  1. Hi, I have a lithology model created and am now trying to run profiles. The issue is that the lithology colors extend deeper than the desired base elevation of the profile. The only options I can find are to clip/truncate when making a new model. Is there a way to do this using the existing model? I'm using Rockworks 16. Thanks in advance, Mira
  2. Hi, I have a site that's ~ 1 km by 0.5 km, that was modelled in 2013, using Rockworks 15. Over the last 3 years, more locations have been drilled and I now have to update the lithology model. I'm now using Rockworks 16. The original node spacing was 6 (X & Y) and 0.25 for z. With the new drilling, we have shallower locations, and more of them, to help delineate a layer called "Fines". The locations are still about 12m apart so I kept the 6 spacing but now have minimum lithology depths of 0.15m. I set z to be 0.08. I used Lithology blending and interpolate outliers options under the Lithology Model menu, as was used in 2013, and set the model to run. It went for ~3 hours but failed to run to completion (I got an "out of memory" message). So, I tried increasing my node spacing to 10 and back to 0.25 for z. It ran to completion but when I run a lithology profile none of the Fines is showing up (assuming because the z space isn't small enough?). Then tried tightening up the spacing again and running the model again, twice. The next attempt, after ~3 hours again, I got "Invalid pointer operation", followed by "Access violation at address 0040F1D7 in module 'RockWorks16.exe'. Read of address 00000004" after a 3rd attempt. I've downloaded the RW17 demo and have tried running the lithology model. It runs to completion with the finer spacing but it's ~1 gig in size so not very manageable. Also, when I run a profile, I'm still not getting any of the Fines to show up. If I plot the striplogs, I have color and pattern for Fines, but no "background" color in a profile. Any suggestion on how to get this to run, and be manageable, in Rockworks 16? I need to be able to create cutouts in the model and run profiles and have all the lithology show. I've tried to attach an example but just get an error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Mira
  3. 3d subsurface objects in Rockworks 16?

Thanks, Tom. I've now been asked about showing an excavation in the lithology 3d model. Any suggestions on how to approach that? He also wants to be able to cut through it and see it on a 2d cross-section, if possible...
  4. Hi, I've been asked if I can include simplified building foundations, below ground, and/or pilings in my 3d lithology model, and have them "cut" when generating 2d cross-sections. (so, if we run a 2d cross-section through a building, we'll still see the foundation as well as the lithology). I've read about adding 3d surface objects but can't seem to find info about "pushing" these objects below ground (subsurface). Anyone know if this is possible? I'm using Rockworks 16. Thanks, Mira
  5. Hi, I've generated 3d striplogs for a site and now want to include a 3d cylinder and 3d box to represent a tank and a building on the site. I understood from the Rockworks help menu that I could import DXFs of 3d solids. I drew a cylinder and a box, as solids, in AutoCAD 2011 and exported them as Release 12 DXF versions (thinking that would be as simple a file as possible). When I import to Rockworks, though, I get an error message: "an unexpected entity [insert] has been found line 0". Is there something special I need to do to the solid before I can import to Rockworks? I've seen colored cylinders, representing tanks, in some of the Rockworks promo material and would like to do the same for my project. How was it done, please? Maybe I'm not using the right approach? Thanks, Mira
  6. Hi, I've run 3d striplogs showing lithology. My lithology has about 20 entries with different patterns but the background color has been set to represent 3 different zones. I've set the g-values to sort by color (so all "brown" is first, then all "yellow", followed by all "blue"). This works fine if I run 2d striplogs - I can set the legend to sort by g-value. I can't seem to find the same option when running the 3d striplog. Is there a setting somewhere to sort by g-value for 3d legends? Thank-you, Mira
  7. patterns fail to display in 2d Stratigraphy legend

Thanks for the replies. Edward, I tried changing the density for my patterns but it didn't seem to make any difference when I generated the Grid Profile. I did discover, though, that the patterns will print in the legend when I generate the 2d profile using "2d Striplog, Profile", with "stratigraphy" legend checked on before processing. If I try inserting the legend after processing, I still only get the stratigraphy colors and no patterns. But, I'm now getting a legend that completely matches my profile so I'm somewhat happy. cheers, Mira
  8. Hi, I'm generating 2d stratigraphy profiles using Grid Profile (I also have to include the top of bedrock in each profile, for which I have a grid model). I've set up my stratigraphy types table to include colors and patterns for some units. The colors and patterns show up fine in the main profile but the patterns do not show up when I insert the legend (I only get color). Is there a setting that I've missed somewhere? Thanks for any help. Regards, Mira
  9. water level data import failure, from Excel (in RW16)

Hi Molly, That seems to have been my problem - the date format. Once I changed it in Excel to match my Windows system format, all the data imported properly into Rockworks 16. Thanks very much! Mira
  10. water level data import failure, from Excel (in RW16)

Thanks, Brian. I didn't have the Aquifer Types table defined in Rockworks before importing, so I did that. I'm still getting the same error message though. I even added "Aquifer" to the Aquifer names in my Excel file, in case that was the "improperly defined, inconsistent or incomplete info" it's warning me about. By any chance is there a limit to the number of samples that can be brought in at one time? I have 152 sampling locations with water level data that I want to use to model the Aquifers. In my "locations" tab, though, I have 229 sampling locations (not all locations have water level data associated with them). Could that be the problem? My Locations tab doesn't exactly match my Aquifer tab?
  11. Hi, I'm trying to import a standard Rockworks formatted Excel file, which has many tabs and includes a tab for water levels (tab is called Aquifer). I get the following error message: "Aquifer data line 1: Parameter object is improperly defined. Inconsistent or incomplete information was provided" The Aquifer tab has columns like this: Bore Date Depth1 Depth2 Aquifer 1-OBG-5A 21-SEP-2015 37.48 37.49 2 1-0BG-5 21-SEP-2015 34.45 34.46 1G 12-01A 21-SEP-2015 36.76 36.77 3 and continues for many more lines..... We really only have one depth for the water, but have "faked" a Depth2 thinking there had to be information in all columns. Can anyone see an obvious problem with my file? Do the cells in Excel have to be a particular format (e.g. Bore must be "text", Date must have a particular date format, Depth1/2 must be "number", etc.? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mira
  12. Font size issue - RW16

Hi Mitch, Yes, the second file does cover more area. So, it's sounding like the answer is "no", there isn't a way to lock the font size...
  13. Font size issue - RW16

Ok - I give up, he emoji wins :-)
  14. Font size issue - RW16

Note - I don't know why an emoji showed up in my question. The sentence should read "I need to append this file to another (File .
  15. Font size issue - RW16

hi, I'm working in Rockworks 16. I have a 3d striplog model with several wells (File A). I've set the font size so that most of my labels are visible and readable. I do have some overlap, but that's ok. I need to append this file to another (File . When I do, the font size enlarges so that I can no longer read most of the labels (too much overlapping). I've also tried appending File B to File A, and get the same results - all the well labels enlarge and I can't read them. Is there a way to "lock" the font size to keep this from happening when appending? Or a way to change all sizes after I've appended the file? thanks, Mira
