the D' end of the section. Although I've entered a 0 thickness for the layers in the 6 other boreholes, a lens of each is generated between the boreholes. How can the lenses be eliminated?
  15. Mitch, It turns out I was impatient. RockPlot3d took about 30 seconds to open. There's was no error message. Now that I have let it take its time, it starts-up in a couple of seconds either from the Rockworks task bar or the .exe file. Sorry to have bothered you with this.
  16. I installed the 2010.5.13 update of Rockworks but, RockPlot 3D fails to complete its start-up. The .dtd and .exe files are in the Rockware\RockPlot3D15 folder. Installing the update a second time did not correct the problem. During my first attempt, I made the mistake of browsing to ProgramFiles\Rockware\Rockworks15 where the update was installed. This put the new version in the old version's folder structure. I did some deleting to clean-up my mistake. Could I have deleted some file that is required for RockPlot 3D?

    multiline text

    In ReportWorks15, I added a multiline text block font size 12 on an 8.5x11 portrait layout. It looks good in the ReportWorks window, but printed the text is very small. Is there a setting I'm overlooking? Mark
  18. Although they are optional worksheets what is the advantage of importing, the Interval Type, Point Type, and Time Interval Type data?
  19. Thanks, Mitch. Normalizing the data made the difference. When I create the 3d surface, what settings need to be adjusted to extend the Perimeter Cage to the full range of normalized GRO data (0 to 200)? I didn't see anything in Cage Options. Mark
  20. I want to create a graph of gasoline range organics versus xy-coordinates. I created an .atd table with X, Y, and GRO data. Used the Map > Grid-based Map tool to create the GRO surface. However, the data ranges from 0 to 2770 over a an XY map area of 11,250 sq. ft. and does not have a normal distribution. The result (attached) is a lot of variation in GRO in a small area. Can the GRO axis be made logarithmic or is there a different approach I should be taking? Mark

    I'm creating multi-log sections that include the Lithology Comment field. How can I wrap the single line of text into more than 1 line where necessary?

    excavation grid

    I've got a line grid saved as a shapefile in utm coordinates. I assume I'll have to convert the lines to polygons to accomplish the following. I want to create an I-data model based on contaminated soil concentrations above a certain threshold. The grid cells could be draped over the model as a reference for location. Better still, can the location and size of voxels be defined by the grid? The final product would be used to direct excavation of soil for remediation or for backfill. Are either of these approaches possible or is there an easier way?

    bedrock surface

    I'm using RockWorks2006. I want to create a 3d model of the bedrock surface. I've populated the Total Depth in the Location tab with the refusal depths measured in the field. Can Total Depth be used directly to generate the bedrock surface model? Alternatively, is there a way to transfer it to the Stratigraphy tab?
  24. Suppose I generate a multi-log profile (or any model). Is there a way to adjust properties such as fill colors of lithology, font size and direction, adjust widths or spacing, etc. for each striplog. Is there a properties window that can be opened in RockWorks2006 or /14 that would allow someone to change specific settings without re-creating the profile over again?
