ArcGIS 9.1 focuses on quality, usability, and performance and includes all ArcGIS 9 service pack improvements. In addition, it is the main vehicle for the release of Network Analyst on the ArcGIS platform and for introducing the ESRI Developer Network (EDN).
ArcGIS 9.0 users who are current on maintenance will automatically receive ArcGIS 9.1 at no additional cost. ArcGIS users not current on maintenance and/or ArcView 3.x users should contact Customer Service for information on how to receive ArcGIS 9.1.

In addition to the ArcGIS Desktop enhancements, ArcView 9.1 adds 63 geoprocessing tools. ArcView 9.1 users can now create and edit subtypes in personal geodatabases and access the full range of linear referencing functionality including creating routes, editing routes, and performing geoprocessing on linear-referenced data.
ArcGIS Schematics - Fully integrated with the ArcGIS geoprocessing framework, ArcGIS Schematics allows schematics to be stored and managed in the geodatabase. Also, diagrams are organized into folders inside schematic data sets in ArcCatalog. ArcGIS Schematics also includes a new ArcObjects SDK.
ArcGIS Publisher and ArcReader - Users can publish 3D globes and 2D maps using ArcGIS Publisher and read them using ArcReader. ArcReader includes layer transparency, Swipe Tool (the same one now available in ArcMap), ArcWeb Place Finder, and ArcReader Globe. ArcReader Globe provides the following tools:

ArcGIS StreetMap - The data and functionality of ArcGIS StreetMap are now included in ArcGIS Desktop products, ArcGIS Server, and ArcGIS Engine.
ArcPress for ArcGIS - The functionality of ArcPress for ArcGIS is now included in ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo.
ArcScan for ArcGIS - The functionality of ArcScan for ArcGIS is now included in ArcEditor and ArcInfo. However, ArcView users can still license this extension.
Maplex for ArcGIS - The functionality of Maplex for ArcGIS is now included in ArcInfo. However, ArcView and ArcEditor users can still license this extension.
Server GIS
Server GIS includes ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS, and ArcSDE. These products are used to create and manage server-based GIS applications that share geographic knowledge within larger organizations and with many other users on the Internet.
New for Server GIS at version 9.1:
ArcIMS 9.1 - The ArcIMS ArcMap Server is now supported on the Solaris and Linux operating systems. The ArcIMS ArcMap Server allows users to take advantage of the advanced data access and cartographic capabilities offered in ArcMap by publishing ArcMap documents (MXD files) on the Internet. ArcIMS also now includes an updated WMS Connector. The WMS Connector is a Java Web application that provides an OGC-standard WMS interface to data served by image and ArcMap image services.
