PetraSim
Fluid flow, heat transfer & reactive transport - New Version
PetraSim is the graphical interface for the TOUGH2 family of simulators. Developed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, TOUGH2 and its derivatives are recognized for their powerful simulation capabilities for fluid flow and heat transfer in porous and fractured media.
The recent PetraSim update includes:
+ Improved handling of internal boundaries.
+ Cells can now be selected by material (right-click the material).
+ Several cell selection operations have been restricted to select only visible cells. This makes it possible to create more interesting selections by chaining together multiple select/hide commands.
+ It is now possible to show, hide, and filter layers and layer regions.
+ Options to set cell state (e.g. disabled) now appear in the right-click menu when cells are selected.
+ Background images are now saved with the SIM file – making the SIM files more portable.
+ In TOUGH2-MP, requesting "infinite" time steps will now set the maximum time step at 1000000 by using the MP-only MCYCF input parameter.

IgPet Windows
New build of this popular Igneous Petrology Software
IgPet provides tools for teaching and research in Igneous Petrology; it draws most types of petrologic diagrams, including Harker, Fenner, triangular and log plots.
IgPet features:
+ Melt modeling, AFC modeling, hyperbolic mixing, linear regression
+ Harker, Fenner, CMAS, SPIDER, and REE plots
+ Discrimination diagrams for rock types and tectonic settings
+ Publication quality output for transfer to draw programs
+
Simple data format with easy transfer of data to/from Excel
+ CIPW norms and fractionation and magma mixing calculations
This new IgPet update - Windows Version - includes these fixes:
+ Fixed various flaws in histogram, principally concerning Log values. Added logic to allow user to change the suggested % melts for Spider modeling. The file PercentFs.txt holds the strings of melt %s .
+ Found and fixed a serious flaw in the AFC calculations for isotopes in the Spider modeling section.

RockWare GIS Link
RockWorks cross-section generation for ArcGIS
RockWare GIS Link allows you to generate cross-sections, profiles and fence diagrams using ArcMap and RockWorks15. Additional tools include striplogs, contour maps (ground surface and structural elevations), and isopach maps. The RockWare GIS Link installs as a toolbar in ArcView 9.x or 10.x.
RockWare GIS Link Features:
+ Import your RockWorks borehole locations as a layer in an ArcMap geodatabase.
+ Create 2D Profiles and Sections and 3D Fence diagrams using the RockWorks engine and any of the following data types: Lithology, Stratigraphy, Interval Data, Point Data, Time Data, Aquifer Data, and Fracture Data.
+ Create line- or color-filled contour maps of ground surface elevations or formation tops. The resulting map is displayed as a DXF layer in ArcMap .
+ Create isopach maps of individual formations or adjacent stratigraphic layers.
+ Create 2D striplogs for individual borehole locations, with all available data options.

TOUGH Symposium
September 17-19, 2012
A symposium on applications and enhancements to the TOUGH codes for multiphase fluid, heat, and chemical transport will be held at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), September 17–19, 2012. The TOUGH Symposium 2012 consists of oral and poster presentations, with proceedings published online, and includes a welcome reception and banquet dinner featuring an invited talk. Short Courses on select TOUGH codes may be offered immediately preceding and/or following the Symposium. Selected papers will be submitted for inclusion in special issues of major scientific journals.
KEY DATES
+ Early Registration: through August 17, 2012
+ TOUGH Symposium: September 17-19, 2012
+ Training Courses: September 12 - 14 and 20 - 21, 2012
Please visit the TOUGH Symposium web page for more information.
Tips
RockWorks15: Block Model Grade Statistics
Use the RockWorks15 Utilities Volumetrics | Block Model Grade Statistics By Level menu option to read a block model representing grade or concentration values (either a full model or a clipped version such as the result of a floating cone pit extraction) to generate a report of volume, mass, percent, and more, of a specified grade range.

You can see the summaries for each level in the block model, or for user-defined benches.
