AQTESOLV - pumping test, slug test and single-well test analysis
Features > Curve Matching

Curve Matching

Automatic curve matching now includes singular-value decomposition to improve convergence from poor starting guesses!

AQTESOLV pioneered the integrated use of visual and automatic curve-matching methods for the analysis of aquifer test data. No other program provides greater ease or flexibility in evaluating data from pumping tests, slug tests or constant-head tests.

Visual Matching

One-click matching allows you to just point, click and drag to match a type curve or line to your data. AQTESOLV automatically updates hydraulice parameter values as you move the curve!

  • Match solutions in the traditional way, only better
  • Simultaneously match displacement and derivative data!
  • Active Type Curves replace Type A and Type B analysis!
  • Select any curve from type curve family solutions!

Automatic Matching

Match any aquifer test solution objectively and efficiently using automatic curve matching. AQTESOLV uses nonlinear weighted least-squares with singular-value decomposition to determine the optimal match between an aquifer test solution and your data.

  • Save time and increase precision when matching complex solutions with multiple type curve families!
  • Apply weights to activate or deactivate measurements during estimation!
  • Activate or deactivate individual wells to match groups of wells!
  • Apply singular-value decomposition to achieve convergence on difficult problems!
  • Select a time window to perform matching to a selected range of data!

Active Type Curves
AQTESOLV introduces Active Type Curves, a new feature that greatly enhances visual curve matching. Active Type Curves expand visual curve matching capabilities for variable-rate pumping tests and aquifer systems with leakage, delayed gravity response and double-porosity behavior.

Traditional methods of visual curve matching implemented by other aquifer test analysis software are limited by static type curves and static type curve families. Static curves prepared for a single set of conditions are unable to accomodate more complex conditions arising from boundary effects, variable pumping rates, aquitard storage and double-porosity behavior. Active Type Curves, which automatically adapt to specific test and aquifer conditions, overcome this limitation.

Sensitivity Analysis/Tweaking

AQTESOLV introduces a new tool that lets you tweak individual parameters and fine tune the match of solutions to your data.

Sensitivity Analysis/Tweaking

  • Perform sensitivity analysis for individual aquifer parameters!
  • Perform visual matching by tweaking individual parameters!
  • Enhance estimation by performing visual curve matching on derivative plots!

Type Curve Families

AQTESOLV lets you match any curve from solutions with type curve families. Plus, while matching your data to a specific curve, you can view a family of type curves as a reference for selected solutions.

Type Curve Families

  • Choose from three options for displaying type curve families!
  • Display custom or preset type curve families!
  • Superimpose the Theis solution on type curve families!
  • Interactively change curve families on toolbar!

Recommended Head Ranges
Butler (1998) recommends ranges of normalized head for matching the Bouwer-Rice (1976) and Hvorslev (1951) solutions to slug test data. Superimpose these ranges with AQTESOLV to improve your visual curve matching!

Statistical Analysis

When you perform automatic curve matching, AQTESOLV also provides a statistical analysis of the curve fitting results.

  • Residual statistics and residual plots help you analyze the errors between the observed displacement data and an aquifer test solution.
  • Standard errors allow you to construct approximate confidence intervals for each hydraulic parameter (e.g., T or S) in an aquifer test solution.

Solution Expert
AQTESOLV provides a Solution Expert to help you select appropriate aquifer test solutions. For example, you can use the Solution Expert to display only solutions that apply to partially penetrating wells with wellbore storage.

Recommended Head Ranges
Butler (1998) recommends ranges of normalized head for matching the Bouwer-Rice (1976), Hvorslev (1951) and Dagan (1978) solutions to slug test data. Superimpose these ranges with AQTESOLV to improve your visual curve matching!
