Modeling Color Data in RockWorks

RockWorks uses a specialized modeling method to interpolate a continuous color model from color intervals listed in the borehole database. Color data can be displayed with RockWorks in numerous different formats based on the color model. Import tools allow posting of color intervals based on descriptions (such as Munsell codes), or based on raster images (core photos, etc.).

Color Logs
Display observed color intervals in strip logs (2D and 3D) and log sections.

Interpolated color profiles and cross-sections

Display the continuous color model as a single-panel vertical slice or "profile", or as a multi-panel cross section.

  • Add border coordinate labels
  • Create an automatic section location map
  • Include profile "strip-maps" and collar distances
  • Append 2D logs automatically

Color model sliced as 3D fence panels

Display the continuous color model as 3D slices or fence panels.

  • Create fence panels in regular configurations or draw your own
  • Manipulate the fence in the 3D viewer - turn panels on/off, zoom, rotate
  • Append 3D logs automatically
  • Create an automatic fence panel location map

Color model as a 3D solid

Display the continuous color model as a solid in the 3D window.

  • Filter for specific color ranges
  • View volumes of the different color materials
  • Zoom, rotate model in the 3D viewer
  • Append 3D logs automatically

Color plan-view maps

Create plan-view maps representing a color model slice.

  • Display colors where the model intersects a surface, such as the ground or sub-surface structures
  • Create a color map at a user-specified elevation - a horizontal slice
