Dear Rockworks technical team, I'm going to use Rockworks 17 to construct 3D stratigraphic model determined generally by 3 main layers from the top to base as follows: Quaternary/ alluvium Neogene/ Limestone Paleogene/ Clayey Limestone Grid and model dimensions are: 100 x 100 x 5 The Quaternary sediments fill the depressions of the model. Modeling option: -Inverse Distance was selected as interpolation algorithm with additional options, including Decluster (Average), Smooth (2x2), Faulted (2D Fault). -Modeling Sequence Base-to-Top (Onlap) -Constraining Surface: Truncate Units above ground surface/ Replace top surface with ground surface -Hide thin Zones: 0.005 Problem: After successful running the interpolation, the Quaternary sediment extends over the whole region despite no Quaternary deposits are recorded in the boreholes. I tried to increase the model resolution, playing with cutoff value, using different interpolation algorithms.. but nothing is changed. (Please have a look on the screenshot) any suggestions to bypass this issue? thanks, Rudy

Do you construct the Quaternary top and bottom based on boreholes elevation? 3.     Dear Tom, No changes after snapping wells to surface topography, I uploaded a backup of the project as requested (File name: Backup_Rudy.rar). I also enclosed the shape files represent the real Quaternary and Neogene boundaries. Best Regards, Rudy

    Hi Tom, Thanks for your support. In the southeastern corner, the yellow Neogene deposits pinched out of the Paleogene formation once I activate the maximum interpolation distance to 20%. However, I tired with 5 and 10%, but the result was a clustered small circles surrounding boreholes. I'll try to snap all boreholes to the surface grid elevation and see if it can solve the problem.     I'm wondering if the difference between the borehole Z elevation and the DEM could cause such problem! By the way, how to snap them to the topographic surface?

    Dear Tom, Unfortunately, results of zero-thickness option didn't provide good results (almost no changes). I increased the cutoff to 1, 20% maximum interpolation distance. The interpolation continues trends for the Quaternary deposits! For each borehole I inserted new stratigraphic formation belongs to the Quaternary as follows: Depth to Top Depth to Base Formation 1 0 0 Quaternary 2 0 50 Neogene 3 50 100 Aquitanian 4 100 200 Paleogene The depths measured from the elevation. please any advice? thanks, Rudy

    Hi Tom, thank you so much for your quick response. I would try the second option which seems more reasonable (giving zero thicknesses). Unfortunately, polygon clipping option requires a lot of post-processing and time for smoothing grids. I think the most challenging issue in Rockworks is how to replicate complex stratigraphic succession. So it would be so appreciated when Rockware put Stratigraphic package on the subsequent development plan. I'll tell you about the results. Thanks
  10. Advanced Stratigraphic Model

    Hi RockWare Forum members and support team, after manual contraction of a 3D Stratigraphic model (Advanced Stratigraphic modeling), it is common to see cutting edges around the boundaries of each layer. What is the best way to smooth those edges and minimize the difference between layers? I usually use Grid Editing tool, but it is rather difficult and tedious in some complex cases particularly in higher resolution models. Any suggestions or protocol to follow solving such issue? all the best, Rudy

    That is easy to so with Rockworks. You Can exaggerate the cross section from the 2D window, or to setup your section from the 2D layout setting.

  17. How to Bring Modeled surface up to ground surface?

    Use advanced stratigraphic modeling option in RockWork by constructing the uppermost layer using grid edit and clip tools. I suggest you to have a look through some videos regarding this topic in YouTube. Hope this can help you

    Hi all, I am wondering if you faced such a problem regarding the GUI running RockWork 16 with a high screen resolution of 1920 x 1080? when I start Rockwork the main menu and other windows show black spot of polygons in the background like distortions so that I couldn't read texts behind them.     Hi Mitch, thank you very much for your replay, the graphic card in my laptop is NVIDIA Quadro 1000M (2GB) plus Intel HD 3000 2GB the color adjusted to true color with 32bit I just tried to change the display resolution, but it didn't work. However, this problem appears only with RockWork16 (all other software working well even Rockwork 15). I will try to change the color setting and inform you soon thanks

    Dear all, please anyone has a solution for the problem shown in the attached screenshot. after running the model there are no data the Interior areas along the lake boundary! the objective was to clip the model to the boundary polygon using filter to polygon option of the solid model. any suggestion would be appreciated thanks Rudy

Hi experts, i would like to ask you if possible to calculate the volumetric of I-Data model based on the solid model filter or G-data filtering option for the disribution of As for instant in water body (e.g. calculate the volume of contaminated water with As for the range of concentration between 1 to 1.5 ppb in a Lake). thanks

    Thank you very much Tom for your help, the problem has been solved I would to ask you if possible to calculate I-Data volumetric for the distribution of chemicals in the lake by based on G-data filtering option (e.g. need to calculate the volume of contaminated water with As in the range between 0.5 to 5 ppb in the lake) thanks, Rudy
