Pitney Bowes Business Insight’s latest release of Encom Discover 3D reinforces it as the geoscientist’s essential 3D platform for the MapInfo Professional/Discover GIS environment. Discover 3D v6.0 notably incorporates support for trenches/costeans, interpretation and 3D visualisation of SEGY seismic sections, and interactive image registration, as well as many enhancements.
Simplified Installation
Discover and Discover 3D are now bundled in the same installer.
D3D Viewer
Share your 3D sessions with any Discover 12.0 user. All Discover 12.0 users have a free 3D viewer installed, allowing existing 3D sessions to be opened and viewed, but not modified.
Trenches/Costeans in 3D
Migrate your 2D trenches and costeans data into 3D, including the visualisation of face/chip/wall sampling data, allowing these datasets to be fully integrated into your 3D interpretation and modeling.
All the normal 3D drillhole properties options are available - modulate the colour and thickness of the trenches by assay and lithology fields, apply labelling, discrete samples, symbols etc.
3D Sessions
Discover 3D now automatically saves a default backup session file at a user-defined time interval (default 5 minutes). If Discover 3D closes unexpectedly, a prompt will be displayed upon Discover 3D restart to reload this session. This session can also be reopened manually at any time.
The Feature and Data spreadsheets now support copying of cell selections into the clipboard.
Seismic Sections
Our new Seismic Section tool allows the visualisation and interpretation of SEGY seismic time and depth profiles. Automated horizon picking and editing functionality assists in applying velocities, from which depth profiles can be generated for viewing in Discover 3D.
Cursor Plane
Display gridlines on the cursor plane at a user-defined spacing, providing an effective distance/measurement reference when digitising.
Fly Through Wizard
New dynamic clipping allows the recording of movies that progressively reveal the internal structure of complex datasets, such as voxel models.
3D Image Registration
3D image registration now allows the user to interactively pick registration points directly from raster imagery, including internal control points.
Features
- Features objects can be exported to separate files based on object type (i.e. points, polylines, polygons & surfaces).
- Feature export supports colour assignment.
- A group of selected point, polyline and/or polygon objects can be automatically converted into a triangulated surface.
Voxel & Block Models
- Arbitrary slice mode (using the cursor plane) can now render multiple slices through a model.
- Improved chair clipping controls.
