Visualizing Leaking Tanks with Multiple Monitoring Wells
This case study describes how to enter lithology materials, stratigraphy units, and downhole quantitative data into RockWorks. It includes draping airphoto images and displaying 3D surface tanks, along with 3D log cylinders. A lithology model is interpolated and visualized as a voxel model, fence diagram, and cross section. A solid model of benzene concentrations is interpolated and displayed with the logs in 2D and 3D. (6 pages)

Modeling NAPLS using Solid and Surface Models in RockWorks
This paper discusses three methods of modeling sub-surface NAPLs using RockWorks: (1) Using surfaces and an initialized solid model in the RockWorks Utilities, with grid filtering and polygon clipping (2) Using surfaces for modeling data entered as stratigraphy into the Borehole Manager, with polygon clipping, and (3) Using a solid model for data entered into the Borehole Manager as lithology. Pros and cons of each are discussed. (10 pages)

Using RockWorks Grid Data in Visual MODFLOW
This paper describes locating and exporting Rockworks grid models (GRD), and importing this elevation data into Visual MODFLOW. (4 pages)

Slope Failure Case Study
This paper describes a hypothetical slope failure analysis performed with RockWorks. Beginning and ending elevations are modeled, and a difference grid is generated and mapped, and volume of displaced material computed. A displacement vector map is combined with the ending elevation contours and draped over the final surface. (7 pages)

Analysis of Cesium-137 Concentrations at the 200 Area of the Hanford Waste Site
| RockWorks was used to visualize radionuclide contamination concentrations at the abandoned nuclear facility at Hanford near Richland, Washington. The Department of Energy Grand Junction website provided an Excel spreadsheet of spectral gamma data that was imported into the Interval data tab of the Borehole Manager in RockWorks. Elevation and location data were available to make a well site map and 3-D surface topography model. 2-D and 3-D visualizations of the well log data were generated to validate the information, and a jpeg image of the 200 area was “floated” over a 3-D image of the contaminant concentrations to show their distribution relative to objects at the surface of the study area.
